Clifford: My dream is to play in La Liga

South African Premier Soccer League side Wits have admitted they are resigned to losing young Zambia winger Clifford Mulenga to Europe soon.

Clifford Mulenga was named Africa’s best young player last year after a stand-out display in the FIFA World Youth Championship in Canada and has already played in Europe on loan with Swedish club Orgryte.

In January, a move to Israeli club Maccabi Petach Tikva fell through.

“Clifford will not be staying here for long as he would soon be back in Europe,” disclosed Wits coach Roger da Sa.

“He’s an exciting prospect with a great left foot.”

The 21-year-old winger himself has expressed hope he will play in Europe soon with the Spanish Primera Division his preferred destination.

“My dream is to play in La Liga because I like the football being played there as well as the techniques of the players. I know I will get there soon,” said the player, who has been compared to the legendary Zambian ace Kalusha Bwalya.

Ok Clifford, thats sounds good. I hope the guy can get a move to Spain by January. We need as many Zambian players as possible playing in europe. How I wish some of our defenders too can have prospects of playing in europe. This is to have a balanced team.

Good prospect!.Work hard Clifford, and remember that ‘you can do it!’

This is the spirit, dream big and believe.
I like the fact that he is not settled with what he has got and knows they are bigger thigs out there. Way too many players get settled in the PSL and start losing the fight to achieve bigger things.

Way to go Clifford, with your performances so far I dont think a move to Europe will be very far fetched, we all know you have what it takes.

Billy I feel you on the defenders, but the sad fact is when Europe look for a defender from Africa, they always look at size. It has been boxed down to this unfortunately thats why Central and Southern Africa does not have numbers they should have in Europe defender wise. Our brothers from other mothers in west Africa always have a huge advantage in this regard.
If you look at the few that have gone to make it it is always big boys, Elijah Litana, Aron Mokoena etc.
    Sad but true.

I agree Big Steve, SA. What more can I say.

Big dreams indeed! It is the only way to the top, There is no accident it starts with self believe then all doors will be ajar.

Good luck Cliff after watching you play for wits I think you are capable of playing for a big team especially in Spain where your style would best be compatible.

    Good dream Criford,
Let us have a closer look at criford
Criford can not switch to play any other position other than left. In Europe, most teams are changing the style to playing like an octopus, unless you are a left footed defender, again, if you are central defender, you must be able to play left, right and center using both legs

Criford, you must start now training to swith positions, esp. that you are a midfielder, otherwise you will find it hard to break in big guys in europe. Plus your displine boy, is the key

Kalaba will if he remain displined break into big guys soon because he can play left, right and center, the only problem is his body size.

To me, this is his disadvantage. But good luck

Zambian players breaking in big leagues, kaya. If its not small body size, then its being over-weight. If its not just using one leg, then its lack of form, fitness problems or discipline. I am not a pessimist, but this is a reality with Zambian players. Twanaka mwe. Even team like DRC, Rwanda etc have some players in major leagues of the world. Maybe Kola and Mayuka may eventually do it. But not at the moment.

I like the challenge on Clifford; living upto Kalu’s record. Good luck and you have a mountain to climb. Already you hold the African Young Player of the year record which was once held by Eto’o. Good start.

The way i look at this guy,he has the potentail to become a star either in europe or anywhere else. But wht i often wonder is the fact that certain chaps i do doubt of their talents. We had e.g Emmanuel Zulu and we were proud of the fellow but wht came out of him evn up to now i do not know exactly.Much as I may be proud of this guy am still worried on whether he will match Kalu.Anyway am just hoping that he may have disclipline which is the key for success.Noti ukukula imitwe ne chilumba whenever they are wanted to play for zambia.

My young brother, remember the 3 hour chat we had in my office while i was Zambia (Lusaka) this year. Am now in Tanzania and will be in SA from Tuesday next week 12hrs lodging at Garden Court Morningside Rivonia Hotel up to Friday when i leave the hotel. If chance allows let’s share notes if you happen to see this posting and get a chance. In my opinion, fully grasp this opportunity as time isn’t on your side. Like i told you that day, you’re probably among the 3 most talented Zambian Players at the moment, but you need to maximise this.

Clifford is a very enterprising player and I feel he can make the grade out there. the only challenge are the agents who want to sell to any club offering anything without regard to the club history.
come on zambians, let’s venture into football business the way Hanif has done.

    all the very best clifford.
