Zambia 1-1 Tanzania,

Tanzania was awarded a bogus penalty in the 85th minute and they coveted it. Against all odds Dennis Banda voleyed in the ball past the helpless Tanzanian goalkeeper.

Senegal have also qualified to the last four.

Check the live text below.

Chipolopolo Boys trainer Heve Renard is set to ommit stand in captain Kebby Hachipuka from tonight’s mouth-watering clasg against group B dark-horses and fast improving Tanzania at the ongoing CHAN 2009 tourney.

Hachipuka who has captained the Chipolopolo Boys in their first two games has been below and looks set to pave way for Francis ‘Mr Reliable’ Kasonde in the engine room.

According to a Zambianfootball.net correspondent in Bouke, Ivory Coast Maggie Mumba, the Frenchman is believed to also hand overlapping teenage full-back Jimmy Chisenga and Dennis Banda in place of Perry Mubanga and George Chilufya res[ecively.

Dennis Banda will partner Elijah ‘Dada’ Tana at the heart of the defence.

And the 40 year old former Black Stars physical trainer has maintained faith in the exciting quintuple of William Njobvu, Henry ‘HB7′ Banda, Jonas Sakuwaha, Ignitius Lwipa and hatrick hero Given ‘Freedom’ Singuluma.

In tonight’s game Zambia need atleast a point while Tanzania coached by Brazilian -born Maximo need to win to advance to semi-finals.

The match kick-off at 18:00 ZMT.

i bless my team Zm as it pounces on Tz with great football …. shalom on all of us …. God bless our land with peace and joy regardless of the match outcome coz such should not determine our inner joy and peace. go Zambia teach our nice neighbours the zambian style in full swing like you did to south africa, ivory coast, italy, bukina faso and mali. go boys/men and make new records for Chipolopolo …. all things are possible … go boys/men …. go Zambia and conquer clearly ….

Its Hachipuka was very slow against senegal. Otherwise it will be a tough encounter. Let us wait and see.

  • Step Aside wrote on 28 February, 2009, 15:46

Well well well… I think the defense is ok. We should make sure we do not allow a goal tonight. I would also have liked to see Mudenda in the starting line up. Anyways, I have faith in HR and I am sure he has some tactic to the changes.

Zamfoot/Bloggers, please give us a live text once the game is on.

HR has made the right decision in resting hachy for kasonde. infact he should have replaced him with d. banda in the senegal game so they could trade places with kasonde. cant i make a good coach?

I like Kasonde’s calmness in the holding role & I hope he plays his game today.D.Banda is one of the best defenders in the ZPL & to me this is a well deserved chance for him to prove his worth.Jimmy Chisenga is also one good talent we have to look at.Mudenda,’Animal’ & Simon Bwalya are the other players I would like to see coming in the game if we manage to secure an early lead.Otherwise this looks like another crack team.Anyone with the charity shield semis results?.

I think the boys are improving. I just watched the game btn Zambia and Senegal (chan game). SABC 1 just televised the match at 15:00. I must say that the performance by Zambia was not as bad as most bloggers put it earlier. Maybe because they compared it to the Zambia Cote D’Voire game. This was a much better performance that the Zambia vs SA friendly where Zambia lost 1 nil last month. It was good to hear the SABC commentator praising Zambia especially that he named the entire Zambia national team which perished off the coast of Gabon in 1993. This South African commentator really impressed me as he really knows and appreciates Zambian football.
On the Zambia TZ match, I see Tanzania going down this evening. I dont think TZ can cause Zambia an upset. Good luck to our COPPER BULLETS. I am now tending to believe that there is a possibility Zambia can take this cup.

  • Whisper wrote on 28 February, 2009, 18:54

Half time 0-0 scoreline. We have dominated, but haven’t had as many chances as our dominance would suggest. Nyambe is doing very well as is his counterpart on the other flank Chisenga (although he has Chilufya on his back), Francis is also having a great match in the middle. He is distributing, tackling and setting the tempo of the match. Jonas has been terrorising the righ full back. The only problem is that he his not comfortable crossing with his left.

Willie is quiet by his standards, and both Ignatius and Given are doing their best work outside the 18. Lwipa needs to make sure that his first touch is sure as there have been a couple of occasions when he has lost the ball. Henry has tried, but again, he isn’t running at the defence and is passing more across and backwards.

Overall I am pleased because we are showing that we can play good football and the TZ are resorting to pumping up long balls. Our grip on the midfield has made them try to miss it out.

    Keep it up boys

Whisper, Group B is quite interesting. In that group, each team has their destiny in their own hands. So, they all know a win sees them through, so it will be interesting to watch tomorrow. I really do not have a preference for any team in Group B. I would probably want to avoid Zimbabwe. They know our game and they always play us close. It could be similar to today’s game where one goal decides the game. I think every other team including Ghana will let us play our game which to me gives us a better chance of qualification.

In the more likely event that we meet Senegal in the final, I would like to see us employing better tactics.

  • Mario wrote on 28 February, 2009, 20:13

TZ played a good game and Zambia also would have won earier we had some clear chances. The poor referee destroyed alot the entire match. The Penalty given to TZ was fake. In a Nut shell prepare more either to face DRC or Ghana unless Libya and Zimbabwe produces a huge puset in group B.

Best Performers for Zambia: Jim Chisenga, Mulenga, Sakuwaha, Tana, S and H Banda, Singuluma had fair game but was over marked. Lwipa did fair good as well.Dennis Band’s strike best gaol of the Tournament and Man of the Match award for Dennis or Jim Chisenga. We still need to sharpen the strike froce and patch up the loops in Defence. All in all I can smell a good silverware for Zambia.

Sorry guys for my asking about the ref did not watch the game.

  • Whisper wrote on 28 February, 2009, 21:13

Sibs, the ref made a huge error with the TZ penalty. He awarded it for handball. Firstly, it never touched Tana’s arm/hand. Secondly, even if it did, Tana was sitting on the ground outside the pitch!!

Now, there was also question mark over the corner that led to Zambia’s goal. It could have come off a Zedian (I haven’t seen a reply) and therefore should have been a goal kick.

Apart from those two things the game more-or-less refereed itself. There wasn’t a malicious tackle the whole game and every other decision was pretty clear cut.

Having said that I think their keeper fouled Francis Kasonde in the first half and we should have had a penalty, but no one really made too much of it.

To our TZ brothers. Guys, hold your heads high. You did well and from the looks of things your Football Association is more serious than ours, therefore there is every possibility that you guys will become a consistent force on the continent. Well done!!!

Finally, talking about our FAZ. Why the hell did Chisenga have Chilufya on his shirt and why was Nyambe’s #3 the wrong way round?! These are small details but they make a huge difference. What if (and I’m certain there were) scouts in the stands who wanted to recommend Chisenga, but instead of putting his name down they put Chilufya. It could mean George Chilufya being invited for a trial instead of Jimmy Chisenga. The other thing is that TZ could lodge a protest that there were inconsistencies in the players name. It could lead to sanction because they could argue that Chisenga wasn’t registered as part of the squad. It is ridiculous that things like this happen.

    What do you guys think?

  • Bonaventure wrote on 28 February, 2009, 21:14

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) says that the number of teams taking part in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) will be increased from eight to sixteen from the next edition.

The maiden edition of the competition – meant only for home-based players – is currently being held in the Ivory Coast, with the 2011 tournament slated for Sudan.

“Caf has agreed to increase the number of the teams in the CHAN to 16 from the next edition in Sudan,” Caf director of communications Suleiman Habuba told BBC Sport.

“A lot of federations were hesitant when the tournament was launched (in 2007) but they have changed their minds and now want to play in it.”

Habuba said the decision would help raise the quality of the local leagues in countries and make games in the tournament more meaningful.

“The standard of play since this edition started last week has positively surprised many people about the standard of the leagues in Africa,” Habuba said.

“So we think it is the right time and opportunity to cater for more teams and help the league to grow further.

“The expansion will add excitement and relevance to more group matches at each tournament from the next edition,” he added.

The CHAN is played between national teams, but only players who are based in their home country’s domestic league are be eligible.

Stars playing in Europe and even those who have moved to other African leagues are not be allowed to take part.

The tournament is being held every two years.

  • FIFA wrote on 28 February, 2009, 22:52

  • FIFA wrote on 28 February, 2009, 23:01

Justice Kafusha The tournament is not even over and they are already concluding. The politics at caf is serious lets ,lets just say from group b their preffered countries were Ivory coast and senegal. For Zambia to even top the group is no good for them.Lets work hard and develop our sporting faciliites in ZED.As a COUNTRY and Zambia being a badly mismanaged country,a country run by cadres , despite it being rich, very few foreigners would want to associate themselves with it.Fair play does not mean ideal blowing

  • Baba wrote on 1 March, 2009, 0:41

Excellent observation Mr FIFA, you picked an excellent name if it is to speak for your way of thinking as evidenced in the two contributions above: FIFA-the father of football. Especially if you cant show support for your own people who want to get there, impossible to get any love.

I agree with you FIFA and you speak as a futurist, we have to catch up with the rest of the world in development of infrastructure for our sports men and women at that very cost it comes with. In fact I absolutely don’t understand why the government has taken so long with the independence stadium. Mulongoti was talking of asking the Chinese in Ndola to indepence stadium; thats one story that tells you that independence might be very far away.

And then since there is the senior Africa Cup which takes in all those 16 teams, this tournament will better remain with eight teams. Well, the facts might be different, as Justice suggests-then members of CAF will do well to lobby to maintain an eight team tournament. Yes the tournament is very exciting especially that Zambia will play the semi finals, but nice, soon it will come to an end.
An Eight team local leagues tournament is an incentive for the best competition among the local leagues.

  • Billy wrote on 1 March, 2009, 1:12

The issue of a stadiun in Zambia makes my blood boil. I agree with FIFA and Baba, maybe thats why CAF does not even respect us because leaders in Zambia have no respect for its own people. I was amazed to see Rwanda (formerly war-torn country with no speakable natural resources compared to Zambia) host the CAF U-20 tournament. Rwanda even has stadia and Zambia nothing. For sure this country has been mismanaged and thats why foreigners do not respect Zambia because its own leaders have no respect for its people. If the govt had respect for its people, a lot of infrustructure including stadia would have been put in place. HIV infected politicians are flown abroad for medication at the expense of national development, and while its own people die in poor hospitals. Anyway I end here.

  • Matafwali wrote on 1 March, 2009, 3:39

I liked Renard’s passion. He really was screaming at the referee and barking instructions to the players. However, he just can’t seem to get the midfield to tick. His gamble of taking off both strikers almost cost us the game. Granted the ref had a hand in that possibility, but it was a gamble none the less. Henry Banda and Sakuwaha were continually changing sides, but they rarely ran at the defenders if at all. They were more pedestrian. They operated like they were central midfielders as opposed to wingers, holding on to the ball too long. The other thing I observed was that our players tend to concentrate play on one side, overloading the side where the ball is. At one point they were trying to run the ball through a whole host of Tanzanian players who were packed on the right side of the field and no one thought of changing the point of attack to the other side. The few times the ball was passed across the field, it was over or under hit. Lwipa, I thought did very well when he had the ball, unfortunately he had to go deep to collect the ball or end up on the wing, leaving Singuluma with no support. Singuluma showed that he clearly has a knack for goals, but he needs good service. The young right-back, I believe Chisenga is his name was a revelation.

Overall, this was a better performance compared to the Senegal game. But we have to start scoring again.
