Chris Katongo started on the bench, coming on as a substitute for the third consecutive week for Arminia Bielefeld in their 1-1 draw at Hanover 96. He spent most of his 7 minutes on the field down the right-hand side, but was unable to provide the game changing spark that was needed. He recorded no shots on net, but was guilty of one foul.
The struggling club was lucky to hang on to the lone point as they were outpossesed by a margin of 61% to 39%. It has been a tough first half of the season for ‘The Tsunami’ in the Bundesliga having only a single goal at the end of August to show on the stat sheet. Bielefeld will hope to regroup heading into the winter break, following a string of three games without a victory, leaving them one point out of relegation territory.

It was a much different story in the south of the country when FC Augsburg hosted Aleminia Aachen. Recent national team recalled midfielder Andrew Sinkala was in his adapted position of central defender to start the match. The Chingola-native came into the game with something to prove, and showed why he was once in the system at Bayern Munich.
Right on the stroke of half-time, a corner from the left flag was redirected by Sinkala at the top of the box with his right foot, he was unlucky to miss the target.
The game didn’t get going until the second half, Augsburg going ahead in the 48th minute. They would double their lead three minutes later after a corner kick was not dealt with by the Aachen defense, the ensuing scramble saw the ball come loose in the 6 yard box. Sinkala was there with his left foot to bury it past the goalkeeper, his first goal with his new club.
In addition to the offensive flair, Sinkala was an anchor on defense. Aachen’s lone goal was from a header in the 81st minute, the match finished 3-1. Sinkala did committ 4 fouls, and received a yellow card in the 79th minute, his 5th of the season.
Heading into the winter break, FC Augsburg have won five matches in a row, and are unbeaten since the first week of October. They are in sixth position (based on goal differential), but are only 4 points behind league leaders Mainz 05.

In the 3. Bundesliga, Moses Sichone also started on the backline for VFR Aalen as they played host to SpVgg Unterhaching. The hosts conceeded a goal in the 7th minute, but answered back in the 29th minute, however Anton Fink notched his second of the game 5 minutes before half-time with a penalty kick. Aalen responded yet again, leaving it late to the 84th minute to find an equalizer. Yet again, they were unable to stop Anton Fink, who finished off his hat-trick in the 86th minute, with what proved to be the winner.
Sichone received a yellow card in the 50th minute for a dangerous foul.
Aalen are in 14th place in the table, heading into the winter break.

In the Coupe de France, Berrichone Chataeuroux faced a scare at home against 5th tier Amateur club US Chauny. Despite only being ahead 1-0 at half-time, the homeside opened up the second half with a flurry of goals. Mathieu Scarpelli added two to his first-half tally to complete the hat-trick, and Momar N’Diaye notched another, making the score a comfortable 4-0 in only the 60th minute. Scarpelli’s second came from a nice set-up by Jacob Mulenga (who played the entire match).
The amatuer club started to create more pressure and chances, finally breaking onto the score sheet in the 82nd minute. Five minutes later, they were able to find another marker, and in the 94th minute, they made the scoreline look ultimately respectable at 4-3.
Felix Katongo came on as a second half substitute for N’Diaye.
Berrichonne will now face fellow Ligue 2 club Vannes OC in the Round of 64.

I’m confident if Mayuka keeps getting game time the penny will drop and he’ll be scoring plenty of goals. He has to much experience even for a young lad, but he just needs a little time to get to grips with his surroundings.

So the pitches in Zambia are not bad, the picture above is Kalukungu statdium.
Mabbwana on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 11:13 AM
Seen from afar, you are right. The good thing is that he has broken into 1st team and is actually holding a the position.
What has happened to Jacob, a dry spell again? I hope these guys will start scoring again. We cant continue having our strikers firing blanks week in week out.
As for Chris, its a sad development. Now the coach is slowly losing te confidence he initially had in him. He should continue working hard and we keep our fingers crossed that they dont get the chop.
Congrats to Sinkala for the goal. I would love to see him playing in his new found role.

AS is a chicken and an egg the same. Are telling me that you and a sperm are the same
veep on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 12:44 PM
Ok guys, the issue of sperm and a person is interesting
well infrustracture include playing surface, goal posts, terances, entrance, penalt spot(eleven do), the eighteen box, centre line marking, the nets, the dressing room, the balls, the whistle, referee attire, the teams jersey, the boats, the transport to and from, you can also include whether you sell opec beer inside or not
As for Kalukungu, it depend whether the grass used is kapinga, artificial or elephant grass, provided the ball can move smoothly and players don’t get injuries when sliding tackle
IS THAT MAYUKA? HE LOOKS VERY SMALL, REAL ZAMBIA BREED
Mwana Wa Musanga on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 2:02 PM
Veep we lasa monko.
AS on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 2:51 PM
Anonymous,
Stop insulting. All you need to tell us is what you mean by ‘the surface is not bad but the infrastructures’. For your info, the playing surface is a part of the stadia infrastructure. The walls, dressing rooms, seats and the playing surface is what forms a stadium infrastructure. So, what do you mean by the playing surface not being bad but the walls of the stadium or seats are the ones that are bad? I thought football is played on the surface in the first instance and thats’ why FIFA has endeavoured to donate artificial turfs under the goal mellenium project because the playing surfaces in Zambian stadia is bad.
That’s not to say we do not need new stadia in Zambia. The whole ‘INFRASTRUCTURES’, sorry to borrow your term, needs to be overhauled over time.
Mwana Wa Musanga on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 3:10 PM
Veep, kindly leave it at that brother. No need to go ahead. Anonymous go back to class and learn English. No such word as ‘Infrastructures’ in the Queen ‘s language. Learn and grow up kiddo.
chipolopolo 1 on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 5:56 PM
hello all good to be Back from the Sadc Games With the Under 20 teams……!!! Zamfoot clifford mulenga Scoerd a Goal for his side over the weekend …
from kickoff.com
Bidvest Wits held off a late Bloemfontein Celtic fight-back to claim a 2-1 Absa Premiership victory at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
A Marawaan Bantam penalty and Clifford Mulenga goal put Wits into a commanding 2-0 lead, but a late Petrus Mahlatsi strike brought Celtic back into it with just minutes remaining on the clock.
Matafwali on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 7:20 PM
You did great work Chipolopolo 1. Thanks to you and the many contributors on this blog who go the extra mile to keep us informed.
Anonymous on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 7:45 PM
As you say that ” I thought football is played on the surface ” why are you crying for the Grandstand to be rebuilt at independence stadium. If it is the surface that is important then let us eraze all stadiums in Zambia and leave on the playing surface
Footballer on Tue, 16th Dec 2008 10:48 PM
Iwe ka Anonymous, your head is confused, stop onfusing people. Just go back to school mwana.
Big Steve from SA on Wed, 17th Dec 2008 8:01 AM
Hey Anonymous please drop it, that argument is so stale its got fungus on it.
Yes Cliford finally opened his account at Wits. Funny though the coach mentions that he is expecting Clifford to be in Europe soon. Picked up on any Kachepa on this Zamfoot??
Good to know Sinkala is shining in his new role, but I still think defensive mid is were we need to use him in Chipolopolo colours.
Zamfoot I see you have not given anything on the South African contingent.
Sad to see no Zambian in the top ten top scorers in the PSL so far this season. think maybe for the past couple of years I have just become accustomed to seeing a Zambian fighting for the golden boot. Anyway many more ames and seasons to go.
Sibs on Wed, 17th Dec 2008 9:33 AM
Sinkala’s new role reminds me of the great Lothar Matthaeus the former Germany captain who once played in midfield & at a later stage in his career played as a Centre back.He was equally good at the back as he was in midfield.
Ashios Melu also is one good example. All the best to Andrew.
Any one with news on R.Kalaba.?
Veep Mayuka is not as small as you think he is actually very physical for his age.Though he is not tall just average but he can hold the ball.
Mwana Wa Musanga on Wed, 17th Dec 2008 10:29 AM
Anonymous,
It is ‘Stadia’ not ‘Stadiums’ and ‘Erase’ not ‘Eraze’! You see why people are saying you go back to the desk?
