Chipolopolo Boys skipper Christopher ‘Tsunami’ Katongo’s Arminia Bielefeld got demoted from the Bundesliga and the mufulira born striker scored three goals in his first season.
Tsunami is likely to join ‘forgotten son’ Andrew Sinkala in the second tier next season whose one year contract at FC Augsburg is coming to an end. In the newly formed Liga 3 or third tier controversial defender Moses ‘Big Mo’ had an indifferent season for VFR Aalen.
Below is short outlook for the three players in Uwe Kittel’s own words:
Andrew Sinkala will be offered a new contract in Augsburg, if he agrees with the conditions, he’ll plays next year again in the Bundesliga 2. I think this is the level he can still play, overall hes there above average.
Moses Sichone signed last year a contract until 2010, but I dont know if the contract is valid for the fourth tier (most likely it isnt). If his contract is cancelled, I dont think we will see him again in a professional league in Germany. His performances werent that good and he had also some problems with injuries. It would be again very difficult for him, to find a new club..
Well for Katongo, he wants to leave but there are two problems: 1.) Arminia paid a lot of money for him, so he could only leave if someone is willing to pay an amount close to the one Arminia paid and thats the second problem: his performances werent that good, that there will be many interested clubs. If he had to stay at Bielefeld, he will most likely play for promotion next year. Its nothing new in Bielefeld to get relegated, so they know how to handle the situation.
And in Finland, RoPS’ Zambian contingent led Zeddy Saileti are under the limelight after the club’s poor start to the 2009 top flight season.
While injury plagued striker Nchimunya Mweetwa continues his rehabilitation from his latest injury, RoPS’ 8 Zambian born forms the back of the team. On loan Young Arrows midfielder Whiteson Simwanza, ex-Afrisports duo of Godfrey Chibanga and Christopher Musonda joined Chanda Mwaba, Chileshe Chibwe and Stephen Kunda this season.
Below is an article written by Juha Salminen from Nordic Football news after RoPS lost 2-0 to VPS over the weekend.
It’s not April Fools’ Day, and I’m not kidding for any other reason either. Tony Björk found the net on the 12th minute and Antonio Inutile doubled the lead 11 minutes later. The two goals were enough to leave RoPS all alone in the relegation spot, and anger the fans. A thread demanding the resignation of CEO Jouko Kiistala was soon opened on Finland’s biggest football message board, and the fans might have a point. If thing’s do not change, RoPS could face their third relegation from Veikkausliiga this decade.
Kiistala’s Zambia-Rovaniemi Express is second only to the Berlin Airlift, and you don’t really need 8 Zambians, a Nigerian, a Brazilian and a Korean to achieve relegation. RoPS’ own youngsters could do the same and more with the help of some more experienced Finns. Sorry for anyone who lost their car, house, wife and kids in betting because I said the game will end goalless.

Is it true that Chris was played out of position? Thats what I saw on Kickoff.
BRAGA WANTS KALABA BACK FOR NEXT SEASON
that could be good for kalaba, thats what we want!let him go back and play eufa
Kalaba might command a starting position or at least a spot on the bench for Braga. I commend the way the young man handled playing in the portugese lower league. In time i truly believe he will turn out to be one of the great Zambian players.
Felix must learm from Kalaba.

Fifa is demanding that Malawi football authorities improve safety at their national stadium for World Cup qualifying matches.

In a separate ruling released on Tuesday, Kenya was ordered to switch its next World Cup home match from its preferred stadium after failing to meet safety standards required by the global governing body.
Fifa stepped up action against the two African countries after 19 fans died and more than 130 were injured in a crush at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan before Ivory Coast played Malawi in March.
Malawi must limit the crowd to 25 000 inside the 50 000-capacity Kamuzu Stadium in the capital Blantyre when it plays Burkina Faso on June 6.
Fifa has ordered standing areas in the stadium to be closed and a perimeter fence, guarded by police, to be installed at least 300 meters from the entry gates.
Fatal crushes have occurred at African grounds when too many people without tickets have been allowed inside the stadiums.
Kenya failed to meet a Fifa deadline to complete safety work at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi because it did not have the money.
It will now host Mozambique on June 20 at the 60 000-capacity Moi International Sports Center on the outskirts of the capital city.
The world governing body acted after finding “serious shortages” in Kenya’s security plans at the Nyayo stadium when it hosted Tunisia in March.
Fifa has also sought to improve fans’ safety by last month giving referees and match officials increased power to delay kickoffs “unless security is established outside the stadia and spectators have taken their seats.”
An inquiry into what caused the Abidjan tragedy has been extended after Fifa said it needed more time to interview city and football authorities in the Ivory Coast.
Five African nations will advance to the 2010 World Cup finals being played in South Africa from a qualifying tournament which is completed in November.
The hosts qualify as the sixth African nation automatically
Zambia is safe, FIFA does not mention Zambia so ba Algeria just come.
I watched Chris many times and I do not know whether he was played out of position. He was played on the right wing, not very convincing though. He was played as a striker but did not score many goals; he was played behind the striker where I think he was good. What I observed was that he was very quick in releasing the ball whenever it was passed to him. It appeared as though he was afraid to make mistakes. He just did not have the same confidence like he had in when he played in SA and when he arrived at Brøndby. That time he could take on defenders but I do not what went wrong. Just my opinion from what I saw
katongo good by budesligua, but the algerian players are welcome such us
antar(bochum),matmour(bourussia monchen…) and chadli (mainz05).
Bochum, Borussia Monchen Gladbach, Mainz will be strugglers like Bielefeld. What of the 2 Algerian players who have been axed in England??lol
poor chamz you think, but you dream like your french trainer, we are sure in our country you didn’t achieve south africa world cup, perhaps africa cup at angola before rwanda.i think you have only this chance.
our good players such nadir belhadj at portsmouth(angland) et bouaza with birningham(angland)
Algerian I like your confidence. Your coach cried, I am sorry he is not fit for football. Football is for real men. When was the last time Algeria played at the Africa Cup later on World Cup? 1990? Zambia compared to Algeria has been a more consistent team at Africa cup. I wonder how Algeria was rated to qualify at the expense of Zambia. What criteria are you using? Recent performance or Italia 90? The Algerians you are talking about in Europe are mostly those who have failed to make for France and opt to play for Algeria as an after thought. We don’t have a big population of Zambians in Europe so we rely on home grown talent.
Egpty has better players than Algeria but the failed to win in Cairo. Zambia will beat Algeria home and away.
@Chamz
You are very right most of the National team players playing Algeria who are based in Europe is just as you put it, born in France played for France at junior level but could see they would not make it at senior level thus turning to Algeria. Zinedine Zidane is Algerian but opted to play for France cause he was good enough. All second rates have to play for Algeria and what have, depending on the originality of their Grand Grand Parents
@Justice Kafusha
I agree whole-heartedly with you Justice. Chris just didn’t tick at Bielefeld. The guy was always passing the ball, even when in a good position to take the defender on. All while he didn’t recieve passes from his strike partner too often and was made to look like a poor player.
This is something that our players need to learn. When you are playing for a team that is fighting relegation then it is time to start showcasing yourself and the team becomes a bit secondary. The fact is that our players need to showcase their skills to protect their livihoods.
when you want something you fight for it so dearly, this is the problem we have with zambian players. they are not prepared to go a mile further. if i were katongo i would have fought with all my life to stay in the top league, bundesliga. but it seems our players are more prepared with playing in the lower divisions. look at other players from other african countries, they are able to raise their game when things are hard. at some point people were saying drogba was finished but that just gave him an added incentive to raise his game.
the best time for chris katongo to showcase his talent was when his team was faced with relegation battles. but what did you see from him? despite being given to play 90 minutes he only put in average performances. there was this time i watched his team play schalke and from that point on i came to believe that he and his team were not bundesliga material, i mean they just don’t have the drive.
i think our players attitude should change otherwise they will continue playing in the ramshacles of european football.zambian players you irritate me a lot because you fail to put in your best when times demand so
Lets not be very harsh on Chris. Professionally, i think he is one of the players that put in their all. Fine he might have only scored 3 goals in the season, but that was his first season in germany. Even when he went to Denmmark, he didnt exactly hit the ground running, it took a bit of time for him to settle. Chris’s best position is just behind the top man. He thrives in that position. He has however shown a positive attitude by wanting to move. I hope that works out but i still be;leive he will do better in his second season there. As for Andrew, I have now thrown in the towel as professional advice says that he is only good for that level and moreover was only above average. I think its now time for us to start arranging testimonial matches and say thank you for your service to such players.
Boyd Mwila’s team is up 1-0 at the half courtesy of a Boyd Mwila goal.
Misheck Lungu and Honved are tied up 0-0 Vs Gyori E
Boyd and his team were victor’s, thanks to his strike!
KK11 and Justice, thanks for the updates.
Boyd has always been a fantastic player and I am really pleased that he has made the move to Djurgardens. He was too good for Ois and I think he had become a bit stale there. He’s started off his Djurgardens career really well and I wish him all the best. I don’t think he should be called for the qualifiers because he needs to settle at his new club, but perhaps he should be looked at in the preparation games for Angola 2010 and SA 2010 when we get there!!!!
Brondy by fc was the rite move for chris to use as a steping stone to much bigger teams in europe.spending anther season in denmark wud have helped alot with the fact that brondy by is a big club in denmark.we all saw wat he acheived wen he was in denmark and becoz of his gud forms he even attracted teams like pourtsmouth.armenia has been struggling 4 a long time, its in and out of the top league which is not gud 4 our captain. Its sad that its gonna be diffcot 4 him to leave armenia becoz of his standing contract with them.i just wish him gud luck.
Not good for Chris. Its good Boyd is find the net.
Well I stand by what I said before, Chris should not have moved from Denmark so early. He always takes time to shine but the good thing is that he eventually shines. You would have seen him mid second season in the Bundasliga being one of the strikers on everybodys lips but unfortunately his team has got the chop before this could happen. Second tier is not bad at all. Surprised at the way some people are making it out to be some sort of hell. If no big offers come up, take the chop with dignity and it being the second season I think Chris will rise to the occassion and be the star we all know him to be. He was not the Chris we knew, a change of tactics saw him a litte lost. He could not blend his personal style with the German game. its a huge ask but with time he was going to do it. The English game is highly technical with very little room for individual brilliance but Ronaldo in his second season managed to figure out how to blend his style with the EPL style and guess what? he turned out to be the best in the world. With time (game time)Chris will take the German league by storm. I think one season was not enough just like I think had he stayed at Brondby by now EPL, Spanish amd Italian teams would be looking for his signature. Just keep working hard especially now that the qualifiers offer you a platform to show that you are truly one of the best.
Does any one have any updates on how the training session is going for the boys, it’s been a while now, and how far is FAZ with the arrangements for a friendly.
Collins Mbesuma will know by Friday whether Mamelodi Sundowns will keep him for next season. His contract with ‘The Brazilians’ expires at the end of June.
The Zambian international striker signed a one-year contract with Sundowns at the beginning of the 2008/09 season, with an option, at Sundowns’ discretion, to renew it for two years.
Ntofontofo’s agent, Francesco Ferreri of ProSport International, says Sundowns have informed him that Mbesuma’s future will be decided by the end of this week.
“I had a meeting with them yesterday and they told me that they will come back to me on Friday to tell me whether they are going to exercise the option or not, meaning to keep him or let him go.
“They have until May 31 to exercise the option and I believe it will be in their interest to keep the player as I believe he is still has a lot to offer,” he tells KickOff.com.
Mbesuma scored five goals in 11 starts for Sundowns the past season.
I think Singuluma, Collins, Felix, Sunzu should come home and feature as guest players if things are not working out. In this way, they will stay fit, I am sure with the World Cup and Afcon other teams will get them. What they need now is fitness, dedication and displine.
Chamz though I understand your point this thing of guest player is actually illegal as long as the players present club does not loan him to a Zambian club during the break. Some players have featured as guest players for Zambian clubs without even informing the clubs they are contracted to. Problems can arise when a player sustains serious injuries. Who is going to pay for treatement, a Zambian club. It is important that when one intends to play as a guest player, they sort this oone with the clubs that own them before enganging themselves
My other point is that guest players do deprive the opportunities of our local young players who are on the verge of progressing by confining them to the bench, and at the sametime it creates confusion within clubs
In my opinion the guest player thing should not be encouraged at all, as football has regulation
Cheers
Johnstone Bwalya is in Switzerland coaching small boys, just like M’siska is doing the same in Belgium, coaching the youth, as well as Charles
I agree so much that you will remember i had a problem when Dominic played for LD in the BP tournament, that just kills team spirit
Singuluma, Collins, Felix, Sunzu should just fight on, unless they get get off loaded by their clubs which will be adifferent case.
i understand now
I thought Singuluma had signed a deal with TP Mazembe?
Moses sichone should consider coming home to revive his career. Because his career in germany is noise diving
