by Dinamo,
Shom Shom’ as his Kitwe fans named him begun his soccer career in the Power youth teams in the late 80s when his father was head coach at the Kitwe based club.
Despite showing a lot of potential ‘Shom Shom’ briefly stopped all football activities & only ressurected his career when he joined the now defunct Mulungushi Chiefs where he matured into a quality player & played along side former international striker Mwape Miti.
’Shom Shom’ later followed his father’s footsteps when he joined Nkana FC in the mid 90s almost at the same time his young brother Melvin Mwila was graduating to the Power Dynamos main team from the club’s youth ranks.Mwila was then a key player in the Patrick Phiri drilled Nkana side that featured the likes of Benard Makufi,Musole Sakulanda,Frazer Kamwandi,George Chilufya,Godfrey Sipeka,Gift Kampamba etc & won the 1999 league tittle.
His speed in the wings was second to none. His style of play was simply magic he had unique dribbling skills & only his brother Melvin could match his level of skill in the wings. In the ever fircely contested Kitwe derby between Nkana & arch rivals Power Dynamos Mwila was always the main threat in Kalampa’s attack and his speed gave a lot of nightmares to Zifa Nkhoma & other Dinamo defenders each time the two giants crushed.
In 1997 when the COSAFA cup was launched, Mwila was an important member of the national team which later lifted the cup and he in one game scored a spectacular connection that hit the rough of the net at Independence stadium.
Mwila joined the Egyptian giants Zamalek after he was a thorn in the fresh of the Zamalek defenders and gave a man of the match performance when the scarlet shirted ex-Zambian giants (Nkana F.C) faced the Egyptians in the CAF Champions league.
He was a born again Christian during his days at Nkana and he surprisingly changed his faith to Islam when he went to Egypt and he was even reported to have changed names. After his short career at Zamalek, Mwila became a youth coach at an Academy where he coached until his death.

@saks swazi saks swazi this guy was an egyptian who forgot completely about mother zambia and his parents. If he was still arrive he could have been busy supporting his moslem brothers and nationals on that day. Dedicating this game to him can just favour egypts luck so forget and may his soul rest in peace. Home is home justice kafusha and others are still patriotic with zambian names and pride. I beg to differ with your suggestion but patriotism first. My Condolences to the Mwilas family.

What ever happened to Fred’s faith lets not judge him harshly. He will still remain our great son. I have no problems dedicating this game to him atfer all the guy played not just for Nkana but our national team team come on Alex!

I think this is a diffcult one, I feel that this game should be dedicated to the Gabon air crush victims and their families, after all it was the world cup place we were chasing and it will be just a month before they died when we play. God bless

Ala ine nalila sana.Shom was an inspirational captain for Nkana. He brought back the days of gibby, bubble, muselepete, gentile etc with that 1999 team.many fans thought he was going to play 4 power because he was brought up by power but he decided to come to wusakile and each time we played power ala ale bakanda. Zifa was his toy.the mwila family has arranged a funeral celemony in kitwe next week. I urge all kalampa fans, our cousins the power fans and the entire football family to go in numbers and mourn this hero. I would have liked him to be buried at the Nkana Red Devils burial site in chamboli but its sad he was buried in egypt.Mhsrip

I will never 4get the connection he scored against malawi at independence stadium in 1997, that was one in a kind. May His Soul Rest In Peace. twalila again!

Lets us mourn our brother with honour and dignity.A lot of Zambians have english or foreign names and you can not hold this against them. This does not mean they are less patriotic.Lets focus on the ball and not mix it with Islam or any other religion.
Best wishes to the lads.
