Nkhetani, Lwipa back in the fold

February 3, 2009

nkhetani
Former International defender Kennedy Nkhetani and his Zanaco teammate Ignitius Lwipa are the two high profile names who have been recalled back by unsettled national team trainer Herve Renard in what could be his final training sessions at the helm.

Nkhetani returns 12 months after his school boy mistakes in the 2008 African Cup of Nations against Cameroon while Lwipa last played for Zambia in a Cosafa Cup match in 2007. Lwipa has an incredible record of five goals in 8 international caps.

Also back in the fold is former Young Arrows duo of Lyianga Chiwanki and Whiteson Simwanza who are now with Red Arrows. Zanaco defender Eugene Shamakamba has also been drafted in together with Division one South, Nkwazi’s former under-20 defender Derrick Mwansa, a player the Frenchman never rated during his temporal stint with the under-20 last year.

While there’s a place for Makundika Sakala of Division 2 South side Amakumbi (formerly UNZA Stars-a club owned by Simataa Simataa), University of Zambia student Peter Chilemena failed to make the list.

Both Chilemena and Makundika earned their initial call up to the national team about a fortnight ago after impressing ’the Frenchman during a futsal match (a 5 side).

From the Zesco United squad Renard has only room for goalkeeper Jacob Banda and striker Jonas Sakuwaha while Nyambe Mulenga, Nicholas Zulu, Kondwani Mtonga and Lottie Phiri have been ignored.

The Starting line up which played against South Africa exactly a week ago. From L-R; Tana, Kebby Hachipuka, Kennedy Mudenda and Makundika Sakala.

Red Arrows striker Agripa Mbewe and Zanaco’s exciting winger Allan Mukuka are also not part of the squad.

Hichani Himonde is on standby as he is making steady progress from his foot injury together with the trio of Emmanuel Mbola, Willliam Njobvu and Francis Kasonde who are in Russia attending trials.

After arriving in the country on Saturday, Given Singuluma is also expected to join.

Also bouncing back is the long serving team manager Solly Pandor who takes over from Dingwall Hayden.

Zamfoot, why would these be his final training sessions at the helm? Do Y’all really think he is a quiter? He claimed he was not last week.what’s the latest with Mbola and the lot who are in Russia? What team(s) are they having “trials” at?I still have faith in the Frenchman, rumours be damned!!!

Good lucky Zambia. All those chosen should know that they carry the hopes of many Zambians and give in their all.

I am not too comfortable with some players excluded. Why does HR keep shuffling the squad?

That would be more encouraging for Renard to leave. I can assure you, FAZ made a terrible mistake by picking on this man,at great expense. He was thrown in the dip end and couldnt swim. Let him go to Oman where there’s too much money, and join his former boss.

I strongly believe we have been paying too much and nowhere except Zambia that such a coach’s poor performance could be accepted.Let the man go in peace.

Where is Billy Mwanza?I prefer the backline of Kennedy Nketani,Clive Hachilensa,Billy Mwanza and Elijah Litana for experience sake plus the inclusion of Moses Sichione and Edwin Phiri , Joseph Musonda and Davies Nkausu.Misheck Lungu is also supposed to be recalled to the national side.In the midfield role we should have Ian Bakala, Isaac Chansa, Felix Katongo , Rainford Kalaba , Clifford Mulenga, Andrew Sinkala and Noah Chivuta and strikers we should have Christoper Katongo,Collins Mbesuma, Jacob Mulenga,Fwayo Tembo and James Kamanga. To me the inclusion of those players complete the best Zambian side we can assemble and Renard’s coaching job will be safe.

I do not know what this coach is up to. I am not just criticising, but all the time the squad changes. There is no consisitent whatsoever in the local national team. National team naisaluka, its like everyone can easily play for Zambia now. In the good olden days, you really have to prove yourself to don that Zambia jersey. Thats why we had a stronger squad. I do not want to be misquoted, anyone can play for Zambia but as long as he really proves himself. But what is happening now is like Zambian team naisaluka nomba.
Ba Liwana, Davies Nkausu is off form. He doesnt even feature for his club SSport. He doesnt even make the bench for that matter. I wonde if you watched the last friendly btn Zambia and SA. You woundt even mention his name in the squad you’ve given in your comment above.

Alexander, this is the squad for CHAN therefore it is comprised of local players, but evsn so I have to question some of your suggestions. Hachilensa and Musonda, they are both tried, tested and failed.

I have to agree with you Billy, we have no consistency in the team. I think the idea that we have this chap Sakala in the team is a joke. How can a player that hasn’t tasted league action be thrown into a national team?

Abena Whisper so this Makundika Sakala was spoted during a 5 aside Futsball tournament. How do you recommend players from 5 aside to the National team.
Nothing personal to Makundika the guy is far from being a National team player he could not pass the ball,no ball control he was runing around the pitch like a heardless chicken. The man even failed to put the ball in the net from 5yards.I have seen players have an off day on the pitch but uyu umu boys is just fit for club football atleast for now.No wonder most guys gave him 0/10 after the S.A friendly.HR should be serious at times atase!!

Why stop at Futsal, why don’t we just go an pick one of the guys who play behind Roma Cathedral in Lusaka? If this was Renards choice then he can’t complain of other people meddling with his decisions, it seems he needs all the help he can get.

FAZ please do us all a favour and embark on an intensive programme of coach training. We don’t just want these ‘free’ taster sessions whereby some unknown chap from KNVB comes to Lusaka for 3 days to teach Chicken and the guys how to put down cones. We want an ongoing programme where coaches (from school to national team) are taught football in the 21st century. In the old days we had Jochan Figge doing that job and we had some very good coaches. Simataa and his goons are a joke, actually thinking about it. What qualifications has Simataa got apart from being a scout leader?!

I am not sure wether the same Makundika plays for City. But I remember watching a similar player playing for city.I was not impressed by his play. When I saw the same chap in the national team, was shocked.Common guys let us be serious. There are better players than that guy.

Alexander Liwana,RSA I think you have misunderstood the reason why he has picked the team he has picked .This is in preperation for the chan tournament where he is only meant to pick local based players which he has done .Unless all off you can suggest players he can pick from the local league you are better off keeping your thoughts and opinions to yourself .I feel most of you criticise without putting any thought into your arguements .
And yes i know we all love zambian football but lets us criticise our team, coach and football association constructively ie with facts and not illusions we dream up in our bedrooms. Many thanks gentlemen for hearing me out .

The squad I have suggested is not the squad for CHAN but for the next game against Egypt in the qualifying round of African cup of nations and world cup.To me I do not see the significance of CHAN and it is the same as the Champions League for the African club and our participation in it can just put some of our best players at risk for the qualifying matches of the African Cup of nations and world cup and no wonder that is the reason why Egypt is not there.I follow soccer very well for your own sake

Am sure Judge Mkandawire felt hard done after seeing his club mate Chiwanki being called to the national team.

Am sure Emmanuel would agree with me that on saturday, Judge looked livelier and more mature on the ball than Chiwanki. Going by the performance I saw, I would give Judge a nod ahead of Chiwanki.

His pace also is worth talking about.

I dont see Aubrey Zulu in that list, i think he deserves a chance, is there anyone who agrees with me on this one, the guy was jus given a chance against Angola in the away game and Renard has forgoten about him.
