Algeria Skipper Karim Ziani Surprised By Zambia

April 2nd, 2009
The Olympique Marseille midfielder has explained that he was somewhat taken aback by the Zambian national team’s level of play.

Algerian national team captain Karim Ziani has told Le Buteur that was not expecting Zambia to put in such an impressive performance against continental champions Egypt in Cairo. The Copper Bullets from the south of Africa managed to tie the Pharaohs 1-1 in a match where they had their fair share of chances.

“I watched the match with my family and I can assure you that from what I’ve seen in the encounter both Zambia and Egypt are solid. I was very surprised by Zambia’s level. They are really tough. We will have to be very strong if we want to beat them,” said the playmaker.

Ziani, who is still recovering from adductor surgery and expected to be out for approximately one more month, was missed in his team’s goalless draw in the Desert Foxes first group match against Rwanda in Kigali on Saturday but has already promised that he would do all that he can to be ready to take on Egypt in Blida on June 7th when the two teams face off in a what promises to be a high octane match up.

“Right now we have lots of solutions. It is imperative that we win against Egypt in Blida on the 7th of June. After that we will try to get a good result against Zambia. We all saw on our own that Zambia will not be so simple as some people wanted us to believe. I repeat, they will be tough competition,” he concluded.

Zamfoot are inline. Don’t be biased to the point were we are just ticlking our ears. Report as broadly as you can and let us make up our own minds, thanks Zamfoot. Keep it up. Guys, don’t be scared of mind games. They are part and parcel of the modern game. Now this Algerian guy, hmmmm. Very useless chap. I dont even know why he is surprised. He is in for a bigger shock when we meet Algeria. We will give them two shocks(powered by ZESCO,no power cuts)-home and away.

This guy should go and talk to Mido, who wants to impress the world by telling them that they underrated Zambia. How do you underate a team that you have drawn with at a neutral venue, and when it comes into your own backyard, you fail to beat it and resort to WWF of WWE tactics?
Zambia should capitalise on the rivalry between Egypt and Algeria, because personally I see these teams playing to (goalless) draws in Cairo and in Algeria.
As for being underrated, who cares what the other teams or their press think? We are not interested in cheap mind games.
We are more interested in going to ZAKUMI than anything else at the moment, and anyone who stands between us and South Africa may regret.
GO Chipolopolo Go, Pierce the Pharaohs heart, and go for the Algerian and Rwandese Jugular, no Mercy this time. Batu swabila kapati.

Guys this is disgusting!!!!These arabs seem to think Zambia is so inferrior. What shocks me most is that from the onset people thought competition in this group would be between Algeria and Egypt. Well i’ll tell u this those two team have never qualified to the world cup in 2o yrs what is so special about them.?

hi fellow zambians, believe me thats typical of a real algerian(pride for nothing);they want to behave or put themselves were there are not.like john has said, but i will add on to that, not even world cup my brother how many times have we seen algeria in the past africa cups???
having stayed in this country for the past two years till today, believe me our players must really be ready pysichologically.they should remain focus and forget about the point from cairo, team work and detamination will get us all the points because thats there weakness, they dont play as a team,we have seen countries like gambia, senegal get very good results from algiers.

This kind of attitude or opinion should not surprise us. I mean even the pundits had this as a two-team race. It pretty much as been predetermined that it actually is Egypt’s group to lose in the end. My only concer would be as pointed out above there should be no room for complacency, and I’m sure HR will make sure of that. At least, that’s his job to remind them. Obviously, our play prior to CHAN contributed to their perceptions, like the beating we got in Morocco.

But those who have been following soccer for a long time know that there is a reason why Egypt or even Algeria have not been to the World Cup in such a long time. They are good teams at a tournaments held at home or neutral grounds, but in the end they are very poor travelers. So, there’s no need to be scared of them, but we should not underrate any of the teams in the group for that matter.

Well, remember Seoul Olympics after the GUETAMAL and ITALY games, everyone started asking where Zambia is in the world. We are not suprised with such illiteracy. But not only this guy, nearly everyone including RSA underrate us. Iam sure even Zim although we taught soccer to all these guys.

The Algerian captain forgets that Alegeria has been missing some AFCONs. Zambia should just focus on working hard. Go Zambia.

As for Algeria, its will be better when we beat them home & away just like the Gabonese have taught Morocco a lesson. We are in a nononsence mood this time around.Last time,it was Senegal & Togo who got in our way,but not now!.

Hi Rachid, first of all I would like to apologies to you and the rest on behalf of anyone one on this blog who has used such word as “Arab”, it is really a pity that some people can not think. You are very right we are all Africans. Thank you very much for your kind words about Kalusha and Zambia

Zamfoot could be deleting postings that could contain words that can hurt other people as this site has become very international. Surely we have had a good relationship with Algeria. I do not recall any problems

Rachid please bear in mind that it is not everyone on this blog who is using such words

    Cheeers

let’s play and enjoy the qualifier…as a whole the African continent is re-invigurating soocer beautifully and remember sooner or later we (Africans) will deliver this genuinty into champioship….oh, by the way I’m a white Arab boy from Algeria and can’t disagree more on what has been already said about US…but, I should assure you that time after time our people would never preserve any effort to stand-by and support your team in any occasion …it’s in our blood to stand for the under-dog and feel the pride as Africans
