Zambia hold DR Congo

November 16, 2008

Zambia national soccer team was on Saturday afternoon held to a goalless stalemate by Democratic Republic of Congo in Lubambashi in an international friendly.

The Chipolopolo Boys trainer Herve Renard gave almost each and every member of his travelling squad a run out.

This year’s revealation and top flight debutant Kebby Hachipuka is seen by many pundits as the ideal national team anchorman. Hachi made earned his full international cap in September against Togo.

After the match, Renard told The Times of Zambia in an interview that he was pleased with his lads.

“For 90 minutes we played the ball on the ground and the Congolese couldn’t match.

Four players earned their first international cap and these are Kabwe Warriors duo of Maunga Kabuku and Metuselah Chipuppu. Other are under 20 and 17 international left backs Luka Tembo and Emmanuel Mbola.

Zambia was using this match to prepare for Ivory Coast 2009 CHAN qualifier against the Palancas Negras of Angola in a fortnight time in Luanda.

How they line up:

1st Half

Formation: 4-4-2

Rabson Mucheng’anga-Joseph Zimba, Elijah Tana, Hichani Himonde, Emmanuel Mbola-Kennedy Mudenda, Francis Kasonde, Lottie Phiri, Maunga Kabuka- Jonas Sakuwaha, Felix Sunzu Jr

2nd Half

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Jacob Banda, Joseph Zimba, Elijah Tana, Hichani Himonde, Luka Tembo- Kebby Hachipuka, Whiteson Simwanza- Jonas Sakuwaha, William Njobvu, Metuselah Chipupu- Christopher Musonda

Meanwhile one of Zambianfootball.net’s contributors, Mabbwana reports from Kitwe that he meant assistant coach George Lwandamina this morning and had a good chat with the Green Buffaloes mentor.

According to Mabbwana, the coach confirmed that Andrew Sinkala is being considered by the technical bench for upcoming games though he has been ruled out this Wednesday’s friendly against Morocco in Rabat.

Lwandamina together with Herve Renard, Patrice Beamulle and other supporting members of the Chipolopolo set up are scheduled to leave today.

Rising star Kebby Hachipuka, defensive trio of Tana, Himonde and Kasonde as well as towering striker Sunzu Jr are the only local based players that has been included in an 18-man nearly full strength squad to face the Atlas Lions.

Three key players have already being excused and these are Isaac Chansa, James Chamanga and Felix Katongo. Skipper Chris Katongo might also not make the trip after his Germany club Arminia Bielefeld is believed to have asked the Football Association of Zambia, FAZ to grant him permission to stay behind.

Mabbwana, thanx for the infor on Sinkala. What is the problem with Arminia Bielefeld??.November 19 is a FIFA day for friendlies.Big clubs like Bayern Munich will realese players to play for Germany on the same day, but because Katongo is from Zambia they think its not neccesary for him to come & play for his country??.FAZ should be firm & stop this nosense.

Ba Jimmy, point well taken but we cannot be DEMANDING for things when we don’t pay anything towards Zamfoot’s effort. But you have a point in admonishing Zamfoot to look out for competitors. With time, I am sure most of the regulars (myself included) will be willing to subscribe to this site should Zamfoot decide to go that way. And if indeed that is Zamfoot’s intention, there is need for them to put their house in order.

Zamfoot, if you have a system where you have to register to comment (like in the forum), then that would stop these pesky spammers putting spam (advert links) on the blog. At least i think it would.

So we played well, but no goals. Come on now, that means we must play much better. Let’s go guys!

I also believe Zamfoot can do better than the current rate of efficiency. Why should Lusaka times and South African media repport almost 24hrs earlier than the custodians themselves? Its not a matter of contributing financial towards their services but rather performance output should be encouraged. Zamfoot need to demonstrate to soccer fans that its capable of going commercial such that customers will be encouraged to pay for this important service in the near future. We stand for your support.

Points well taken bloggers and i am happy that we are appreciating the efforts of Zamfoot, as we have let us all continue to support them, rome was not built in one day but look at it now, i am not making excuses for zamfoot but rather saying that zamfoot you have heard the people cry, i understand the demands that have to be met to keep this site running and as such only offer my support and contribution when needed, like i have always said, we are the stake holders of zambian soccer and it is up to us to move things in the direction we want them to go.

Gents cut the guys some slack, this is free remember and they are currently doing it part time. Rome was not built in a day so instead of puting it in Zamfoots face that the news came late why not throw in sugestions on how to get it through earlier. Some consider it small but in all honesty what Zamfoot is doing here (though can be better) is still really amaizing especially for us who are not at home and have to rape the net to get any news on Zambian soccer.

I am not sure if this score line is good or bad but the good thing is that all the players got game time.

Zambians are very critical people. Zamfoot is ok. Lusaka times and Zamfoot are better than Post, Daily Mail, Times of Zambia. Ever you ever been to the ZDM and Times website-they are not updated. Zamfoot provides critical information. They are not Superspot or BBC, they are just innovitive Zambians trying to track Zambian football and the news id for free. Thanks Zamfoot.

    Thanks Chamwe, well said

Jimmy, positive critism is what we need to make progress but we should understand the prevailing situation for our criticisism to make sense.Like what Chimwe has said, sometimes Zambians are just too critical we don’t take time to appeciate our fellow Zambian’s efforts even for the little they achieve.I say so coz Zamfoot has brought a unique forum to the Zambian fans where we can get infor & share our views on Zambian soccer. We can now even comment on team selection long before the squard goes into camp & even know about our players abroad. We must recognise the contribution Zamfoot is making & bring ideas that will assist the guys behind the site to serve us better.BIG UP ZAMFOOT

Mabwaana thanks for the grape vine information Sinkala is the only player from old guards abroad I have always believed still has something to offer to our national team.

Zamfutball you are doing great for us fans and if there could be any fundraising ventures you can come up to help you even do better Iam sure most of us fans would be willing to help.

  12. Onzuna on Mon, 17th Nov 2008 2:16 PM

We need to be assured that Sinkala will be tested in the next-upcoming friendly. Not just cooling us by saying;he shall be considered. We also want the coach to have look at players in Scandinavian Coutries(Boyd,Edwin,Mweetwa,& others). We need players who have been cooked for this campaign.

  13. Matafwali on Mon, 17th Nov 2008 7:51 PM

    Thanks Mabbwana for the scoop.

I have enjoyed the discussion on how to improve Zamfoot and I think everyone is making a good point. I agree more with those who are calling for improved services. I recognize the challenges that Zamfoot folks are facing. The question then is, how can we help to bring the improvements to a head?

Seen from afar, are most (if not all) of these adverts in this site spam? Zamfoot, will definitely need to implement measures to prevent this or at a minimum get paid for it!

Ba Willie, you make a good point. It is hard to understand why so many good players have for some inexplicable reason been sidelined. It might be just be a case of comparing “apples and oranges” I suppose.

My comment is that football stories involving Zambian teams and the league should always be first on Zamfoot before they are out on Lusaka Times and other local websites at least.

Zamfoot should not go the way of subscription as Zambian are not yet ready for such online commitments but they should at least look to advertisement and sponsorships e.g. from the sponsors of the local league. If GTV wins the deal to sponsor the league, Zamfoot should rush to GTV for partnerships.

Soo we should also be seeing Zamfoot doing a facelift so we can watch hihglights by video and the like.

But like others have said, we the supports should do more by writing stories, reporting for Zamfoot and even contributing internet access, equipment, funds and time.
