Kachepa on the Ball

April 29, 2009

Zambia’s Premier Soccer Gossip & Rumour mill column. It’s simply…………………………..Kachepa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

renards-car

RB gives Chicken a Toyota Hilux

Zambian-born and National team assistant coach George ‘Chiken’ Lwandamina has finally been given an incentive-a Toyota Hilux double cab (not in the picture) by the Republican President H.E Rupiah Banda, it has been reported in the local media.

This was after a public out cry after the Green Buffaloes mentor was omitted by the First Minerals Quantum ‘donation’ which only saw the two French expatriates; Herve Renard and Patrice Beamulle handed similar cars last week.

Mbesuma poised to return to Chipolopolo set up

South African based striker Collins Mbesuma is poised to be recalled by national team trainer Herve Renard for the forth coming FIFA 2010 World Cup double header qualifiers againt Rwanda and Algeria on June 6 and June 21respectively.

Other names linked to be recalled are James Chamanga, Isaac Chansa and Edwin Phiri who  plays for Swedish second tier side Ljungskille.

Nigerian player having trials at Zesco United

An unknown Nigerian player is attending trials at Zambian Champions Zesco United. According to info reaching the Zamfoot crew, the player has been Ndola for two weeks now.

Already Zega has another foreigner on their books. Liberian striker Ben Martins’ contract will expire in December 2009.

James Chamanga v Billy Mwanza

This Sunday Zambia’s export to China will come head to head in a Super league match. Striker James Chamanga’s 8th placed Dalian Shide will host Billy Mwanza’s Changsha Chinde who are placed 12th.

Chamanga who has played scored a goal so far in the first six matches played is poised to start on the right flank while Mwanza will have to pass a late fitness test after he sustained a knock over the weekend and was eventually substituted as precaution.

Both players have played six games.

Golden Arrows planning to extend Kola’s loan

South African PSL side Golden Arrows are planning to extend Rodger Kola’s loan to next season. Kola who was bought by Swedish side Helsingborgs IF from Edusport was only on a six month loan but Arrows coach is believed to have been impressed by the 19 year old.

Stophira Sunzu set to return home?

France based midfielder Stophira Sunzu whose one year loan contract at struggling Ligue 2 Berrichonne Chateauroux is expiring at the end of the season is set to return home.

The Afrisports and 2007 World Youth Cup star has a torrid time in France together with Chipolopolo star Felix Katongo who is also on loan at Jacob Mulenga’s Chateauroux.

felix-stophira

The duo have been out of favour by the new club coach and been ordered to train on their own.

And while Sunzu is set to join either Zesco United or Zanaco also on loan when he returns in June, the more accomplished Katongo has been linked with possible moves to Egyptian giants, either Al Ahly or Zamalek after an eye catching display in Cairo when the Chipolopolo boys held the Pharaohs to a 1-1 draw.

HR pondering on calling Congolese born hitman

French-born national team trainer Herve Renard is pondering on calling Congolese born and Zanaco striker Patrick Kabamba to the national team.

HR has watched the ‘Obafemi Martins’ clone type of striker twice this season and is believed to have been impressed by the technic and workrate  of the former Kalampa sensation.

Kabamba is currently a joint top scorer with six goals in the league and has scored in the last four consecutive matches including a hatrick against the Thomas ‘Mordo’ Mulendemena led Lusaka Dynamos defence.

The left footed diminutive striker announced his credentials on the local scene in the 2007 season when he led 11 time league Champions Nkana to promotion after notching 15 goals.

Rooney as he is called at Sunset Stadium will ditch his Congolese passport to follow the footsteps of now TP Mazembe winger Mathews ‘Papa’ Kamwashi who featured for Zambia and Zanaco in the late 90s.

Nyambe Mulenga is NOT Eston Mulenga’s son

nyambe

International defender Nyambe Henry Mulenga is not the son of the legendary and late Chipolopolo defence kingpin Eston ‘Yellowman’ Mulenga.

The man who has been described as ‘The Machine’ by Herve Renard confirmed that to Lusaka based Radio Qfm in an interview.

“No… Eston Mulenga is not my father, it’s only that people at Forest Rangers (his parent club as he is on loan at Zesco Utd) compared me to him and they said that we have a similar playing style,” He said.

Last year, the upcoming defence centre back who was in company of Israel based midfielder Justine Zulu told in the Zamfoot crew that Eston Mulenga was his father.

‘Dream Team’ members will be barking Gunners for victory

In tonight’s all English Champions League semi final between Manchester United and Arsenal, the gunners will be cheered by Herve Renard, William Njobvu, Nyambe Mulenga, Jonas Sakuwaha and Given ‘Freedom’ Singuluma.

chan-2009

The quartet together with their boss HR are self confessed Arsenal fans. Meanwhile, Freedom is in the country. The Zamfoot Crew spotted the player at Manda Hill on Sunday.

Good motivation indeed. Football is enjoyed by many people in this country and hence the need to motivate players and coaches expecially our own Zambians for they will always be with us. RB I commend you for having a bid heart for game.

Felix won’t make it in Egpty, culture, religion, Egpty being a muslim country is not a country for play boys. Junior Agogo of Ghana failed to adapt. Why move from Rennes to Egpty? South Africa is far much better. In view of what happened to shom shom, why go to Egpty?

Why do people on this blog think that SA has such a strong league? The fact is that it sucks!! There is no way that the strength of the South African league can come close to Egypt. When was the last time a team from SA won the African Champion’s League? It beggars belief that so many people think that the SA league is on par with those in Isreal, Sweden, Ligue 2… SA teams might have money, but the level of football isn’t that much higher than in the KCM.

  9. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 11:50 AM

Playing in SA has more exposure to agents. Because of supersport TV, the coaches and the fans, follow the progress of a player. The culture is even close to Zambia. I repeat, Felix won’t make in Egpty. He is better off playing for Orlando Pirates of even Zesco United. Arabs want you to convert to Islam before, they even give you a chance.

ZAMFOOT U’RE BIASED TOWARDS MAN UNITED

I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS MY OBSERVETION, IT SEEMS THE ZAMFOOT CREW IS MADE UP OF MAN U SUPPORTERS.

I AM A GREAT FOLLOWER OF YOUR GOOD SITE WHICH PROVIDES THE BEST NEWS AT THE RIGHT BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT YOU ALWAYS WANT TO SQUIZE IN MAN UNITED NEWS INTO THE ZAMBIAN NEWS WHICH SHOWS SOME KIND OF CONNECTION BETWEEN YOUR CREW AND THE PREMIERSHIP GIANTS, ITS GOOD INITIATIVE TO CONNECT WHAT IS IN LINE WITH ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL BUT TRY ALSO TO CONNECT OTHER TEAMS AROUND THE WORLD PEOPLE WILL SAY YOU ARE NOT BIASED.

Chams u’re right and I agree with you,

Felix wouldn’t make it in Egypt at all cost, if Egyptian teams have actually shown interest, we’ll definately be there to advise him as a friend that Egypt is not a conducive place for him.

Mulslim countries would be a very difficult place for a person like him to adapt due to his life style.

South Africa is also not also a better place for him, because our KCM Premier League here is even more competive than the south african league.

    Good Comment Chamz

  13. Whisper on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 12:50 PM

Chamz and Lupo, don’t be biased toward Muslim countries. Zambians have a rich history of playing in Muslim countries. The most relevant at the moment is Fwayo in Tunisia, but even before him we had Malitoli in Tunisia, Tana in Sudan and Saudi Arabia, Masautso Tembo in Saudi Arabia, Chipeta, Kombe, Chilfuya (and more) in Malaysia.

Chamz, who was the last SA player to go from the PSL to a good European league? Let’s see how all that exposure has helped?

Just because one player decided to convert to Islam and shun his country and family doesn’t mean that all players will. Don’t be shallow minded.

  14. Kolokombwa on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 1:03 PM

So we want to give a Zambian passport to Kabamba – interesting. We failed to that for John Lomani when he was at his best, playing alongside Francis Kombe. But is kabamba worth the trouble. I have seen him play for Zanaco. Good on the ball, knows ichipanda, but lacks in height. Do we really need him when we have the Mbesumas, Singulumas, Jacob Mulenga and Rogers Kola coming up ?

As for George’ new Hilux, i think he equally deserves it, but who has finaced that one – is it still First Quantum ?

Meanwhile, i am of the opinion that Felix is good enough to play for any team in Europe. Coming back to Africa is not progress whatsoever. The plan should be to find him even second division team soewhere there.

  15. Magic on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 1:24 PM

Way to go, if a local guy is part of the team delivering the goods I see no reason why he should not be incentivised.

  16. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 1:50 PM

Whisper-players who have moved from SA league in recent years to Europe: Chris Katongo, Benjani, Collins Mbesuma, a guy at Ajax Amasterdem from Ajax Cape Town-he is from Cameroun, he moved last year. A guy from Uganda to Scotland-he moved last year. A guy from Malawi to Sweden-Mafalirwa, sorry I cant tell their names but I am sure bloggers can confirm. It is only Zambian players who seem content with SA. Others use it as a springboard to Europe. The players you mentioned who played in moslem countries, which ones of them ever progressed further? Felix won’t make it in Egpty.

  17. LUPO on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 2:02 PM

    Whisper,

Let us not run away from the truth, the players you have mentioned are of a different characters and their life styles are different and that’s why they managed there. It takes someone who is strong spiritually to adapt in a muslim world.

    (i) You mind the way you dress there
(ii) you minf the way you associate with other people especially ladies
(iii)you change your habits to suit the environment
(iv) you choose what you eat
    (v) worshiping is a very tricky part where almost everyone must take part

Some will manage with the above things but some won’t.

I’ve lived in a muslim country before (DAKAR, SENEGAL, evething is diffenrent and strange for non muslims there. I’ve also been together with fwayo, kombe and felix as friends for a long time now and am still in touch with them, I know better what each one of them is capable of achieviing.

players may be affected psychologically due to environment change in a muslim world, this may also affect their performance.

Anyway that’s your opinion i’ll respect it.

KCM is of the same strength as the PSL, now that is probably the biggest joke I have heard in months. You can not in your right mind honestly say it is better to play for Zesco United than to play for Pirates!!! Ha!!
Not that I am a big fan of the PSL or look down on the ZPL but lets be practical and honest with ourselves.
    1. The PSL has some of the best coaches on the continent. the biggest chance of a ZPL player having the opportunity to work with high profile coaches like Rudi Krool is in the PSL.
    2. For the two minutes Mbesuma was one of Africas greatest, it was the PSL that groomed him into greatness.
    3. As good as Gatusso and Tsunami are, without having played in the PSL they would be in some smaller league like Isreal or something.

Lets be real people, the soccer itself not that great, I mean since Mbesuma no striker in this league has shown any promise of being a 20 goal a season striker but then again it is PSL strikers that are striking European deals in droves.

I think Jet-li can make it in Egypt.

Yaba, you have really made me laugh, first of all welcome to this great blog, and secondly allow me to defend Zamfoot on your allegations, as you rightly put it we discuss zambian soccer here, so that man u talk is never aired here, of course the chiparamba boys are with SAF becoz they went there and not gunners or Chelsea, kalu took a foto with CR because they were at the same place, not because zamfoot is man u by the way that foto was from the post are the biased towards man u as well? your comments are way off tangent

  22. Whisper on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 2:59 PM

Guys, Katongo can definately make it in Egypt. I don’t think he should go there because he is a cut above, but this thing of saying that players should just come back to PSL is nonsense. When there were reports that Gattuso was considering a return people said that it would be good, now with Felix it’s the same story. Like someone else said, I would rather Felix plays for another European team (even in a percieved lower league) than come back to the PSL.

  23. James Zulu on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:04 PM

Don’t you think if Felix went to Egypt and converted to islam he would concentrate on his football more thereby benefiting his career and Zambia national soccer team? I for one support him to move there, maybe them muslims can pump some discpline in him.
As for Chicken George, kudos to RB for getting FQM to folk out another $50,000 for the hilux. He totally deserves it.

  24. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:43 PM

I must confess after what happened to Shom Shom, I would not advice players to go there. Even junior Agogo is struggling at Zamalek. I think Felix is better off on the bench at Rennes than in Egpty. The guy must also be patient. Even Drogba used to sit on the bench in France. Adebayor too. The guy claims to be 24, why is he so desparate? Besides, he plays for Chipolopolo, so why is he worried? Aaron Mokoena warms the bench at Blackburn but captains Bafana. Felix must just continue to train, I know he wants to play but with displine, his chance will come.

  25. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:47 PM

I think Tunisia is a more moderate muslim country. I hope Fwayo ends up in France.

  26. vincent Numbwa on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:52 PM

South African League may not be as good as SAFA make it look but it is definately better than our league. Notwithstanding the fact that there if freedom of worship some religions have very little torelance and elements of ” who ever is not of your faith is an enermy” it is difficulty for a christian to play for a club based in an Islamic nation especially Arabs. Islamic elements are fused the club every player is expected to observe the ISslamic faith in conduct, dress, food, worship and general social aspects of life. Egypty may not be the best place for Felix to go to unless he has no option of playing at any other second division club in Europe.

  27. Seen from afar on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 3:54 PM

I don’t support any EPL team, but i can quite clearly say Man U is much better than Arsenal, and you don’t need to be a genius to figure that out. Arsenal has never had the strength to push through and hold on and win tournaments. Why that is, tactically maybe they stretch themselves to much, you can debate. It’s an interesting game tonight and we will see if there is anything Arsenal can do.

  28. NAMBANZA on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:09 PM

Are you very sure that Felix can be converted islam or you are just assuming if that happens?

  30. Seen from afar on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:16 PM

Nambanza, why does it matter, this is about football, Champions Lague is the highest level, English clubs are the best in the world right now, we are watching the best to learn. It’s doesn’t really matter who each of us adopt as our team, we all support Zambia at the end of the day.

  31. vincent Numbwa on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:52 PM

    @Seen from afar

Man U is not better than Arsernal Please. You have to watch Asernal play to appreciate them, being better is not about silverware only you have to look at many other aspects of the game. I usually enjoy watching games from home but today I will watch from a public place (CAS in Chingola) so that I sea the emotions bragish Man U fans as we wallop them tonight and put shup them up for good, we have already beaten them in them this year.

  32. Amuna Onzuna on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 4:57 PM

Good Work RB for ensuring that ‘Chicken’ also gets motivated. If anything,he is the most important player on the bench coz,he translates to players whatever HR says in broken English.Kudos to RB & Team.

  33. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 5:06 PM

Most of my friends in church are Man United fans. I am Arsenal. Man United has more experienced players and have a big squad to choose from unlike Arsenal. Arsenal has also faced a lot of injuries this season. We saw what happened when Rio and Vidic were injured, Man U struggled. Man U has big match tempreture players such as Rooney, Ronaldo, Babatov, Tavez etc unlike Arsenal. Although I am Arsenal, the team is not predictable, I think Man U has an edge from a natural perspective.

  34. vincent Numbwa on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 5:19 PM

    @Chamz
Just say u are Man u, you cant have that negative perception if you were a Gunner not especially after Asernal has beaten man u at their weakest point this year.

  35. Chamz on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 5:24 PM

I am Arsenel. But I am just a realistic guy. Arsenel because of lack of experience are an extreme team-one day beat Man U but lose to teams like Hull City. I am hoping they win.

  36. Nyama soya on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 7:29 PM

Let jet-li go to Egypt so that he even learns how 2 win the Africa Cup

  37. Matafwali on Wed, 29th Apr 2009 8:30 PM

Arsenal can beat Man Utd on any given day. Right now it is clear though that Man Utd are the better team, although that does not guarantee them victory tonight.

Well am glad RB saw sense and gave Lwandamina a vehicle. Like I said, if his conditions of service are different from the expatriates, then spell them out. Granted it is assumed expatriates are qualified if not exposed and as such we go out on a limb and pay them more than our locals, but we have to show appreciation for our own as well.

On Felix Katongo, I am at a loss for words. I don’t understand why the coach would ask them to train on their own. He may have no intentions of picking them in the team, but come on!!! I hope he finds a team fast in the transfer window.

  38. Muta on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 3:44 AM

felix is not 24 years old he is the same age as Chamanga. There is no Zambian national soccer team player who is below 24 years old. I have the proof and very soon I will address this issue to FIFA. Felix is only good for african soccer, even in Egypt he is going to struggle. Let him come back to ZPL or rot in SPL. If Zambian players are to make it big in Europe let them start acting their age rather than reducing them by 6 to 7 years young.

  39. tn on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 5:32 AM

try Kabamba, but why not give a chance to Signs Chibambo when even the Nigerians say he is good…He is gaining experience playing in a west african league and playing most importantly for a team in the Champions league…another player Danny Hangunyu,,,did not this dude play for zambia teams u-20, u-23 and his team is doing well in the Champions league with Primeiro Agosto. this why i think a Zambian A, B or a strong U-23 team will go a long way in making competition for places stiff. We will have the London Olympics…start building a formidable team now…that will vi in also for 2014…If Zambia works hard, put in the planning they can be at both 2010 South africa and 2014 in Brazil…this is why Cameroon has a good reputation..no one time wonders like Senegal who are done in because of lack of foresight..there was no youth development in Senegal, the league was stopped and was in shambles only because they were relying or basking in the glory of 2002.

  40. Muta on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 6:12 AM

Zambians just talk the talk with no results. they are like the Liverpool supporters who say every year is their years for the premiership. Zambians think that we shall qualify to the World cup or rather win the Africa cup but hey keep dreaming. Next year is our year and we shall qualify to SA 2010.

Their is no Zambian player in the under 20 and senior teams who is below 24 years old. Whatever age they claim add 6. Chamanga once claimed he was 20 in 2003. I hate Zambian football because it’s fool of cheats and fickle administrators.

  42. vincent Numbwa on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 8:43 AM

For once just put the age story aside especially for our seniour team becouse there is not age limit. You said you hate Zambian football I forgive your for that and understand that you said that becouse of your emotions, I ancourage you sober up may be then, you can make meaningfull contributions.

  43. Step Aside on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 9:47 AM

Im also not for the idea of Felix playing in Egypt. I feel what happened to one of my friends (years back) when he was playing in a muslim country (in Asia) might happen to him too. He was being asked to convert to Islam but he refused and in the end did not receive game time. He and a Congolese he was with would them be isolated in training and even socially after training/matches. He only stayed for a year and had to return after a short spell in the SPL.

I think the Muslim first would want the player to join their faith before joining the “playing” team. So Felix, be careful my man and make sure if you go, don’t get you faith compromised. Shom Shom (MHSRIP) is another example.

  44. tn on Thu, 30th Apr 2009 11:12 PM

Al Ahly play every year in the World Club competition…it is for this reason, and the fact that they have now established themselves as a modern African club( they may just be different from Zamalek) because they understand the modern management of the game….I see them really being the face of club football in Africa. They get a lot of publicity, they have been invited to a summer tournament which is essentially preseason for Barca, Liverpool and some other big teams in Europe, Asia and latin America. If Felix is given a chance to go there that would be better than playing with Sunzu on the sideline, and not even training with the main team. Tunisia might be a little different from Egypt because i hear it more relaxed and liberal in Tunisia, but on the same note maybe Felix needs that austere environment with little distraction. he could use that to really showcase his talent.
