SOUTH Africa-based national soccer team midfielder Noah Chivuta has donated a set of Umbro jerseys worth R5,000 (about K2.5 million) to his former club, Kabwe Warriors.
Chivuta said during the donation yesterday at Railway Systems of Zambia (RSZ) offices in Lusaka that the gesture was a way of thanking Warriors, the team he played for before he trekked to South Africa.
The SuperSport United player, who signed a three-year personal contract with Umbro in July this year, is also scheduled to donate another set of jerseys worth a similar amount to premiership outfit, Roan United during the course of this week.
He said having played in the Zambia league before, he was aware of the hardships local sides were faced with regarding playing kit.
Chivuta said he treasured all his former local sides because they had helped in moulding him into the player that he is today.
The former Zambia Under-23 skipper said because he has a running contract with Umbro South Africa, it became easy for him to secure quality kit at a good price.
Warriors chairperson, Vincent Sandamuka thanked Chivuta for the gesture, describing it as a challenge to Zambian players based abroad.
Sandamuka has since appealed to all Zambians playing in well paying leagues to emulate Chivuta.
He said the strip, which is in Warriors’ traditional colours of blue and white, was a boost to the team’s moral ahead of the new season.
“Noah is making this donation to our teams at a time when we are suffering from a number of things, among them lack of proper playing kit. This is a gesture well done by Noah, especially that he is donating to his former club,” he said.

Thats the spirit. I think we have debated alot on this blog over the past few weeks on our players giving back to mother Zambia.
I think this is a good gesture by Noah and this should be a challenge to all of us who call ourselves stakeholders in the game.

Way to go Noah. Again this is not mandatory for others as we don’t give back to the suffering ex-players like Wiseman Chizumira for the entertainment they gave us soccer fans. During the players’ playing time they offer a service that is paid for. Thereafter there is no contractual requirement that it be made mandatory for them to give back as we like to term it in Zambia. How many of us professionals (academically) go back to our ex-employers and give a free service. Fairness should prevail. But once someone donates, it should be acknowledged like in this case. Mabbwana, on your appeal to all of us that call ourselves stakeholders, i totally agree with you.

Way to go Noah, thats what we want to see, true about us stake holders lets walk the talk gents, on one past topic i urged each one of us to try and revive our supports clubs at our respective teams, it only takes creating a mailing list and then you begin to meet then you fund raise and so the story goes, look at roan and chambeshi not forgetting Nkana, its us who watch football so we must take responsibility and try and save and serve our clubs

Imagine all the people who have gotten something from their communities giving back. I mean all graduates of schools buying at least a desk, glasspane, or box of chalk each. I tell you the world would be a better place to live in. Its things like these that encourage and challenge me. Lets all be challenged. Comrades working abroad, as you come for leave, visit your school, local Football club, clinic and see what you can do.

Ba Jimmy,
I hope he’s securing his own future as well as i can assure you that the same people praising him today will be the ones to say “Ba Noah balepelafye ama donations mwabamona nomba”. In Zambia to expect giving back doesn’t just work as i saw when we tried it with UNZA-ALUMNI where you can imagine not a single lecturer ever attended a meeting despite the meetings being at UNZA. But if you went to the Staff Canteen you would find them theorising on how the government is messing up the country yet UNZA can’t even account for funds given to them by the government as we are made to believe they haven’t had audited accounts as far back as 1998 or 2000. So like what we are saying here, the serious ones need to get together and move things and once successful abapamwinshi will join in, believe me you. We tried it with Nkana when i was in Zambia but it seems to have died down upon my departure as the people i handed over to lacked the passion in my opinion. In typical Liverpool fashion, I,ll with a few serious ones revive our dream in a different way. I’d shared our thought process then with Zamfoot. So guys like Spaks is saying (lucky him Power are in very liquid hands though the current financial meltdown may not spare them!) let’s start with our ;local clubs. I felt guilty a few weeks ago buying for 500 rands a Lpool replica jersey at Joburg Airport and wondered why i couldn’t do it for Nkana.

For now you can call it luck that power is liquid but my dream is that we some day depend on funds that belong solely to the club, if 2moro power lose the sponsorship i want us to be able to survive on our own, we should begin to work towards developing the game to a business, like i have always said all those interested and willing to contribute towards zambian football, we should meet up and share ideas and from there implement them. I can be reached on [email protected], forward with development!!!!!

CONTIBUTIONS TOWARDS PREPARATIONS FOR AFCON/SA2010
Sometime back I made a suggestion that we soccer fans lead by example by making contributions towards the teams preparations for AFCON/SA2010. We can do this in our way that is we can ask zamfoot, whom we all trust to open an account at one of the banks in zed and then we can send our contributions to this account. The money will not handed direct to FAZ but we shall someone at zamfoot to be responsible for footing some of the bills in realation to how much we can raise. If we for example can contribute say 100, 0000 kwacha or 200, 000 kwacha each that could be ok. 100,000 kwacha and if say 10 people pay that will be already 1,000.000 kwacha. So if we can get 100 people to contribute we easily come up with 10,000,000 and that could be a big job. So guy let us get together and do something, not just talking like ba FAZ and so on. Let us show what we can do for our team. I think even the business houses will feel ashamed and as such will get on board
I am sure we are more than 10,000 true fans of zed soccer. Awaiting your response
Guys what do you think
Spaks on Wed, 24th Dec 2008 4:25 PM
That is the way to think ba kalamba ba Justice, i totally agree with your suggestion albeit that we need to find a better method of accountability, if you recall some time back an account was opened with Zanaco for Afcon, till date we dont know where the money is or how much was raised, i know for a fact we have bankers on the blog who can suggest a more transparent and effective method, as regards Zamfoot, i feel we too should begin to support them as they rely on personal funds to get us all these stories and information therefore suggest that we as well in the next year work towards contributing something to them, i can safely plegde to get at least one advert on this site to help sustain zamfoot come next season

Even Collins Mbesuma has donated to Roan before. Let not forget and thank everyone who have remembered their communities.

Merry Christmas people.I like what SPAKS and JUSTICE are sugesting here. This is the kind of thinking we need to move forward.About the idea to assist Zamfoot that will a step in the right direction. Please Gents lets come up with ideas that will enable us implement some of these things
KN on Fri, 26th Dec 2008 10:11 AM
Good idea but how do we kick start it,a lot of us would like to contribute to both zamfoot and the national team financialy, suggest ways on how it can be best done.
Dinamo on Fri, 26th Dec 2008 12:30 PM
Gents why can’t we assist Zamfoot to come up with a Magazine that can be produced maybe quartery or after one or two months etc. The magazine can have player profiles, latest news & events,Kachepa on the ball & the updates on the players abroad.I think this magazine can sale out there and we can also act as agents to help distribute the magazine to the diffrent places we are based in order to reach as many Zambians as possible. To kick start this project, Zamfoot should find a way were interested fans will register as project members. Then we will agree on a fee which we will contribute as members to begin the project. The proceeds from the project can be chaneled to support Zamfoot and we can also donate to the Chipolopolo boys as Zamfoot members and even engange in programmes like youth football development. What do others think??
