April 29, 2009

CHAN 2009 star and on loan Zesco United midfielder William Njobvu has been ‘omitted’ from a 25 man squad list released by FAZ on Wednesday. Angola based Elijah Tana is also another high profile name to have been left out of the squad which is set to regroup next month in South Africa ahead of the FIFA 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Algeria at Chililabombwe’s Konkola Stadium on June 6 and June 21 respectively.

French-born trainer Herve Renard has recalled ‘Big three’ trio of Collins Mbesuma, James Chamanga and Isaac Chansa for the crunch encounters. Renard has maintained 17 players except for Njobvu who travelled to Egypt last month.

Defenders: Emmanuel Mbola, Nyambe Mulenga,  Joseph Musonda, Misheck Lungu, Davies Nkausu, Hichani Himoonde, Dennis Banda, Chintu Kampamba,

Midfielders:Stoppila Sunzu,  Jonas Sakuwaha, Rainford Kalaba, Fwayo Tembo, Isaac Chansa, Francis Kasonde,  Felix Katongo, Noah Chivuta,

Strikers: Jacob Mulenga,  Emmanuel Mayuka, Christopher Katongo, Given Singuluma, James Chamanga,  Collins Mbesuma

Good team, I have given up on Clifford.

  2. spaks on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:02 PM

You know what , i have now resigned to accepting what ever HR decides amano kuli driver, he is mixing the old and the new

  3. Amuna ngau ngau on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:09 PM

FAZ needs to arrang friendly games with teams like Tunisa or Nigeria so that HR can have a proper assesment of the players, it is not enough just to assemble the players in South Africa, and as for Collins Mbesuma, i still think he is unfit.

  4. Waka Special on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:09 PM

Yes the team is balanced i only wish the lads all the best as they prepare for the BIG ONE,I feel it will be nice to collect all the six points at home in the month of june.

  5. James Zulu on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:17 PM

Chamz :Good team, I have given up on Clifford.

Am with you, my friend. Now its just to accept what HR decides.FAZ, u have the money, organise top class friendlies, we need to beat Rwanda and Algeria without a doubt..

  6. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:35 PM

With the shrewd Henry Michel, Algeria will be tough. The guy even looks like Hiddink.

  7. Kolokombwa on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:40 PM

Good team but i still insist that we need to be grooming a natural defensive midfielder. I suspect that thats what he is trying to do by including Sunzu all the time. He is the only natural for that position though he hasnt reached the heights of his world cup under 20 performance. Hachipuka seems to be out, hence the usual issue ( am not bringing it back for debate ) of Andrew Sinkala as the stop gap, while we groom a younger one.

Chamz, if i am not mistaken, you must be based in South Africa, besides that spectacular equalising goal against AS Vita of congo, has Mbesuma regained his form ? The team however looks sharp !

  8. Step Aside on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:42 PM

Man… HR has really come to know and understand the crop of available players we have. The combination of the his call up just explains it. It is a well balanced team for the two up coming games.

Now its up to ba FAZ to arrange for some serious friendly match(s) before June 6 and also after June 6 but before June 21.

    SA 2010 here we come!!!

  9. Amuna ngau ngau on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:52 PM

FAZ has been given the money for preparations, please dont fail us this time around since we have enough resources at our disposal.

  10. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:00 PM

Kolokobmwa, I am in Namibia. I think Big Steve is in SA. The other reasons who inviting many players is to late them fight for places. I can assure so that this time Izo will work hard. Good for the team. Sunzu is also being groomed for the future. I also Yaya Toure last night, the boy is big. I hope that is where Sunzu is going. As for Kebby let him play in Cosafa, CeCefa.

  11. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:01 PM

Sorry, I meant to say other reasons for inviting many players is to let them fight for places

  12. Seen from afar on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:22 PM

Yes Zamfoot, it’s raises eyebrows, but any reason why he is left out. I can’t think why HR would leave him out the squad considering how dependable he’s proved.

  13. Benard Makufi-Sweden on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:26 PM

The team loks good to the eye. Lets support our boys and the coach.

  14. Seen from afar on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:32 PM

I say “dependable” but actually “instrumental” is a better description. Am sure there are reasons though, tuff task for HR to pick players, lot’s of good players omitted.

  15. Lupo on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:35 PM

    Well done Renard!!!!!!

That ‘s a good selection, william will get his chance next time, of course there’s a better reason for his ommition which is known by the coach as for Tana we all know that he’s been left out on disciplinary grounds. The inclusion of Chamanga, Chansa and Mbesuma is also a good idea, they just need to prove themselves.

  16. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:41 PM

HR told us that in Cairo, he wanted players who can defend. William was unused sub meaning, if a player was injured who playing with ten men, he would have been thrown into the game. Against Rwanda and Algeria, we need to win-attack hence-Chamanga, Mbesuma. Besides Kasonde proved himself in Cairo, so did Fwayo and Felix.

  17. Georgia Russia on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:43 PM

the team looks good to me.whoever has been dropped needs to prove that they worthy playing for zambia.cliford has a bad displinary record off and on the pitch however hes a good player who can still win his place back

  18. Amuna Onzuna on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:44 PM

A good mixture of player selection, but let HR give chance in ‘just one game’ for Sinkala and Clifford. After we watch them,we the soccer fan will judge whether he is right or wrong.

  19. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:55 PM

I was waiting for someone to mention Sinkala. They guy seems to have a fan club.

  20. Kolokombwa on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:57 PM

Amuna Onzuna :A good mixture of player selection, but let HR give chance in ‘just one game’ for Sinkala and Clifford. After we watch them,we the soccer fan will judge whether he is right or wrong.

Amuna, the stakes in the world cup qualifiers are very high, no room for experimenting – what if they cost us a game. I think what you meant was that they should be invited to camp and assessed, not just throwing them into a game for the puropse of satisfying soccer fans.,

  21. SONG on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 5:02 PM

I do not mind which players are featured as long as we collect six points this coming june.

  22. saks swazi on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 5:08 PM

Good team.let the coach select the players.let’s do the supporting.

  23. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 5:10 PM

I like HR’s tactics. No need to carry William in team in a home fixture where you need to score. Let Chamanga, Jacob, Mbesuma all start. We will take William away to Algeria and Rwanda.

  24. Jiggyboy on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 5:20 PM

Renard mostly wants to convince his critics that what he is doing(selection) is right. so we hope that he continues to do so.

  25. Gametime12 on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 6:37 PM

Good team, Mbesuma might be unfit but his still scoring we could use him in the last minutes. Even when he was not getting game time in his previous clubs he still scored a couple of goals whenever he played. He should have dropped Mischek Lungu, He should use defense but he has to replace Lungu with somebody else, we don’t want silly mistakes in the back. I’m happy he included Chamanga in the team, now I can see us making it to 2010 WC.

  26. Alex on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 6:45 PM

4-3-3 formation weelee june 6. Rwanda and Algeria mundoti.

  27. Matafwali on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 7:01 PM

The SA camp is supposed be around the time the Confederation Cup will be taking place right? I think HR hinted that he might want to go up against some of the teams. I hope FAZ can pull that off as it will be a good test for the team.

  28. Anonymous on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 7:36 PM

SINKALA PLEASE …..WHY NOT EVEN A CHANCE….JUST TO ASSESS . LETS PROTEST

  32. Gesh on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 1:44 AM

Gud team coach,we need the 6 points come june….All thoz questioning HR’s selection & calling for the inclusion of so-so;surely you cant be serious!!!! Does it make sense to make a host of changes to a ‘winning’ side (i know we didnt win in Egypt),we need some consistency pilizi!!!! And besides,I think we need to move forward & not backwards in terms of players for our team, the coach cant please every1;some players-LIKE SINKALA,just have tobe sacrificed…Go Chipolopolo!!!!
    P.S-HR,pliz napapata..WHACK Algeria,athawise nkachula kuno..lol
We’l be waiting to welcome the boys for the return fixture ku Algeria…

  33. Muta on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 3:57 AM

HR is making a mistake with what the way he is selecting his players. This might affect the confidence of certain players. This game they are in the team the next droped and the following not called. He really needs to be more consistent with his selection to boost confidence in the players. These are the two important games in our fixture as they will determine our road to SA 2010.

  34. tn on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 5:10 AM

The fact that Zambia came third at CHAN, and drew Egypt, did badly at Cecafa….Means this coach must continue to reinvent the wheel..he needs to be looking tor something special,,,the current team is doing good without a doubt, but we need to continue to finding players that will deliver….I am not saying we should do it Nigeria style by inviting 40 players to camp, or inviting players with a half, quarter or a tenth of Zambian blood just because they are in Europe….but i think we are missing something special if close the doors and stop monitoring all players…What this means is that FAZ with Renard having the final say must arrange high profile friendlies…with in form african teams first..

  35. Muta on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 6:05 AM

^ This is why Nigeria is straggling at the moment. And this will affect the performance of the national team if we are very careful. Coming third at CHAN does not mean that Zambia is a better footballing nation and draw against Egypt does not grant as significant advantage of qualifying to SA 2010. Our under 20 national side drew 3-3 against the young Pharaohs in Cairo and lost 1-0 in Zambia. I don’t think HR has done anything special so far. he hasn’t won anything for Zambia. let us not be carried away with the draw in Egypt. Porto drew man utd 2-2 in manchester but lost 1-0 in Porto where they had a good record against English teams. Lets fight for three point as success is determined on trophies and not places. “if you are not first you are last”. Is Zambia going to beat Egypt in Chililabombwe? Kaya

  36. Uncle Bobs on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 8:21 AM

Experimenting? Yes we don’t need to for example by calling players like Sinkala and assessing them-time is up for trials, assessments, now is the time for strategic fit and positioning in the HR business model. The more you cry for some of these guys the more my man HR will prove to you that the guys aren’t indespensable like we would like to make him appear.

I repeat, playing for Zambia is now a privelege and not a right. Do you think Mbesuma will be big-headed when he reports to camp. Nope bwana, as he knows that this is his last hope in hell. However if and not when HR calls the guys he has left, i will be the first to respect his opinion. Meantime, Kasonde does the holding midfielder job as Sunzu is being groomed (needs to work on agility/speed/sense of urgency and in my opinion tends to overdo in trying to impress the crowd and ends up fluffing albeit with a good one two touch)

  37. Big Steve from SA on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 8:40 AM

Interesting selection of players, well the coach will never make all of us happy with any selection he makes so lets just rally on behind his choice and keep our fingers crossed for six points come june 2009.

Seems the coach is dead set on not calling Sinks well his the boss!! On Mbesuma I think we are playing a name, I mean really we are just playing a name. I am not to sure how the coach makes the decision around Nkausu. Maybe he speaks to Gavin Hunt and gets info we dont know.

But like I said, its the coaches decision his the boss, his been doing well of late so lets rally behind the man, his obviously got a strategy and these are the players that fit into that strategy. Go Zambia!!!!

  38. Uncle Bobs on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 9:02 AM

Ba Muta, yes i agree with you that we should not get carried away and think we are through. But there’s no harm is being elated with achieving the erstwhile impossible feat the boys did in Egypt. Believe you me, when you consider the current crop of players we have (including the so called professionals that keep declining by their own standards moving from bigger to smaller leagues in the same country, we seem to be in the right direction and hence the need not to be carried away like you say.

Three points is what we are fighting for and better so now when we have stopped playing names as demanded (not requested) for by fans previously.Your advice we will heed to and take a cautious approach. Viva HR and transparency.

  39. vincent Numbwa on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 9:03 AM

Im very happy for the first time , there are no serious critcs for HR’s team selection. This is the way to go, we need to support which aver player is called to our National Team this is the only way we will motivate players and the coach.

Sinkala’s talk is retrogressive let us learn to move on.

  40. Big Steve from SA on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 9:09 AM

Chamz :Kolokobmwa, I am in Namibia. I think Big Steve is in SA. The other reasons who inviting many players is to late them fight for places. I can assure so that this time Izo will work hard. I think as much as want history to repeat itself, Mbesuma has done his time as one of the best. We thought that maybe with the old man Dimitru at the helm, the formula to bring out the best in Mbesuma would be found but alas, even the old man is playing him second to the other strikers. He has scored 5 goals but then again of late he is coming off the bench. Gordon Erickson might be coming to Downs so lets hope they buy sensibly in June and hopefully they will buy midfielders that compliment Mbesumas attack style. Should they get more strikers it will be a problem for him. The striker they bought from free state stars is on the verge of getting more game time than him.

  41. Uncle Bobs on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 9:16 AM

    Viva brother Sweet V!!!!!!!!!

  42. Step Aside on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 9:30 AM

Only 18 players shall be in the final team and I feel from the 25 call ups, considering the aim for the maximum 6 points, the combination by HR is good. This just explains that HR (just as we all wish) is aiming for outright wins – and not just mere wins but wins with a GOOD GOAL DIFFERENCE.

Lets give Coach HR a 110% support as we shall be the 12th player on June 6 and 21.

  43. Chamz on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 9:53 AM

The whole thing of 25 players is to let them fight for places. Which is a good idea. I think the dropping of Tana, and Chansa last time and not using Chintu and Musonda has brought displine to the team. Let them fight for places.

  44. mwachilenga felix on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 11:18 AM

Mbesuma is ok is just like dj Drogba when he faces the goal.go zambia go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2010 here we come.

  45. vincent Numbwa on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 12:17 PM

Felix Mwachilenga good to know you are soccer fan now.Former Santos, Mbesuma just like whoo!!!!!

  46. gb on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 1:13 PM

More of these players will face the chop.

  47. Gametime12 on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 1:26 PM

Big Steve obviously there’s a reason why Mbesuma and Chamanga were called, you think Jacob Mulenga or Christopher Katongo are going to score the goals that we need to win the home games? I don’t think it matters whether Mbesuma weighs a ton or not, as long as he can score. You know Jacob Mulenga is going to miss a couple of goals before he scores. We need somebody who has an eye for the goal, and Mbesuma seems to be that person.

Muta I think it’s okay for the fans to be optimistic, it does not mean that We have already qualified. I’m sure that’s not the case with HR, who is fully aware that Egypt are still the favorites in our group. What matters is how well Zambia will prepare for the return league, not the examples that you have given us. Besides if you decide to predict the outcome of the return game that way, then you might us well give us the other side of the story. i.e; how many times teams come out victors at home after having a favorable result away.

Mbesuma is suitable for this game because we are at home and this means we will be visiting the D-zone more frequently and mbesuma can give us 1 or 2 goals from there. Chamanga also comes in at the right time as he will be out running the Rwandans on the right wing calving in good crosses for wasteful Jacob mulenga and Mbesuma. The fact that jacob is wasteful, Singuluma should start this game to utilise every chance that comes if he is back from Israel.
    HR is technically good.

  51. tn on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 4:35 PM

give singuluma the chance, even bring chibambo..lol even give Kabamba the passport so he can play…Surely these two games are the difference of Zambia going to the world cup or just going to angola

  52. mwachilenga felix on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 5:01 PM

Hai Vincent i have been looking for you where are you? i said Mbesuma can do well in the sence that his scoring tactics are just like the african chelsea player so called DJ Drogba,Mbesuma never dissapoints us once he faces the goe.I strongly believe HR knows what is doing and we are definately getting the 6 points.

  53. Sibs on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 8:48 PM

Good mix of players. I believe Mbesuma has been callled just like the other 24 players to be assesed by the Coach. If he not fit the Coach will surely drop him lets look at Isaac we were all shocked when he was dropped the same can happen to Mbesuma if he does not impress the Coach. I’m surprised by people who saying HR is playing names.

When it comes to fitness HR and his French assistant are fitness gurus.

  54. Anonymous on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 9:27 PM

cant compare Mbseuma to Drogba ….or else Mbesuma would be playing in the EPL …..Drogba like Essien are super professional and very good

So in your head Mbesuma will walk right into the team, he has to compete with Given and as at now HR rates Given higher than both James and the finished Mbesuma

  56. Anonymous on Fri, 1st May 2009 8:55 AM

The only problem with HR’s team is that of Felix Katongo and Sunzu, Noah Chivuta and Nkausu not playing at there clubs. These guys must really seriuosly look at their careers that may go to waste in the long run. Imagine the 2 x Felix in France, do not even feature for the reserves. In the long run this will not be healthy for Zambian soccer and the guys themselves

  57. mwachilenga felix on Sat, 2nd May 2009 9:38 AM

  58. david mbewe on Sat, 2nd May 2009 9:52 AM

personally selection is good but i felt kennedy mudenda should have been included for blending with other players.his roberst moves should have been assessed.he is a good player needs encouragement.zambians need a sharp razor to slice any defence pillars for goals inorder to proceed to world cup games 2010 in sa.its not too late to include him.

  59. Yashani iyo on Sat, 2nd May 2009 11:08 AM

  61. jc on Mon, 4th May 2009 6:41 PM

Colleagues, the sinkala/Sichone era is over. Whom do you want Renard to drop or bench to accommodate sinkala?.

I am however, not sure about Chamanga. I feel Singuluma is a proven goal poacher. Chamanga is agonisingly wasteful and slow. Playing in China is the best for him, but not the rejuvenated Chipolopolo. In these crucial qualifiers, we cannot afford wasteful players, like Chamanga.

  62. Smm-soJ on Mon, 4th May 2009 9:23 PM

Go Zambia Go, any of our players can score and thats football … the called should our focus … those left out will have there chance most probably … Go Zambia, time to set great and high records …

  63. kayula on Mon, 4th May 2009 9:56 PM

good selection renard, mind you its only 18 players needed for obviously they have to fight for a place its not automatic that when you are called as professional then you are in NO! NO! wonderful coach
