Chansa ‘prefers’ PSL to Europe

February 3, 2009

chansa-afcon
While there has been talk by a common man on the street of having many Zambians trying their luck in Europe, it has come as a surprise to hear that ex-Power Dynamos and Orlando Pirates midfielder Isaac Chansa wants to quit Swedish giants Helsingborg for a posible return to the PSL.

Chansa, says when his contract ends in December, he wants to return to South Africa.

According to Chansa’s business manager Ryan Hartslief the player, who is playing regularly and has no problem living in Sweden, has told him that he is not thinking about staying in Europe as he as he has decided that he prefers playing in South Africa.

Hartslief told Kickoff.com that Chansa would be open to talks from interested PSL clubs as from the end of April.

This news will come as a blow to many stakeholders and fans who have cited Chipolopolo’s decline as the a soccer powerhouse on the continental stage to lack of many players plying their trade in the top leagues in Europe as one of the reasons.

But again from a depth analysis, it one’s guess that the Zambian Gattuso’s business manager is trying to market his client as the 24 year old is in the final year of his contract. With that news that Chansa is not limited to offers, Helsingborg might open up talks for a new deal quickly.

Why? Which Zambian player will ever succeed in europe in the likes of west african stars in europe? Mbesuma, Hachilensa and now ba chansa? Iyo south africa yalitonaula.

It’s just like saying sleeping pe saka is better than on a mattress-total madness. Balefwayafye ukulaisaisa ku Zambia to shine and end up like Billy Mwanza (the boy is waning, mark my words as i heard a rumour that his brother chewed money he was sending for house building and now only has a car-JUST A RUMOUR)and Kilambe. Can someone provide these players with mentors and psychologists, twapapata. If the South Africans themselves haven’t come up with such insane proclamations, who are we to do so? Forgive my strong language as it is just painful with people we have entrusted to carry our national flag. Look at Felix Katongo who even answers to the nickname “Cutman” obviously related ku ukubumuka. He’s the opposite of the elder brother who’s focussed-remember Jomo Sono’s words. It will be more like the Benja-Kalu case though in this instance, it’s the younger one that is the opposite. I just hope he doesn’t get frustrate at his new club like he did at Rennes (biiger club)

There is more than meets the eye to this story. I agree with Zamfoot this Hartlief chap is putting a worm on the hook before casting his line. He is hoping for a fish supper.

Yypical Zambian. Its a curse.Playing in Sweden offers more chances of being sported by a good team in Eng, Germany or Italy. I agree with Uncle Bobs, these boys need help. The other thing has to do with displine, look at Beckham rich but still a good sportsman-no scandals and comitted.
Anyway Zambian players say that “South Africa is half London.”

  6. Georgia Russia on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 2:32 PM

he should just stay in sweden, swedish league is better than psl.playing along side larson is gonna expose him more than psl.what’s with zambian players,is it the language or wheather that affects them

I am interested to hear what comes of this story.

  8. Vincent Numbwa on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 2:48 PM

Sweeden is better for his career. I can only hope he not serious otherwise if he wants he can even come to Zed. Zambian fotballers will never stop to amaze me. We will surely watch the space!

“Icikalipa chunfwa umwine”leave the game to game form of course thats the reason as to why he wants to leave sweden.By no means would he abandon a European club if he was a regular starter.dont forget that age becomes a hindrance as you grow.warming the bench just because its “mangalande”should not be the case.

  10. Conrad on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 2:52 PM

whisper’s analysis makes sense. if in any case its Gattuso’s wish to return to PSL then it must be a social life issue- clubbing, ka beer and ka woman which he was enjoying in SA with that nigerian pirate team mate (can’t remember the name). This is the life he is missing in Sweden.

  11. Big Steve from SA on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 3:20 PM

Shidada Namibia, Beckham has had his share of scandals. He is a discplined proffessional but lets not pat his shoulder too much. He is not the cleanest pro.

Anyway, I also think this is a clever business Manager who is just trying to see what sort of interest he can draw from such a statement. I really dont think Gattuso really wants to come back to the PSL. When he was at Pirates, even just after he healed from his long term injury and was not getting as much gae time as Perry at the time, he would sing about how he wanted to play in Europe. Even though he would get the same sort of salary playing here he is a player who understands the word exposure. This is just his manager dasngling a carrot, lets not be the ass.

  12. BA MUZO on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 3:22 PM

The money may not be enough in Sweden. I know a number of South African players who have quit Scandinivian countries to ply their trade in the rand rich PSL for the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Olando Pirates who pay more than some of these European small clubs. Chansa should aspire for a ‘bigger’ club in a ‘better’ European nation like Chris Katongo did. Perhaps the headline should read: ‘Chansa prefers PSL to Sweden’ unless that Business Manager Ryan Hartslief is telling us ISAAC is not marketable elsewhere in Europe! Could be issues of bread and butter I suspect.

  13. Whisper on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 3:32 PM

BA Muzo, that is a strange one. Chansa went from Pirates to Helsingborg IF, so by your reckoning he took a pay cut to do so? I don’t think that was the case, he was wanted by Helsingborgs so his ‘clever’ business manager should/would have negotiated him a good pay packet that was more than he was getting at Pirates. Guys, we aren’t talking about a small club when we talk about Helsingborg, those guys are serious and a move to the PSL would definately be a backward step.

I think Hartlief is trying to be clever, but I think he’s bungled it because he mentions that Isacc is willing to go back to the PSL. Other European teams might actually look at that and think to themselves, ‘this guy has no ambition and no drive, do we really want him to join us?’ Maybe he should have said that Gattuso wanted to move onto bigger and better things instead.

  14. Jimbo on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 3:45 PM

Isak Chansa! Suprise suprise. As Dennis Liwewe would say “let us wait and see” It will be a great shame to abandon Europe for SA, but i guess he has his reasons, if its true.

  15. Angry on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 4:32 PM

This is typical of Zambian mentality, under-achievement and being content with mediocrity. Thats Chansa’s mentality too. He will surely end up like the legion of Zambian players who’ve played in the PSL in RSA 9e.g Mbesuma, Makasa, Milanzi, Davis Phiri, Linos Chalwe, the list goes on. We are actually speaking for him. Life in europe is not easy, not only for soccer but other discplines too. Just hold on mwana and work hard. I just hope Kalaba and Katongo (Chris) will break this Zambian thing of players not achieving in europe.

  16. Dinamo on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 4:40 PM

This is just one way of annoucing that Chansa will be a free agent in December.Gattuso is one of our players who are regulars at their clubs in Europe & this what we should all be proud of.I knew Chansa from the days Linos Makwaza introduced him to Arthur Davies & I don’t think he deserves some of the words being used in some comments above b’coz he is one player who has developed through the ranks to what he is today b’coz of his determination & hardwork.Yes Chansa is a rough guy on the pitch like the Italian Gattuso but he is one responsible guy who has even invested part of his earnings in Real Estates in his home town (Kitwe).

  17. Munee on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 4:51 PM

Isaac Chansa, please stay in Europe and aim high, why Prefer Mukuba Sec to Unzando.

  18. Emmanuel on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 5:08 PM

    Dinamo has said it all.

Well spoken Angry. They say you can take a man out of the jungle, but you can not take the jungle out of the man. He’s just home sick he needs to get over it. I know its cold up there, but dude come on.

  20. monk police on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 5:48 PM

    Ghettuso ba kumushi sana!
How SA be better than Europe? Anyway before we say too much i would advice Zamfoot to talk to him and hear from the horse’s mouth. It might just turn out like William, Emma and Kasonde’s case (accused of being stranded in Russia when all is well).

  21. Dinamo on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 7:06 PM

Gents this site has become famours to most of our players who are able to use the net. What we say here will build or destroy our players so lets be mindfull of the words we use. This story was created by a South African site & who doesn’t know how these guys promote their so called Rand rich PSL??.My point is that lets try to be positive about our own if we want them to develop.I still insist that Chansa doesn’t deserve these attacks by people who are supposed to be his number one fans

  22. Angry on Tue, 3rd Feb 2009 7:22 PM

In as much as we have to be positive, we have to face reality. Hime being in europe is much better than in mzansi. Most players in SA are looking forward to going to europe, but him he wants to come back, awe. These are the guys we rely on in our national team, but if they are taking retrogressive decisions, then there is no future for Zambia’s football. No wonder our soccer has gone to the dogs, or rather the dogs have come to Zambian soccer. We know its his personal decision totake, but its good for him to just hang on their, after we have been told he is actually seeing play time there. Thats what differentiates btn a west african and a southern african in particular. Put a Nigerian in Chansa’s shous, you will see how a 9gerian guy will make use of his stay at Helsingborgs. I just hope this all thing did not come from Chansa’s mouth. Otherwise if its actually himself who’s made the decision, he better think 2wice.

Gents, its winter now in Europe and the chap is missing Africa. That would be sad for a guy with potential to end up in RSA.Most players in RSA are crying to go Europe, and a poor Zambian used to poverty, thinks RSA is the best. Wrong move, just like Mbesuma. Its most likely, Isaac is failing to settle in the social sense, coz there are not as many Zambians/Africans in Sweden, unlike in RSA.
Please, those close to this guy must advise him not to do that. Stay in there man.

So much negativity. Guys mu chinje

  26. Big Steve from SA on Wed, 4th Feb 2009 9:19 AM

I agree muchinje guys, the player has said nothing!! NOTHING!!! this information is from a report from his manager, so we THIRD PARTY!! we are not even sure if it is true. tomorrow he may comeout and say he would rather die before returning to the PSL, what will you guys say then????? C’MON GUYS TRASH THE NEGATIVITY before you get any sort of fact. At least if this was from the Gatusso himself then you can throw in some trash but C’MON this negeativity is weirdly cruel on a player who has done so much for this country and shown others what determination can do. Gents get real u cant just trash a guy for something he might have not even said. I hope this is there is nomore negativity on this report.

  27. BA MUZO on Wed, 4th Feb 2009 9:43 AM

Whisper # 17, I hear you, Helsinborg are not a big club lets face it. When Chansa left Pirates his situation in the PSL was untenable following that referee slaping incident. He appears to me he wanted to get away from the PSL because of the circumstances. Personal terms may not be as he wanted them to be. In any case, in most of these sides the gulf between Afican players and their colleagues from Europe is HUGE! You may be surprised to learn that Chansa’s salary is 15 TIMES less than that of Henrik Larsson and yet Chansa does the donkey stuff for the team. There is more to this story than meets the eye. Let Zamfoot speak to the lad. Remember, its better if he is marketable he goes to a better EUROPEAN league and earn a bit more or back to PSL if it pays his bills better than Sweden. PERIOD.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this is a pre-emptive ploy from ba Gattuso? My guess is that this chap never caught the eye of a bigger European club; and maybe even the prospects of a new deal don’t look good. This is however one way of keeping options open should there be no offer on the table at the end of his current deal. I must however, give him credit for deciding to come and get more exposure in the PSL and not just end up languishing in lower leagues of some weak European League!

  31. Whisper on Wed, 4th Feb 2009 6:48 PM

BA Muzo, I think you misread what I wrote. I actually said that Helsingborgs ARE a big club. Guys, like I said before I think this statement is an attempt at forcing Helsingborgs hand to offer Isaac a new deal.

I am not being negative, he is a very good player and is a starter at the club (look at the stats on the club website), infact he played in a 2-0 against Brondby (Tsunami’s old club) just last week.

I think Ryan Hartlief is trying get the club to act on a new contract by saying that Isaac would go back to PSL if no deal was forthcoming. In doing so he is hoping that other clubs are alerted and make an enquiry, this will force Helsingborg to offer him a new deal. This is pure speculation at this stage and when push comes to shove I’m sure Isaac would rather stay in Europe. My only issue is that Ryan could have phrased his ‘threat’ a bit better, because this statement makes it look like Isaac has no drive (as demonstrated by the debate on here), clubs might be put off by this.
