Blog: The 12th player can’t wait

June 1, 2009

die-hard-fans
Fans are anxious and can’t wait for Saturday. The Zamfoot Crew popped into the comments section and Eish! …there’s a lot exciting comments being posted by the 12th player.

From Rwanda’s Campos who has been bragging about the Amavubi’s 3-0 thumping of Morocco as well the 2-0 they inflicted on the Chipolopolo Boys @ Independence Stadium to veterans quartet of Big Steve from SA, Chamz, KK11, Sak’s Swazi and many more.

Below are two blogs from Whisper and the unofficial Zamfoot spy in Jozi, Sibs…Eish we can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mbesuma looks like he’s bouncing back, which is a good thing for him and the country. I really hope that he has regained his fitness and form, him and Jacob up front should complement each other well. Jacob is good at stretching the defence and Collins can apply the finishing touches. If not Collins then I think Given should come into the match, he is a deadly finisher too.

The mid should be anchored by Francis ‘Mr Reliable’ Kasonde with Jonas (controversal I know) on the right. Jonas really impressed me at Chan he has fantastic skill, pace and we need to start blooding him for future assignments.

Kalaba on the left and Feligol operating infront of Francis. I’m afraid that Chris would be on the bench this time round because he never really showed anything in Cairo and throughout the season in Germany. Both Chris and Fwayo are players that would be good impact players to bring on if the game is 0-0 with 30 mins to go.

Sibs sees Goals in his man

I wanted to watch the boys train at Milpark stadium but aparently the were training somewhere further from the Hotel. Milpark stadium is being used by South Africa as the prepare for the Confedaration Cup. I then went to the Hotel where i found Mr.Pandor in the lobby who was friendly to me. He had to ask me a few questions just to make sure i’m Zedian & not a “spy”. Which i thought was good this what we need from our Team Manager who i always held in high respect. I asked him for directions to the other stadium he told me the boys would arriving back soon.

He told me the boys are taking it a bit easy this week, they are not risking injuries to the players. Though they have been working for 3 hours in the morning 3 in the afternoon especially last week.

zambia

I finally met the players when the came back from their morning session just before 12 o’clock. I had a chat with Noel Chivuta and Joseph. I also had hand shakes with J.Chamanga,Stophira, Mr.”Reliable” F.Kasonde and my main man Collins. I should say Collins looks trim compared to the way he was the last time we played Togo at Chillies.

I should say the guys look confident. I saw Feligo,Chris,Kennedy and the other players together with the Coaching Staff. Though i never spoke to them.

I saw “some goals” in Collins not just one. Thats all i can say.

The defence is the one area where I haven’t had much trouble selecting (unlike the other depts that have given me a real headache). D. Banda and HH in the centre, Nyambe at right-back and Emma Mbola at left.

K Mweene is the only choice in goal at the moment.

Chamz :I have the faith in HR to select a winning team. I disagree with the line up-for sure Chris Katongo will play.

I also disagree with the omission of Captain fantastic. Definitely he has not reached the dizzy heights that he reached at Newlands to send us to AFCON and earn a promotion in rank. However, I still think he is a natural leader and the guys draw inspiration from him.

I dont see Chris failing to make the starting line-up and probably Kalaba will be used in central midfield and Felix on the left wing.
Mbesuma might start because Renard has already indicated that he good at pulling the crowd behind the team in home matches. Anyway at the end of the day its all up to HR. Maybe will might even see Mbesuma being the captain for the team if chris does not start……lol

    F.Kasonde
    C.Katongo
    R.Kalaba

    Subs that will come on:

    F.Tembo
    M.Lungu(probably in Mid field)
    J.Mulenga/G.Singuluma(Depending on who starts)

Dont be suprised if Given starts over Jacob, just because he has spent sometime in trainig the past couple of weeks partnering Collins. If these two can click we would have the deadliest strike force on the continent.

  12. Cho on Mon, 1st Jun 2009 8:09 PM

guys dont cheat yourselves.just because jacob mulenga is going to play in Holland it doesnt mean he is better than given. I say in a home game like this play given and mbesuma. Jacob Mulenga has a very poor goal scoring record mbesuma and given are much better than him. they have proven themselves to be top goal scores. Lets not be fooled by Mulenga’s signature by Utrecht. Given and Mbesuma are much beter strikers period.

chama boy, will save us again.

  14. Whisper on Mon, 1st Jun 2009 9:14 PM

Guys, glad to see that my omission of Chris has stimulated some debate. The reason that I benched Chris is purely because he hasn’t done well in Germany and in Cairo he was a passenger for most of the match.

We have all realised that ‘Cunning Fox’ is a master dribbler when it comes to lineups. So maybe the guy won’t even start with Collins. Maybe we might see Jacob or Given playing upfront with Chris in ‘the hole’ behind them. We know that this is Chris’ preferred position and Jacob does well upfront by himself. Either way I think there are exciting options to be considered.

Onto Jonas. The guy is good and I really believe he might be able to do a job on the right for us. He hasn’t been Europeanised so is still willing to take on defenders with skill and get passed them. This was the major reason why I didn’t select Chris for the right wing. The guy doesn’t run at defenders anymore and for a winger that really limits their effectiveness. This is one of the reasons that I think that Felix hasn’t done well in France, I believe that they think he is greedy and holds onto the ball too much. For me though that is a game changer!

Finally, I wonder if the injuries to Chisenga and Kampamba will throw Chivuta or Sunzu a lifeline. This is my (distorted) logic. Chisenga is out so Nyambe moves to Right back with Mr. Reliable stepping in at centre back. That leaves a hole in the middle with Chivuta or Sunzu stepping in. I think that Chivuta is more likely because it seems HR likes him, but with The Fox you never know. Oh my goodness, I’ve forgotten all about Misheck. Wow, so many possibilities!

  15. Matafwali on Mon, 1st Jun 2009 9:21 PM

I like your reasoning behind your opinions. I’d go with your lineup as well.

Interesting lineups here. Cant wait for saturday when we will sort out the Rwandese. My lineup can be 1. Mweene 2. Musonda 3. Mbola 4.Nyambe 5.Hichani 6.Kasonde 7.Chris 8.Kalaba 9.Mbesuma 10.Jacob 11.Felix Ive gone for Musonda ku right bcoz we need to attack and defend in this game.Given Singuluma can come on Mbesuma and either Fwayo,Saku and Chamanga can be pushed on the flanks with Chris joining the attack.I expect this to be an attack.Chipolopolo all the way

  19. Whisper on Mon, 1st Jun 2009 11:35 PM

Guys are we seriously saying that we would have Joseph Musonda in the team? The guy is a liability and while he offers a bit going forward he is a penalty giving machine! I would much rather we have Nyambe at right back and bring Dennis Banda into the centre of defence. Even in Cairo we were lucky to escape a penatly decision due to Joseph.

  20. Alex on Mon, 1st Jun 2009 11:41 PM

Mine goes like 1.mweene 2.musonda 3.mbola 4.nyambe 5. Banda 6.kasonde 7.kalaba 8.tsunami 9.mbesuma 10. Given 11.fwayo. Feligo, jacob and saku can come on as impact players to inflict more goals on rwanda because things look like our group will be decided on goal aggregate. Zam 5 rwa 1. Given brace, mbesuma 1 tsunami 1 mbola 1. Those are will be the goal scorers. Weelee.

Chivuta definitely(he doesn’t need a lifeline Whisper) – where he will play i just don’t know though. Chris on the wing as usual, Collins of course. HH is interesting, maybe he will start… Rwanda favored the cross/long ball against Algeria, but they may change up… Other than that it is the usual suspects.

  22. Anonymous on Tue, 2nd Jun 2009 12:44 AM

Spoiled for choice? HR must be having a selection headache. A prayer for him, to make the best combination from this good crop of players we have-hoping for absolute professionalism among the players. To defend from the front and everywhere else; how Jocob Mulenga does that defending from the front! That causes the defenders to panick and give away possession. Then Chris katongo and Kalaba should be lurking-push it up to Mbesuma-involve Felix katongo, to Jacob Mulenga one-on-one open fire…. When Rwanda becomes tired and lost introduce Saku and some clinical finishing in Singuluma we could do lots of damage.

God has prevailed and only the better talent and effort will carry the day!
I hope for a 4-0 victory or better.
I believe We will play at the 2010 world cup!

GOOD…A MORROCCO VS RWANDA -march report for u Mr SHI CHAMAR

Kigali — Rwanda’s Amavubi Stars continued their impressive form by defeating Morocco 3-1 in group eight of the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers played yesterday at Nyamirambo stadium.

Rwanda’s Amavubi Stars took the lead on the 14th minute when Said Abedi Makasi headed home a Patrick Mafisango free kick from the right flank to set the stadium alight whose crowd included His Excellency President Paul Kagame.

Labama Bokota Kamana extended the lead on 68th minute before Youssef Nasri scored from the free kick to give the Atlas Lions some hope of an equalizer on the 72nd minute.

However Amavubi’s captain Olivier Karekezi sealed Morocco’s fate with a 94th minute strike putting the game beyond the visitors’ reach.

The game which was expected to end in Morocco’s favour according to the many prophets of doom saw Tucak Blanko’s team displaying sleek football thus dominating and securing maximum points to take over from Morocco as group eight leaders with nine points.

Amavubi Stars would have won the game by a bigger margin if the strikers had taken all the chances that where put to them.

Karekezi was the main culprit when he failed to slot home two clear cut chances that came his way in the first half. Though the visitors played their usual flowing game, the Wasps were determined to bag maximum points from the African giants with some impressive performance.

Jean-Claude Ndoli in goal for Rwanda denied Morocco a goal when he saved Abdessalam Benjelloun’s repeat penalty which initially had gone into the net on the 32nd minute.

Aloua Gaseruka brought down Youssef Nasri in the penalty area, a feat which the Cameroonian referee never hesitated to award a penalty for the visitors.

However, the visitors’ grabbed second half consolation from Nasri’s well taken free kick which left Ndoli stationed. Meanwhile, Rwanda’s Eric Gasana and Morocco’s Souffiane Alloudi were red carded for intended tackles.

Gasana hit out at Alloudi as the latter had stretched with an open boot forcing the centre referee Divine Evehe to send the duo off. A victory for Rwanda took them to the top of group eight standings with nine points from three fixtures played so far.

Morocco settles for second position with six points while Ethiopia comes third with three points after winning away in Mauritania 1-0 on Friday.

Mauritania remains at the foot of the group’s standings with no point.

Rwanda continues her hunt for a 2010 World/Africa Cup spot with a return leg away to Morocco in Casablanca next Sunday

    Another MATCH report -PREVIOUS campaign…

KIGALI, June 5 (Reuters) – Striker Obafemi Martins scrambled a late equaliser to save Nigeria from a shock World Cup qualifying defeat in Rwanda on Sunday.

Martins beat the offside trap to slot home a goal on the breakaway with just 11 minutes left, earning Nigeria a 1-1 draw in the African zone World Cup Group Four qualifier.

Rwanda looked on course for an upset when Jimmy Gatete put them ahead eight minutes into the second half, finishing superbly at the end of mazy run through the Nigerian defence.

Gatete had nearly opened the scoring just two minutes earlier when he sneaked in behind defender Obinna Nwaneri but lost control of the ball with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Nigeria, playing without captain Austin Okocha and striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni who failed to turn up for the match, looked lethargic and were hampered by the difficult pitch conditions.

Captain Nwankwo Kanu was taken off just after the hour mark and Martins rarely received any service.

Nigeria defender Joseph Yobo had an effort cleared off the line by Rwanda in the 72nd minute before Inter Milan’s Martins grabbed the equaliser

  31. Chamz on Tue, 2nd Jun 2009 10:15 AM

Chipolopolo 1 I agree. Campos, Rwanda is full of Nigerians, Congolese and other neutralised Rwandese, Chipolopolo is 100% pure Zambian blood.

  32. Shi Chamar on Tue, 2nd Jun 2009 10:28 AM

Thanks Mr Campos for shedding a bit more light on our opponents…
It is clear that the game on Saturday will not be a walk over for our Chipolopolo boys…That was a very good goal by your man, but I am sure the fox has done his homework and we shall carry the day. Lets Go boys!! Chipolopolo……Iyeeee……My Predictions…Zambia 2: Rwanda 0..

  33. Chamz on Tue, 2nd Jun 2009 10:30 AM

Zambia will win but it won’t be a cricket scoreline unless Rwanda concedes and early goal.

    Group summary
Rwanda started the campaign as underdogs but caused one of the biggest upsets in Nations Cup history when they qualified at Ghana’s expense. Most observers, though, will always point out the fact that the Black Stars self-destructed and lost that vital game in Kigali.

Uganda could not have got off to a more promising start but the Cranes failed to build on that 1-0 win over Ghana. They employed three different coaches during their campaign.

Campos, thanks for your contributions my friend. However, come Saturday the Bullets will be handing out free shusha lessons in Chillies.

Like Chipolopolo 1 said, we used to have a Tanzanian on here before the game at CHAN talking about the Taifa Meteors, then after the match he was like dust in the wind.

During CAN we had a Sudanese chap making bold predictions about his team and what they would do to us. Again our boys sorted them out via 2-bar and he vanished.

    Will you be the same?

Uganda is in for a different ball game. Besides our coach is confident which is a good sign. Mulisa, who plays for Beveren in Belgium’s second division, is the first professional player to join camp with others expected to arrive later this week.

Other professionals expected include; Saddou Boubakary (Libya), Hamad Ndikumana (AC Omonio), Henri Munyaneza (Germinal Beerschot) and skipper Olivier Karekezi (Ham Kam).

Meanwhile, Amavubi head coach Branko Tucak yesterday morning engaged select sides (A&B) to a competitive game at Amahoro stadium as he continues to test the players before picking his final 18-man team for the international friendly with Malawi on May 31.

Tucak also has something to smile about after learning that Labama Bokota Kamana has been declared fit for the Zambia tie.

The striker missed the first qualifier against Algeria with a hip injury but according to Amavubi’s team doctor Musa Hakizimana, the APR player is fit to play again.

Bokota, 25 has been sidelined over the last eight weeks due to the injury but the striker showed that he can quickly get back in shape after hitting a brace for Amavubi Select side A yesterday.

The game ended in a 2-all draw after an own goal and another from Jean Baptista Mugiraneza leveled terms.

Rwanda depart for Malawi on May 28 for their friendly game before connecting to Lusaka on June 3 for the qualifier to be played three days later. After drawing their first game against Algeria, Rwanda need a good result in Zambia to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Zambia will also be hoping for the same after their 1-all draw away to Egypt. Egypt plays Algeria on June 7 in the other Group C tie.

I have jus seen the goal by the same GATETE and it’s far from sending any chills in my spine coz clearly that was jus poor marking by the Nigerian defence as evidenced from that clip no defender was willing to commit himself to the sriker. Come on Zambia,we managed to contain the likes of Amr Zaki, Mido, Barakat etc, then who is Gatete? Even if they say that each game is different, i believe we laid our foundation on the Cairo game & HR must have done his home work to ensure that there isn’t room for complacency & over confidence. Come saturday, it will be wina alila wina… baka kandwa ichinene. GO ZAMBIA GO!!!

Never mind about the govt, this is Zambian Football blog & not a platform to discuss how poor/good our govt spends taxpayers money. Football of playing names is long gone, Nigeria may have those big names but that doesn’t save them if they organise themselves well. I believe we a defence that is well organised even without big names, it’s not a joke to come back from from with a one all scoereline. my brother, let’s wait for saturday & hop u ll still be blogging as campos come monday
