Zambia take on minnows Djibouti this afternoon as the regional East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup kicks off in Jinja, Uganda in a lunch time kickoff (12:30).
In the second match of the day in Group B, East African titans; Kenya and Sudan will go head to head at the same venue in the second match of the day. Despite these two matches being played today the official opening ceremony of the tournament will take place tomorrow at Mandela National stadium when the host nation Uganda square it out against Zambia’s 2010 African/World Cup qualifier opponents, Rwanda.
After failing to impress at Konkola Stadium, Rodger Kola (14) will be hoping for a new beggining to rekindle and win back the chipolopolo die hards. Also in the picture is Nyambe Mulenga (20) and Elijah Tana. picture by Jean Mandela.
The Chipolopolo Boys will go into this fixture as the favaurites and the Djibouti defence should keep a vigilant eye on Zambia’s dangerman Given Singuluma. Singuluma will be hoping to repeat his under-23 heroics when he scored an incredible hatrick in the junior Chipolopolo Boys’ 10-0 win.
Upfront Chipolopolo Boys coach Herve Renard will keep faith in misfiring teen striker Rodger Kola to partner the in-form Singuluma.
Probable Line up v Djibouti
……Kola…..Singuluma….
Mudenda…Njobvu…….Kabuku….Sakuwaha
Mbola….Tana…Kasonde……Nyambe
……………..Jacob Banda….
Subs: Davy Kaumbwa, Derrick Kabwe, Lottie Phiri, Dennis Banda, Josphat Nkhoma, Kondwani Mtonga, Kebby Hachipuka
**** Only Given Singuluma and Jonas Sakuwaha were part of the 2006 Cecafa winning Zambia side.
With two potential mouth watering encounters against Kenya and Sudan still to come, Chipolopolo Boys trainer Herve Renrad is aware anything less than a win in today’s clash will be a setback.
After reverting back to Zambia’s tradition 4-4-2 formation in the last fixture, Renard is tipped to continue with the same starting line-up which beat Angola 3-1 on aggregate. This means that the much talked about Kebby Hachipuka will continue with another shift on the bench with Kabwe Warriors’ hardworking midfielder Maunga Kabuku will partner William Njobvu in the middle of the pack.
On the flanks, the 40 year old coach will be banking on the speed and intelligence play of Kennedy Mudenda and Jonas Sakuwaha to unlock the Djibouti full backs.
The final five picks itself with only Francis Kasonde coming on for the injured Hichani Himonde.

Why are the shorts not matching the shirts in most cases. Sometimes winning is all about discipline and this seems far from it. The players look ill prepared and as if someone rushed them to put on and just go on the pitch. Organisation goes a long way in determining success. Any good luck guys and make as proud. Win this thing again!!!!!- I have a feeling that one ore two of you will be spotted for the january transfer window esp from french and portuguese clubs.
