Dinamo, Warriors & GBFC miss out on Continental

December 17, 2008

Nchanga Rangers’ record as the only Zambian club to have never being demoted to the lower ranks came to an end as the Chingola based outfit were on Wednesday afternoon relegated to Division one North. Click here to view the league table

Will Elijah Tana be playing Division ONE next season?

Despite winning beating stylish Roan United 2-1, the 1998 league Champions failed to maintain their league status though they managed to finish equal on 35 points with Lusaka Dynamos who were stunned by bottom placed Green Eagles as they went down by 3 goals to nil. Dynamos have a better goal difference.

Champions: Zesco United – K100 million

Runners up: Red Arrows- K50 million

Relegated: Nchanga Rangers, Nkwazi, Nkana & Green Eagles

Zesco United will face Kenyan Champions Mathare United in CAF Champions league while Red Arrows will Mundu Football from Zanzibar. The first legs will be played on weekend of February 1, 2009. The winner between Red Arrows & Mundu Football will play Nigeria’s Ocean Boys. Should Zesco United advance, a tie against Africa Sports of Ivory Coast awaits them.

Crowd favourite and Zambian glamour side Nkana also recorded a victory over Young Arrows in Kitwe. The Wusakile Boys who have been demoted as well put up a strong show as they won 2-1.

Still in the drop zone, Nkwazi lost 2-1 to Green Buffaloes to confirm their relegation back to the lower ranks.

In the battle for the second slot, Red Arrows thrashed Power Dynamos in the last league match of the season to qualify for next years’ CAF Confederation Cup.

With continental football at stake both sides looked geared for the encounter but the Kitwe giants suffered a major set back when veteran defender Laughter Chilembi was given marching orders in the 26th minute and this forced Dinamo to play with 10 men.

The Nkoloma based side capitalised and used it to their advantage as they thrashed the Fordson Kabole coached side 3-0 to finish second on the log and subsequently qualifying for CAF Confederation Cup.

At Sunset Stadium, in-form striker Given Singuluma scored a volley to help Zanaco to a 1-0 win over Kabwe Warriors. The bankers impressed and pressured the railwaymen for a large part of the match.

International striker Rodger Kola hit the post and Chisamba Lungu was equally impressive while Banda ‘Thierry’ Henry had an off-shift. Former international centreback Kennedy Nkhetani was used as a holding midfielder and had an average game.

Angolan based midfielder Ian Bakala and Boyd Mwila of Swedish promoted side watched the Zanaco v Kabwe Warriors.

Wednesday’s Results

Zanaco 1-0 Kabwe Warriors

Red Arrows 3-0 Power Dynamos

Nkana 2-1 Young Arrows

Nkwazi 1-2 Green Buffaloes

Roan United1-2 Nchanga Rangers

Green Eagles 3-1 Lusaka Dynamos

Konkola Blades 1-0 Zesco United

Chambishi 2-1 City of Lusaka

Wow Jimmy, that is good news about Mbesuma.

Too bad for teams that got relegated. Wish them a quick return to the top flight. I wonder what will become of the likes of Tana and Hachipuka!

8 games and 21 goals, that’s more like it!!

Sad turn for RANGERS,am sure all soocer loving fans are wondering what happens to TANA now.Two things,he continues playing for Rangers and he is guaranteed a regular place at rangers in div 1,does it do any good for a player of TANA’s calibre to play div 1 football more especialy that he is one of our top defenders in the country, the other possible option is for him is Power or Roanie, but again maybe he wont be guaranteed a regular spot and might end up losing his current form and consequently lose his spot ku squad.Power Dynamos should be TANA’s best option, more especialy that there is fodson kabole a coach who natured and groomed him at Blades and later Rangers ,though staying at RANGERS is not a bad idea after all,the likes of Timothy mwitwa ,samuel chomba, whiteson changwe, godfrey kangwa and Richard mwanza stuck to WARRIORS when they were demoted.Food for thought my fellow blogers.

KN I like your reasoning, it is really food for thought. Tana has the age thing working aganist him and as such he needs to ensure that wereever he goes he gets game time cause any bench time at this point in his career basically means retirement on the horizon. Hachipuka on the other side I think wnt struggle ery much with switching teams but he should stay in the premier league and not play div 1 soccer. He has not convinced 100% to cement a place in chipolopolo and as such he should keep focus on cementing his spot. Playing in the lower league could be detrimental to this.
    Kalampa eish!!!! No words

Dinamo were are you, need a tissue (LOL)

Rangers should keep all their players, pay them well and they bounce back next season. However I do not know how they manage that with their poor management team and greedy sponsors plus vultures like Zesco Utd. Dynamos and the Defence teams. I think most players will leave and I do not Rangers and Nkana ever returning to the top flight after this

Anyway it will be nice watching games like Brave Rangers Vs Mighty, Nkana Vs Mighty, Rangers Vs Nkana, Rangers Vs Blackpool etc. Memories of the good old days

Too bad Rangers has also followed Nkana to division one. You cant blame the players for the relegated clubs they tried their best. Its time we put real investment in clubs otherwise big teams will be relegated at the expence of young team with good investment.

Sad as the situation may be Iam still a proud Nkana fan. Nkana 4 life we will be back to were we belong. God help Nkana

Too bad for Brave Rangers!! This team is based right in the HQ of KCM. Wonder why this company couldn’t pump more money in this club but opted to sponsor the league. Its like a rich father who decides to sponsor Children in his community neglecting his own children in his house

Too bad for the relageted teams. It will be quite hard for the relagated teams like Nchanga to keep their prized players especially looking at the economic down turn when it comes to the mining industry.

Like KN suggested, I also think it would good for Tana to seek shelter at one of the 1st Div teams. I should admit that I am one of those who has not been comfortable with people calling for Tana in our national team looking at his age…. Well watching him play against Angola, the guy was way above his colleagues on the pitch and hardly put a foot wrong.

I think the brother still has something to offer. and deserves alot of game time at club like Steve has suggested.

    Ba Rangers chabipa.

Hard luck to Nchanga Rangers and Tana.It is a good lesson to the current crop of administrators who believe in buying players.Almost all the teams that were sponsored by ZCCM are struggling because there is no youth development teams.Under ZCCM we had under 13,15 18,20 where you could easily identify talent.Nkana f.c started buying players when professional football was introduced, but they still had to blend them with players from ‘AJAX’.The only way we can improve our game on the copperbelt is to introduce reserve teams.
My appeal to FAZ increase the number of teams from 16 to 20.No demotions this year. You need teams of Kalampas’calibre in the league to make the league interesting and for clubs to raise some funds in these hard economic times.

Braves its yall time to cry now, remember those dayz u were laughing at kabwe warriors being demoted to div. 1,i love my kabwe warriors though we are an avarage team now.work hard braves u will bounce back next year if u will manage to get good sponsorship.
Kabwe warriors were able to bounce back then because we had good sponsorship ,players salaries were increased to avoid players leaving the club, thats why timo, chomba, kangwa,ba richard, changwe, masuwa, isaac phiri and all those players warriors had never left the club.
i remember we never lost any game in div. 1 .
the moral of a story here is that if the players sacrifice a little bit yall will see back in the premier league in 2010,bye bye braves see u when u get there,or i forgot TAMANGA ZAMSURE IS AN AMATURE TEAM NOW SO BRAVES WATCH OUT.

This is very sad for Rangers but at the same time a lesson to it’s management. It was shocking to hear hw they differered over the issue of Malitoli, some wanted him to leave as coach.Instead of concentrating on finding ways of winning fomular they were busy accusing each other. Then over the issue of Tana staying there.Personally i can advice him to stay there, since they welcomed him after he lost contract from sudan. He shud have a look at Buffon,Nedved,Del Piero when juventus were demoted. They decided to stay when the team was demoted to lower division after the cases of corruption. And the way I look at division one games there Football is more competitive than in super division, since they all aim for promotion.Infact for Tana evn though his age is the concern he can still get a place as a profession in Angola once again.Gud lucky my man and wishing a quick retain of my team in super division.I still remain Bravo forever.

    Ba Spaks and Dinamo,
Though as Nkana we are in a worser position, Power are at it again-inconsistency, either a good first half and bad last half and vice versa. Ala yakosa mu Division 1 North with Mighty, Kalampa naba Brave.

  15. Spaks on Fri, 19th Dec 2008 8:39 AM

Ba Joseph and fellow blogger s, it has been a nice season, very good topics and contributions and of course those that talk nonsense to spice it all up, the season for me has been one of mixed feelings, and inconsistencies are above, with my new found “love” Lusaka Power Dynamos, LOL and sadly Nkana is gone, what a division one north it will be, Bravo, Kalampa and mighty, katwishi, i will definitely travel for the biggest match of them all Nkana Vs Mighty Mufulira Wanderers, i can assure you this will be a great match to watch. To you all i wish Gods Blessings and lets continue to share the valuable knowledge through out the off season, enough transfer rumors already watch this space
