Great Kalu: Get inspiration from past,

October 31, 2008

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Kalusha Bwalya has implored the national team to draw inspiration from Zambia’s past performance against Egypt as the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers get underway next March.

Kalusha said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the Christopher Katongo-captained side could take positives from Zambia’s past victories over the Pharaohs.

He said Zambia has beaten Egypt several times although the latter has a big share of success.

“We beat Egypt 1-0 at the 1992 Africa Cup in Senegal, we won 3-1 in South Africa in the quarter-finals and recently we drew 1-1 in Kumasi.

We can learn a lot from the past games,” said Kalusha, who scored the only goal when Zambia beat Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations preliminary round match in Senegal.

He said Egypt were beatable with the right attitude.
Kalusha said there was no need to fear Egypt but only respect them.

“They have Mohammad Aboutrika and Mido who have made Egypt a good team. As we play them next March in Cairo in front of over 100,000 people, we have to settle down quickly to get a positive result,” Kalusha said.

Zambia will be away to Egypt on March 28 and will host the Pharaohs on October 10.

Algeria and Rwanda are the other teams in Group C.

Kalusha, who donned the Zambian jersey 103 times and scored 53 goals, said the Chipolopolo would not have it easy against Algeria and Rwanda.

“We have not played Algeria at the senior level for a long time but we played them at the under-23 level in 2004. Rwanda is also a strong time. We have to die a little in all the games and fight for three points,” he said.

Kalusha said homeground record would determine Zambia’s direction in the qualifiers.

“We have to play to win at home,” said the 1988 African-footballer-of-the-year.

The winners of the five groups will qualify for the World Cup while the top three in all the groups will battle it out at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Angola.[Zambia Daily Mail]

Eyes on the ball indeed, we can only beat Egypt when we have the right attitude. Lets all focus our eyes on the ball and not names of players we will be facing in Egypt.

We need not leave any stones unturned as we prepare for the world cup qualifiers. To the eyes on the ball team, pliz lets play serious friendly games against formidable North African teams as we prepare and not amateur teams from Europe or worse still teams from neighbouring countries that have nothing to prepare for as the trend has been in the recent past. Otherwise good luck to our National Team.

Good vibes Mr.President.We can also go far by giving a chance to players in Scandinavia Mr.President.The guys in South Africa only C.Mulenga & K.Mweene are starting games week in & week out.Now we hear that C.Mulenga won’t be called and the guys who are sitting on the bench are going to be called.
What wrong have guys like B.Mwila,E.Phiri,Steven Kunda etc done ba Kalu come on a lot of us hold you in high esteem.Give these boys a chance to show the coach what they can do.

The South African PSL i personally think it is not better than the Swedish league. Nishi kashi, is it the money that is holding Faz to fly in these players? May be the feel it is cheaper to bring players from S.A someone in Faz help us.Like most of the regular guys on the blog have said all we asking is for the Coach to asses the players & make up his mind.
Why keep looking at the same guys.On Clive Hanchilensa it is even better not to comment. We tired of singing the same song day after day ba Faz.

Ba Kalu yes we have to play to win at home but we need the best 11 players the Nation has.

Its not only player attitude that will win games for us it is also FAZ’s attitude towards the preparations. Camping in Spain is good but lets go out there and play proper teams not select sides with some players being drawn from Div 3. On player selcetion we see that FAZ has the hardest head and sadly have spread this disease to HR. So it seems with all the cries the Boyd Mwilas and Sinkalas will not be assesed and the Hhachilenses will continue to embarras us.

Kalu well said. But you as FAZ leader should ensure that the team is well prepared. Call all deserving players and avoid fan grudges with certain players. This is no time to settle old scores. Let the team play good friendlies with stronger opposition on and off FIFA dates. Prepare the players psychologically and reward them handsomely. With these issues in place, I see no reason why we cant make it our maiden WC in RSA 2010.

Fellas you keep going on as though Kalu has personnal vendettas against the likes of a certain players when it is well documented how disruptive some guys are. How can one assert that the FAZ has an agenda when when he never spends time with Kalu or his team. Lets stop this witch hunt and mere speculation or else we will never get anywhere. If anything I think some fans are either jealous or bear resentment, period. I will support Kalu and his team and Chipolopolo 4eva. God bless Zambia. We are marching forward. Go Kalu we luv you!!!!!!!!!!!!
