In this week’s review, the Zamfoot crew takes a look at how the Zed players performed in the weekend and mid-week matches for their respective clubs. The leagues in Finland, Sweden and Angola ended early this month and some of the players who ply their trade in this countries are already in the country
Portugal
After featuring in Zambia’s 3-0 thumping by Morocco, Rainford Kalaba was omitted from Gil Vicente’s league match against Etorial Praia. The two teams drew 2-2.
France
Jacob Mulenga came on as second half substitute in Château roux’s 1-0 win over Saumur in a league cup after leading the line for Zambia in midweek.
Felix Katongo is still nursing his groin injury while Stophira Sunzu did not feature as he is training with the reserve team.
Germany
SC Paderborn O7 4-0 Aalen-third division
Moses Sichone had an off day as his club lost 4-0 to Andrew Sinkala’s former team. According to the player ratings, Sichone was poor. This was ‘Big Mo’ s worst performances this season
FC Augsburg 1-0 Kaiserlaurten-second division
Andrew Sinkala played as a makeshift centre-back and the former Nchanga Rangers had an average match at the heart of the defence.
Sinkala was used as a defender. Chipolopolo Boys trainer Herve Renard has confirmed he wants the 29 year old back in the Chipolopolo set up. Will Sinkala accept Renard’s call-up? Look out for Friday’s Kachepa on the ball.
This win was Augsburg’s fourth win in their last seven unbeaten matches which has seen them rise to tenth on the log from 14 matches played so far.
Augsburg has 18 points, 10 behind the leaders FSV Mainz. Prior to this unbeaten run it had only recorded one victory in its first matches.
Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen- Bundesliga
After playing 90 minutes for Zambia against Morocco on Wednesday night, Chris Katongo was back in the starting line-up for his club.
He was deployed in a more central position just behind the club-leading scorer who has banged in 10 goals this season. After a below par show in the first half from the staff sergeat, the Bielefeld coach decided to rest the him at half time.
His replacement Halfar grabbed the winning goal of the match as Bielefeld registered their first win in over 10 matches.
Israel
Justine Zulu is still injured. The 19 year old is expected to resume training in 10 days time.
The Wardrobe is on the sidelines nursing a thigh injury.
Emmanuel Mayuka wasn’t involved over the weekend as there were no reserve/youth games in Israel
After failing to win the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday Fwayo Tembo’s Etoile du sahel have sacked their coach and appointed a German-born coach Rohr. Rohr tied up a three year deal.
Fwayo came on in the 39th minute for the desert foxes after failed to win the cup on away goal rule after being held to 2-2 draw by CS Saxfien.
South Africa
Kennedy Mweene was impressive in goal as he made world-class saves to deny the Sundowns strikers a match-winning goal.
Collins Mbesuma did not play.
Kalililo Kakonje started in goal for Amazulu while Chintu Kampamba was used as a makeshift midfielder in coach Clive Barker’s 4-5-1 formations.
On the other side, Noah Chivuta came on a late substitute for Supersport while Davies Nkausu was unused substitute.
Linos Chalwe came on as a second half substitute but could nothing as his club lost to the urban Warriors.
Is Clifford Mulenga injured? He has so far missed Wits’ last two league matches
Elsewhere on Saturday in the PSL, Clifford Mulenga (BidVest Wits), Joseph Musonda and Francis Chileshe Kombe (Both G.Arrows) missed their club’s league matches.
Wits lost 4-1 to Kaizer Chiefs while Golden Arrows
Bloem Celtic 0-0 Supersport United
Noah Chivuta finally started for Supersport united a league match in the engine room. Chivuta played for 85 minutes before he was replaced.
International teammate Davies Nkausu did not make the bench for United.
Francis Kombe and Joseph Musonda were back in Arrows’ starting line up unfortunately Arrows lost to chiefs.
Chintu Kampamba was missing in the Amazulu line-up. Kakonje conceded two goals. In his last three matches for both club and country, Kakonje has conceded seven goals within a space of 8 days.
Linos Chalwe again started the match on the bench.
Kennedy Mweene was in goal in Free State Stars’ goalless stalemate against Platinum Stars while Mbesuma missed Sundowns v Orlando Pirates clash which also ended in another goalless stalemate.
Clifford Mulenga missed his second successive match for BidVest Wits. On Wednesday Wits lost 2-1 to Ajax. Since featuring for Zambia 8 days ago in Morocco, the left footed winger is yet to play for his club.
Apologise for bringing the Zambian Players Abroad on Thursday as opposed to Tuesday. Look out for Friday’s Kachepa on the Ball. The Q & A to Great Kalu will be forwarded to him as soon as he gets back. Kalu has been a bit tied up off late.

Whilst our players are fabling El Hadji is shining at Pompey, Mido has regained his form at Boro and Zaki….well, we all all the story.
Ba Ole on Fri, 28th Nov 2008 2:17 AM
The round makes bleak reading. Need for us to get new blood I guess. I am not so sure Zambia should continue with the current crop. maybe we should rely on the youngsters.

ba fan # 1 its be should Noah Chivuta.
Am sure Sinkala will peach up. …unless FAZ just want to play a fast one on us.
Its also good to know Renard has listen to the people’s call and I hope he wont be making those silly excuses like ”I did know that Chivuta cant play as a defender” thats so unprofessional. What is training for?
Justice Kafusha on Fri, 28th Nov 2008 6:55 AM
DaMweiinger El Hadji is from Senegal, so it does not matter if he shines. And by the way our focus should be on our players and not those from Egypt. One thing I have to say on this blog is that the team that will qualify to SA2010 is not the the team that whose players are shinning at their clubs, but it is the team the that will avoid injuries to key members of the squad as well as suspensions through play without thinking (Yellow and Red cards). These factors will play a role as well, as far as I know

I foresee Rwanda springing up a surprise in this group. Watch this space.

#12 was Chansa. Don’t forget he was not match fit after nursing an injury.
Bantu on Fri, 28th Nov 2008 7:37 AM
MartyUSA, Chansa did not travel to Morocco in the 3-0 bashing as he excused himself just after recovering from injury. Why then say #12 was Chansa? Bushe mufumya kwisa data imo imwe guys?
Justice Kafusha on Fri, 28th Nov 2008 8:47 AM
What is this with #12, has he committed a crime or ?
cHIPOLOPOLO FAN #1 on Fri, 28th Nov 2008 9:10 AM
No Justice Kafusha, no crime was committed. I just really liked he crosses and the free kick he took, I was streaming it from an Arab site so the names were no mentioned but he played a great game.

our players should realise that they playing professional football, puting up below par perfroamnce is not good for them and the country.we depend so much on chris and reports coming up are not so nice to hear.i feel maybe most of our players are not ready for the big leagues.why cant they take advantage of the leagues in belgium,netherlands,poland,j-league in japan, franch and the rest just to prepare them for the big league

Pablo the guy from Argentina good to have you on this site.Pablo what do you think of Diego Maradona’s appointment as the Coach of your National team? I personally think he’s the best player i have ever watched play Soccer the guy was amazing with the ball at his feet.Never seen anything like that it’s like the ball used to get stuck on his left foot.
Do you think he will make a good Coach as he was when he was playing?

Thanks Zamfoot. Please accept my apologies. I like your site and I promise to be a good blogger. Cheers

ba zamfoot Jonas Sakuwaha was wearing jersey # 20 but am sure thats the guy fan # 1 wants to know. # 12 Was responsible for the 1st goal
Joseph Chimpampwe on Sat, 29th Nov 2008 11:45 AM
Guys,
That’s why i tell you to be watching the local league. Number 12 abako Chansa who didnt play, then bambi batubepako ati ni Noah Chivuta. Thanks Zamfoot, Sakuwaha has always impressed me with his darting runs though he at times tends to be eccentric. He moved from Zamtel Social as they were called then to ZESCO.
Ba Kafusha this time you didn”t do justice. Even in business, a competitor analysis is good. Remember the old adage “Umwana ashenda atasha nina ukwipika”-hoping someone won’t bring the modern technology trash here! Like i tell you, our Pros are only better than our local players and not their peers because they get content with low key achievements. Seydou Keita played at the youth world cup before 1999 where Sinkala was, yet the former has been ascending yet ours desecends. Independence stadium was built in 30 days in 1964 while its grand stand has taken more than 2years i think-FOOD FOR THOUGHT and some technology
jc on Sat, 29th Nov 2008 1:32 PM
Thanks Zamfoot for the number 12 update. I have watched Jonas Sakuwaha several times in the league and always wondered why he was being snubbed at national level. He is one of the few players on the local scene who has the brains of football. He just requires a bit of polishing by the coaches and he will make it. I hope that HR can use him more.

what is the problem with players like mbesuma, chris and others who don’t seem to be utilising the oppotunity they have been given to play at good clubs. the problem we have with zambian players is that oppotunities come their way but they don’t utilise them. am especially worried with Chris katongo because if he does not improve, he risks ending up like mbesuma. not all is lost but our players must begin to assert themselves at their clubs. chris was doing well at brondby, a team which is currently sitting 3rd in the Danish league and in with a big chance to win the league and also paticipate in the champions league. it’s good that chris went to german but one would have thought that probably he may have lost a bit by leaving brondby
Patty Kasonde on Wed, 3rd Dec 2008 6:07 PM
just a correction. Chris Katongo’s former team, Brondy is currently topping the Danish league. will chris consider joining his former club should things fail to go well at his current club in German?
