Red Arrows resurgence was yesterday put to a stop by Elite Lusaka Dynamos who held them to 1-1 draw in a rescheduled Week two KCM/FAZ League match before a sizeable partisan crowd at Nkoloma Stadium that included former Mamelodi Sundowns star Sashi Chalwe who watched from the stands. Arrows had won three matches on the bounce and looked to inflict defeat on a Dynamos side bereft of the talents of Josephat Nkhoma and internationals Hichani Himoode and William Njobvu on loan at Zesco United. Check out the league table
CHAN Bronze medalist Makundika Sakala silenced the home side when he benefitted from former Malaysia based Kamuzati Kabwe poor clearance before lobbying Dan Munyao in the 15th minute. This was the gangly striker who is reported to be interesting Zanaco’s third goal in as many matches. Nkoloma was stunned and the silence engulfing the Chelstone area was defeaning.
The crowd was further infuriatedby the theatrics of Dynamos Keeper Isaac Chilanga. The net minder who once played for Arrows sister club Young Arrows resorted to comics to buy time as early as the half hour mark.
Lusaka Dynamos strangely clad in Liverpool yellow stripe bossed things in the midfield where former Chipolopolo midfielder Lameck Njobvu and teenager Brian Mulenga shorn through to put Lawrence Pondani and Richard Phiri of the Under 20 class of 2007 in the shade.
The enterprising Mulenga, an Edusport product, on 40 minutes released fellow teenager Stanely Nshimbi who played a glorious through ball to the lively Sakala who fumbled and fell on the ball when the former Makumbi Stars sighted goal.
Arrows forays into the Lusaka Dynamos were restricted by the impenetrable Thomas Mulendema. The Dynamos skipper was rock solid and thwarted tame efforts from Simon Lupiya and Timothy Mbewe late on in the firat half.
The break breathed a new sense of urgency in Arrows with substitute Danny Sibande who replaced Pondani on the hour pulling the strings in midfield over shadowing the bright spark Mulenga. But the first real chance fell to Dynamos. Makundika was put through by Augustine Musambazi but he fluffed his chance when open on goal much to the relief of Arrows technical bench of Matthews Mbewe and Harrison Tembo who had their hearts in the mouth.
The inspired substitution of Chan bronze winner Stanely Banda and Jimmy Ndhlovu on 64 minutes paid dividends when the latter latched on to a Chiwanki Lyainga cross to restore parity on 66 minutes with virtually his first touch of the ball. The goal was greeted with delirium by the Nkoloma faithful and urged the team to get a clincher to no avail. Banda and Ndhlovu had replaced Judge Mkandawire and Simon Lupiya respectively.
The Dynamos bench of Wesley Mondo, Lucas Siame and owner Hanif Adams sensing danger introduced former Malysia export Philemon Chipeta to change the tide. Though the former Zambia forward was full of running, he rarely had a sniff of goal as he constantly drew into midfield to collect the ball while his strike partner Sakala was put in the pocket by the impressive Danny Siyuni.
The Arrows much talked about exciting quintet of Simon Lupiya, Chiwanki Lyainga, Timothy Mbewe, Stanely Banda and Judge Mkandawire did not get any chance to play together at any one time owing to the substitutions but were dealt with ably individually by a resolute Dynamos defence marshalled around Mulendema, Boyd Chipeta young brother to Philemon, Chabusha Malumani and Sydney Ntekwe.
At the final whistle, the Nkoloma Stadium fans were biting their lips at a lost opportunity for maximum points but in fairness the draw was a true reflection of a rather drab match.
The teams: Lusaka Dynamos: Isaac Chilanga, Boyd Chipeta, Chabusha Malumani, Sydney Ntekwe, Thomas Mulendema-Skipper, Lameck Njobvu, Nelson Zulu, Brian Mulenga, Augustine Musambazi, Makundika Sakala and Stanely Nshimbi.

Metal pa metal this issue is serious can’t Hanif even organise some cheap Chinese jerseys or something. Better than using one with a “You Never Walk Alone” logo.

True, I saw that on Superspot TV live game with Young Arrows, I could not believe my eyes. Imagine wearing that jersey with the whole world watching.
