Power interview Patrick Phiri

January 1, 2009

Zambianfootball.net understands that Kitwe giants Power Dynamos have interviewed two coaches for the vacant position of head coach.

According to a reliable source it is believed former Chipolopolo Boys coach Patrick Phiri is the favourite to replace veteran trainer Fordson Kabole who was relieved off his duties at the end of last season after failing to land any domestic silverware.

The other coach being sought after is ex-Kabwe Warriors’s Egyptian trainer Mohammad Fathy.

“Power Dynamos have interviewed Patrick Phiri and Mohammad Fathy. But from the way things Phiri is the front runner,” the source said.

After the departure of Kabole by mutual consent, the Copperbelt Energy Corporation sponsored outfit is searching for high profile coach to ‘bring’ back glory to Arthur Davies which has eluded them in the last four yea

rs.

Should Phiri get the nod, one of his first signing will be exciting winger Allan Mukuka of demoted side, Nkana.

This is a tough choice. I like Phiri as a coach. Too bad he joined Nkana so late in the season. I also didn’t think Kabwe Warriors gave the Egyptian coach enough time. I hope he gets a job in Zambia and the opportunity to prove himself.

A close source from Arthur Davies also indicates that Phiri was in a closed door meeting with Power officials yesterday where it is believed that the ex Chipolopolo mentor has agreed terms & has also asked Power not to release dependable players like Billy Mwanza,Francis Kasonde,Kennedy Mudenda,Simom Bwalya etc to clubs that are seeking their services on loan

As for me am not happy for power to remove their veteran coach Fordson. They wud have given him chance so that he cn reorganise the guys. This man is a hero among the coaches in zambia who if given chance
can make a team strong and win a title.Bringing in Phiri if power is not careful will make then cry in this years season.

I totaly agree with you Emmanuel, kabole is as good a coach as PP,i think Power should have given him a chance to prove his worth. Those of us who have followed zed football for decades will tell you that the success of teams like rangers and blades owe it to kabole the time he was at the clubs, the likes of TANA,SICHONE,SINKALA,the two LOTAS to mention a few are all products of FODSON.So my freind chipolopolo dont entirely blame FODSON for POWER’s poor showdown this season,as much as PP

Dinamo, thanks for the info on Kabole. I didn’t know he’d only been with Power for a couple of years. It thought he’d been there for a while. I was about to share the concerns of Emmanuel and KN. Who ever takes over, I hope they can return the club to its glory days. I only hope its PP because I don’t think he’s gotten the appropriate recognition in Zambia.

It is really sad that football management Teams always run to giving coaches the boot, the last man i would have let go at Power is, how has the team performed in the last four years that is 2005,2006, 2007and 2008 and in comparison which year among the four did they perform better surely 2008 is one of them so what was the real reason for letting FK go, if one had been following Power last season, you would have realised that they were among the best teams in the league i.e. team coordination and technical expertise from the bench, it is sad indeed that they could not get any silver wire and getting another coach will be trying this player and that hence just getting back to stage one again, this is not to say im against Coach P, A very good friend of mine whom i have so much confidence in. Anyway goodluck to power.
This is the similar issue at Kabwe Warriors, i wonder why management even had the guts to let Mohammed go, when did that club ever last get players, when did Vias, Owen just to mention but two start playing for that club, management has to realise that sometimes there is very little that a coach can do if players are just too old.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!!!!!

It is sad pp has decided to leave nkana f.C. I know big coaches do not want to associate with division 1 teams.I wud love to see nkana come back with pp.

Pp and kabole must not worry as have contributed alot to football.Best
