Chipolopolo Boys skipper Chris Katongo and Rainford Kalaba are expected to join camp from Germany and Portugal today (Wednesday) while the rest of the remaining European contingent are scheduled to fly direct to Ndola from their respective bases next week.

While Katongo’s teammate at relegated Germany side Arminia Bielefeld and South Africa goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez joined Bafana Bafana camp on Monday night from Germany, the 26 year old Zambian skipper is believed to have communicated to national team manager Solly Pandor on Wednesday although earlier reports indicated that he promised to join 24 hours earlier.

Portugal based midfielder Kalaba who has been inspiring form for Gil Vicente fc has also indicated to join today.

Swedish based Isaac Chansa, Maccabi Tev Aviv’s Emmanuel Mayuka Emmaneul Mbola of FC Pyunik in Armenia, France based duo of Jacob Mulenga and Stophira Sunzu are the other professionals yet to report for camp and the quintuple are expected to fly to Ndola immediately after turning out for their respective clubs over the weekend.

Chinese based striker James Chamanga is also still believed to be the plans of Herve Renard.

Zambia will take on Rwanda in 10 days time at Chililabombwe’s Konkola Stadium in a FIFA 2010 World Cup match.

it’s very hurting that when players like south african captain Aaron mokoena are joining new good clubs like portsmouth, our very own captain will be playing in bundesliga 2 because he was not committed enough to keep his team in bundesliga 1. i beg to disagree with those who are saying that chris did not have enough time to settle at armenia bielefeld. in football when you are good then you are good, there is nothing like settling down. it only took a few games for arsenal’s arshavin to get in the groove and put in better performances for arsenal. for chris, it’s all the best in the lower division and i hope you will get over your average performances for your german team.

Patty i understand. it hurts but i don’t believe that people should be negative all the way,
firstly its stranger that’finished’ Aaron Mokoena is sgined by portsmouth, maybe he’s just lucky or he’s has a good manager or agent with good connections. Its sad and unfortunately for chris but these things happen in soccer look at micheal owen and Duff.
I think zambian players need good managers and agents who have connections, siyabonga nkosi(rowen and chris’ teammate) moved from arminia bielefeld to isreal at the right time…its alll about good conections sometimes

Patty you make it sound like staying in the Bundesliga hinged on Katongo’s display. Last time i checked there were at least 22 other players on that team with as much complicity(if you want to call it that)as Chris. Fact is only he can comment on weather he had a good or bad 1st season and explain y. Please refrain from being too judgemental and instead focus on being constructive and positive in ur opinions, fact is you do not know the full that transpired at the club.

I don’t think its possible for any team in the English premiere league to sign a Zambian player at the moment. With our poor ratings, once our national teams starts to tick then the flood gates will be opened.

I disagree with patty here. you cannot blame one player for the woes of the team. Even if u had Messi on your side if the rest of the team is poor you cannot expect him alone to steer the team to victory. Its all about team work. Come next season Chris will be playing in the top flight either in Germany or another european country. All the best Tsunami!

Even Ronaldo was not the great player he is when he first got to Manu. For some the adjustment is quick for others it takes time we cant all be the same. Playing in Bundasliga 2 is not as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. Fine it is a step down and I am not sure if this has financial implications on Chris’ contract but it is a very good and competitive league. I think Chris should stick it through cause by mid season he will have started getting a grip on the league and then top divion teams will have a look at him. Even at Cosmos he took a bit of time he did not hit the road running but he eventually turned out to be the best thing that hapened to Cosmos in a very long time. Its sad that our captan is going through this but if he holds his head high this will only make him stronger.

While I agree with you, I am of the view that Chris should have done some research before moving to that club. That club had already a player from Brøndby IF (Jonas Kamper) who had joined them earlier and had at one time gone down with the team. Looking at the teams in Germany I would not recommend the following teams to any Zambian talented player who wants to reach greater hights:

    Bielefeld (demoted)
    Bochum
    Borrusia M. Gladbach
    Maiza 05 (Newly promoted)
    Duisburg
    Nümberg (play offs)
    Frankfurt
    Frieburg (Newly promoted)
    Karlsruhe (demoted)

Ever since I came to Europe it has always been teams from this group that have always been going up and down. Playing for these teams would make you into an average player regardless how good you are. On top of that they do not release palyers easily. I remember a Germany International who went down to the second div. cause the club refused to release him. Offers came in but the player was never informed. Clubs that wanted him were just told that the player had made a decision to help the club win promotion back. He went down and lost his place in the Germant team as the club spent sometime in Div 2. The dude is still at this club today wondering what happened

Steve it won’t have finacial implications if they come up immediately but should they stay in div. 2 longer than one year then there will be problems

Just a small detail Chris is not growing young so….

  10. Amuna Onzuna on Thu, 28th May 2009 12:55 PM

If chance comes along,Chris should just move to another club within Europe.

Katongo should consider going to France. I dont think he can fail like his young brother.

i do not agree with Patty when he says “our very own captain will be playing in bundesliga 2 because he was not committed enough to keep his team in bundesliga 1.” Since when did football become a one man sport? i know it hurts to see our man go down but it is a bit too harsh to say he was not committed enough. soon the man will be shining and we shall be the first ones to sing praises for him. its not the end of the world for him.he just has to remaibn focussed and forge ahead.

    @patty kasonde
What makes you think Chris is the one who should have kept Bielefeld in the Bundasliga 1? Are saying people like Oba Martins or Michael Owen should have kept Newcastle in the E.P.L? Man football is team game not just one individaul even if you brought L.Messi to Bielefeld he would not have saved them alone. One person can only do much.

Dude next time you make a comment, rather think over it than embarass yourself.

We always have funny guys on this blog ahead of crucial games. We have guys from Sudan/ Algeria now, Egypt, Tanzania etc. Amd most of them don’t have logic reasoning. Algerian, I hope you will still be blogging after June 20.

  20. FCM on Mon, 1st Jun 2009 12:55 PM

Egyptians accept your status, dont compare your Egyptian way of football, we have proved to you on different levels that we are not what you think we are. you have failed to sweep over us, come at the africa cup u managed to beat all African Teams but with our chipolopolo Boys you failed and we kept you on your toes.

You can have all the big names in Africa and the world at large, yet as Zambia we have our Confidence and unity and thats enought to even keep the African Champions “EGYPT” on their toes for 90 minutes right in their back Yard.

Lets GO BOYS for us its CHIPOLOPOLO all the way
