Chipolopolo Boys’ French born Herve Renard has dropped four players including Swedish based midfielder Isaac ‘ Gattuso’ Chansa.
The other three drooped are France based teenage Stophira Sunzu, Davies Nkausu of South African PSL side Supersport United and Zesco United’s winger Jonas Sakuwaha.
National team manager Solly Pandor confirmed the developments to Zamfoot crew in Lusaka in a telephone interview from South Africa.
“Chansa, Sunzu, Sakuwaha and Nkausu won’t travel to Egypt tonight. It’s a pity that we could only take 18 players,” he said without giving reasons for the omission of the four.
In the Frenchman’s final 18, there were places for highly rated teenagers’ trio of Fwayo Tembo, Emmanuel Mayuka and Mbola who all ply the trade in Europe. Forgotten son, Misheck Lungu managed to cut the drop and indicating that maybe more Zambia players based in countries like Sweden, Finland and Israel should be afforded the chance to be assessed by the technical bench.
Full Squad:
Goalkeepers:
Kennedy Mweene (Free State Stars, RSA) , Kalilllo Kakonje (Amazulu, RSA)
Defenders:
Nyambe Mulenga (Zesco), Dennis Banda (GBFC), Emmanuel Mbola (Pyunik, Armenia), Misheck Lungu (Bodapest Honved, Hungary), Joseph Musonda (Golden Arrows, RSA), Kampamba Chintu (Amazulu, RSA)
Midfielders:
Rainford Kalaba (Gil Vicente, Portugal), Felix Katongo (Chateauroux, France), Fwayo Tembo (Etoile Du Sahel, Tunisia), Noah Chivuta (Supersport United, RSA), William Njobvu (Zesco), Francis Kasonde (Power),
Strikers:
Emmanuel Mayuka (Maccabi Tev Aviv, Israel), Chris Katongo (Arminia Bielefeld, Germany), Jacob Mulenga (Chatearoux, France) & Given Singuluma (Zanaco)

i think leaving out Gattuso and Jonas was a mistake.anyways we shall do it. though i still cant believe shom shom is no more. we should definately dedicate this game to him

It seems Chansa’s time like Sinkala and Big Mo has come. I respect HR’s opinion though i don’t agree with it, as the strategy is ultimately his and he alone will be accountable for the consequences from us the stakeholders. Meanwhile here is another story on Tana-same old story of communication and we shall never know the truth.
Tana wishes team good luck
Written by Sandra Mulowa
ZAMBIA’s veteran defender Elijah Tana has said that he is not bitter after coach Herve Renard
dropped him from the Chipolopolo team ahead of Sunday’s 2010 World/Africa Cup Group C qualifying match against Egypt.
Tana, who recently signed on with newly-promoted Angolan side, CR Caala has failed to join Chipolopolo since the team set-up training camp in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Tana, who spoke in an interview in Luanda en route to boarding a flight to Johannesburg unaware that he had been dropped just 24 hours earlier, said his omission gave a chance to other players to take up the challenge of playing for Chipolopolo.
“I am not bitter. It’s ok (being dropped) since there are young boys that can work,” Tana said.
“It’s ok so that I can rest. I am not annoyed, I am not bitter. I am ok here and doing fine. I will support them. I wish them good luck. I know they will play well.”
And Tana said he had not been communicated to officially that he had been dropped but that the development would give him a chance to settle at his new club.
“I came here for work, they also want me to deliver. I was released today (Wednesday). Now I have to go back (to where his club is located) I have to look for a place to stay so that I go back tomorrow. I am in Luanda,” Tana who was on his way back from the airport said.
And Tana said it was unfair to say that he had not been in contact but blamed it on poor communication.
“They don’t communicate well. Here we are respected. If I have a problem I struggle till I come. Last time I made it for Ivory Coast. Communication should be proper. It’s unfair to portray me like I’m not interested,” he said.
“I do sacrifice a lot for my country.”
However, he said he would be available for any future games for Zambia.
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo team manager Solly Pandor said defender Emmanuel Mbola had joined the team from his Armenian side Pyunik Yerevan on Tuesday evening.
Pandor also said that Power Dynamos defender Francis Kasonde had joined the team yesterday to replace Himoonde Hichani who has malaria and was expected back in Zambia yesterday.
“HH (Himoonde) is better but he will have to continue his medication in Zambia,” Pandor said.
Pandor also revealed that Chipolopolo was due to play a training match against South African Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates by press time last evening.

I can only hope we wont be in for line=up shocks by this shocking Frenchman. how on earth can he drop Chance without giving reasons. His experience was needed. Anyway amano kuli driver. Lets go Zambia Lets go!

Tana must check the Internet!!!

To be honest I can see weaknesses in this side. There are not enough wingers in this squad.Clliford Mulenga should not have been dropped. Jonas is winger and could have added some firepower to this squad. There are only two players who can play good wing play here in my opinion. Fwayo Tembo cannot last 90 minutes in such a high profile fixture. The attacking midfield position is another worry for me.
Zambia Fan in Atlanta on Thu, 26th Mar 2009 5:51 PM
I am not sure that it was wise to drop Chansa. He obviously has a plan though and we are loaded at the midfield position. I too am interested in any information as to actual game time and where I can watch live on the internet.
chamwe kaira on Thu, 26th Mar 2009 5:56 PM
I hope its not because Isaac thinks ” he has arrived.” I read a moving story about the Nigerian captian Kanu today. When he arrived in camp with the rest of the European players, they were told to rest as they had just arrived. Upon seeing that only six players were going for training, Kanu said there was no need to rest but join the six as it was going to be unfair. This is a rich guy, who was played for Ajax, Arsenel and others. Only Chris Katongo shows such dedication. Our players easily become big headed.

the king is back…well it seems that sakuwaha did not impress but i like the way he plays but lets reflect on the golden chance he got to score at the chan and evaluate possible reasons for missing a one-on-one like that…maybe excitement!well we dont need that ryt now
soccer pundit on Thu, 26th Mar 2009 6:05 PM
i would have loved to see sakuwaha come in as a sub, anyway the coach has reasons to why he has dropped the 2 players.i strongly belive maybe its the aspect of attitude on chansa’s part.chansa can become rude at times.
Vincent Numbwa on Thu, 26th Mar 2009 6:13 PM
Guys even cliff Mulenga had written on freedoms wall on face book wishing our team the best.

At this point i think we just have to trust in Renard and what he is trying to build. I have been a longtime Supporter of his and still backed him even after everyone was calling for his head. This is his team and now he has to take ownership of the results and i hope if they do badly he does not talk about seeing more players. This is his bed, he made it and now he has to lay in it. Not really suprised that Chansa did not make the team, remember he has not really featured in Renard’s teams the past 10 months. When the man says he will not play names he means and you have to give the guy kudo’s for sticking to his guts and omitting players 90% of us in the blogg world would never dare omit. Which Zambian coach would dare omit Clifford, Chansa, Sinkala, sichone?Overall it is a good mix of young/old and what better way to get experience than in Cairo stadium in front 70,000+?!
I hope they do well, meaning they draw or if they loose its 1-0 or 2-1. If we win that would be great(i see a tie 1-1), but i do know that they will not embarass us because this team has grown over the past 10 months. I do not see a reincarnation of the 5-1 beatdown from the 08 afcon, but i do see great determination and desire to win plus the football displayed by us will be a sight to see. Below is how i think they should lineup:
Mweene
Lungu/Musonda
Chintu
Nyambe
Mbola
Kasonde
Kalaba
Felix
Chris
Singuluma
Jacob
Goodluck to us all! Zambia 1 Egypt 1

What do you mean? not enought wingers. Katongo Chris and Felix, Fwayo, and Kalaba kan play on the wings as well as Mayuka. By the way we are playing Egypt with sense. Te 4-2-4 system tuka bomfya iwo. Take it easy. Wingers, wingers abanshi. We will attack from one wing and defend in numbers. Our game will be tactical chapwa. 4-2-4 yalipwa

4 defenders and no defenceful midfielder my foot. Just where did you play your football. Let us leave this to the coach cause some of you are now really retrogresive

S.A 2010 HERE WE COME
The Ambassador on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 3:08 AM
Am trying to understand why Renard dropped Chansa??? And the only possible reason that comes to mind is “VERSATILITY”. The same reason Clifford was dropped for Noah Chavuta few months ago.
Renard was obviously in a tight corner but considering that he wants to take a defensive approach in the Egypt game ,he had to drop two of the attacking midfielders ( Chris, Felix, Kalaba, Fwayo,Jonas, William and Chansa) and unfortunate Jonas and our “Gattuso” were out of luck. In chess there is what they call a sacrificial move, where a big piece like a knight is sacrificed to win a game.
The other possible reason is that Renard has not seen Chansa play a lot of games.
I personally would have loved to see him in the starting line-up, however, we can not cry over spilled milk, we have to move on and rally behind our national team.
2010 here we come!!!!

KK11 on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 5:04 AM
Justice Kafusha I see ur point as far as not having Given and Jacob together. The only reason I have in the line up at the same time is cause I feel like Renard will play an agressive game hoping to get a goal.If we are leading or tied A little after half time I believe he will close shop by removing one of the strikers and putting in another midfielder so they line up in a 4-5-1. But once again these are just my gut feelings or what I would do. Happy to hear what u think or any other Blogger’s out there…..
Zambia stay up!

Bane,
No one is indispensable like i always say and HR is under no obligation to give a reason for dropping Chansa. He told us he will not play names kwapwa and it’s no like the ones that have been dropped are very exceptional players (Messi, Kalu, CR7, Charles Musonda, UCAR who were also not inddispensable but very valuable). Let’s forget about TRANSACTIONAL thinking that has been replaced by TRANSFORMATIONAL thinking. JOBS FOR LIFE are long gone in the 21st century!!!
Eliza on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 7:27 AM
I think dropping Chansa isn’t ok. Because Chansa would ve playered better if he was pattenered with Lift footer Noah Chivuta. Anyway I wish the team all the best and I respect the coach’s selection.
All the very best guys!!!. May the Lord God almighty go with you.

Kolokombwa on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 9:10 AM
I hope Renard knows what he is doing by dropping Chansa and leaving the likes of Chivuta in the team. Anyway, we have no choice but to trust him. We are likely to play a 4-5-1 in this game, though i would prefer a 4-4-2 formation. We have never been good defenders as Zambia. We should not give Egypt too much respect. I think we can take them on punch for punch with two strikers upfront. They will come at us, but they also know they can be hurt. We have the quality of players to inflict such damage and i think that is what we should go for.
Sibs on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 9:54 AM
Gentlemen & Lady/Ladies. Why do we like speculating. No one knows why Isaac was dropped like Uncle Bob says no one is indespesable. Isaac is a brilliant player without a doubt. Like Magic(blogger) one time called him a Pit Bull the guy is a match winner when in form but i believe the the Coach has a better reason for dropping him.
Even Diego Maradona had to drop Juan Roman Riquelme from the Argentine National team. Riquelme has been the heart & soul of the Argentine team.He has been the orchestrater in the middle but the team has to move on. Lets just wish the boys Good luck.

Just interracted with some relatives to some of our players in the national team.age cheating is there and am told by reliable sources that collins mbesuma is 35 years old and rainford kalaba is 29.i nw knw y collins form has gone down age has caught up with him
Anonymous on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 12:31 PM
There are doubts about some of the players. I also join the call that Sakuwaha deserves a place just like Chansa and Clifford. There is something that these players bring to the team, which is not in ther others. These guys can run and attack opponents, therefore strethcing the opponents. This can be a plus playing away.
Justice Kafusha on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 12:34 PM
Kalaba can not be 29 years, I know the boy from when he came to Denmark with Anthony Kasolo’s Team and played in a jr. tournament, he was just 17 by then and that is 5 years ago, so he is 22 years now
Anonymous on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 12:50 PM
Justice,
I am not supprised by that. Mbesuma probably when he hit peak form some four years ago, that is probably when he was 24-26, and not the 19 we were being told. Beacuse how do some players hit peak when they are teenagers and then disappear.
For Kalaba, the father is around in Muf. He surely can comfirm the age of his son
Georgia Russia on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 1:09 PM
ba justice, its not possbile that kalaba can be 22 years, that guys looks older than what we are told.i can give u one example of some zed goalie based in sa,he claims to be 24 years old but this is one guy who completed his secondary school way back in 97 and hw possible is it for some one who finished school in 2007 to be 24 years old.
Justice Kafusha on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 1:28 PM
Well I do not understand this. Why should someone cheat on his/her age? One does not benefit anything thru age cheating. If this is true then we have a problem
Sibs on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 2:13 PM
George Russia i think your topic is off dude. These guys are not playing for the U-20′s. Why not talk of the game on Sunday. Lets remain positive & not emit negative vibes. By the way some of the players check on Zedfoot.com. Come on man be Positive!!
Uncle Bobs on Fri, 27th Mar 2009 3:12 PM
Ba Justice,
Kalaba must be a bit older than 22 as he played in the Simataa Simataa coached U-17 with Clifford somewhere in 2001. 25 or therabout would be more like it. By the way, the man in Mufulira may not be Rainford’s real Dad, someone whispers to me, some Tembo guy somewhere!!!
But again age at this time is irrelevant as we do battle on Sunday. Viva Chipolopolo!
