International midfielder Rainford ‘Genius’ Kalaba was on score sheet for his club on Saturday to propel Gil Vicente fc to a 3-2 win over CD Santa Clara in the Portuguese second division (Liga Vitalis).
The ‘Genius’ celebrating his goal in the Portuguese Cup….last year, ‘Kaka-balika’ scored 26 goals in all competitions from midfield for Zesco United.
Kalaba put Vicente in front in the 37th minute but six minutes later league leaders Santa Clara equalised courtesy of a Neto strike. Gil Vicente’s Brazilian striker Igor Souza restored the caution to 2-1 in the 72nd minute.

With Vicente heading for victory, Santa Clara’s Vouho stunned the home team when he equalised in the 87th minute to make it 2-2. Souza, who scored a brace last week in the third round of the Portuguese cup (Kalaba also scored the first goal in that match) did his magic when he snatched a late winner to send Gil Vicente to fifth on the log and a point behind Santa Clara.
Gil Vicente is the only team unbeaten in the second division after winning two and drawing four matches.
Last week the 2007 Zambian player of the Year was also on the score sheet. Since making his loan switch from division one club, Sporting Braga, Kalaba has scored three goals for Gil Vicente including a debut goal.

As a Gil Vicente Fan I can say I’m very impressed with this kid’s talent. He started in the bench, but now he is playing very well from the beginning and I hope he can continue with his awesome form. I’m sad that he is a loaned player for Gil Vicente, because we will miss him next year.
Cheers from Portugal, Barcelos.

Great work Kalaba. Our players just need the opportunity to showcase their skills.
Ba DeMwiinger, I though Kalaba sat out the whole match against Cameroon. I don’t remember him coming off the bench. He certainly was our best player at AFCON, at least in my opinion.

Andre in Portugal , will keep an eye on the Kalaba and let us as know from first hand data. Braga might change their minds soon.

Jefcooll…just for the record kalaba is not short he’s like 5’10″. NOW GUYS CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH TWO THINGS THAT CONFIRM HOW UNORGANISED OUR FAZ IS (OR IS IT JUST ZAMBIANS IN GENERAL).:
1) WE CAN NOT BUY ORIGINAL ZAMBIAN SOCCER JERSEY UNLIKE TEAMS LIKE GHANA AND NIGERIA, EVEN THE LIKES OF BENIN HAVE THEM ONLINE, IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ME I AM WILLING TO PAY $60 AND UP FOR ONE……PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) WHY AREN’T WE GETTING PLAYERS LIKE KAKUTA TO CONSIDER PLAYING FOR US. I MEAN IT IS WORTH TRYING. OTHER COUNTRIES DO IT AND NOT JUST THEIR ASSOCIATIONS LOOK AT STEPHEN APPIAH TRYING TO TALK TO THE YOUNG MILLAN STAR BARLOTTI, ITS ALL ABOUT THE WHOLE NATION BEING SERIOUS. DOES ANYONE HAVE THE NUMBER TO FAZ I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO SOMEONE THERE.
Jimbo on Tue, 28th Oct 2008 8:10 AM
Big up to Kalaba. Keep it up, you could be the next Cristiano Ronaldo or Kaka, only God knows….

Chipolopolo – FAZ No. +260211250940.
1. Firstly, the jersey itself comes as a tshirt here and then the zambian flag and logo are put on them and so if you dont get it from source you are likely to have a wrong replica, unfortunately faz is to blame for lack of replicas for the national team, when it comes to clubs, my blame is placed on the executives who more often than not are mere chancers out to make a quick buck and not to improve the status of the clubs, hopefully that will not be the case next season, watch this space.
2. Based on what you have explained, unlike Ghana where players have a say, its not the case in zambia, the player is a mere employee whose thoughts dont matter, infact threats have been issued to those who speak out, so unless u are part of the so called inner circle, we shall see the Boyd Mwila, mweetwa’s, Hangunyu’s and those not affiliated to our current faz leadership on the sidelines
jeff windhoek on Tue, 28th Oct 2008 8:27 AM
If that number iz true im going to faz before lunch so that someone can explain certain issues to this forum suc as HR personal issues wit sinkala
Spaks on Tue, 28th Oct 2008 8:34 AM
The number is true and let me even pre-empt your visit
1. They will tell you the GS is in a meeting
2. The President is out
3. Eric Mwanza is preparing to go to south africa if he has not already left.
The current status at Faz is as follows
a) The president is never there if he is he is too busy to see anyone
b) The Veep is toothless e.g the Chris kaunda issue
c) in the absence of the prez the power is with GS and the media consultant.
So in short goodluck

Umwaiche “mubi”.One thing that amazes me is Kalaba’s ability to shoot with either feet.He can smack them even from 40 yards or 35 yards one thing guys bigger than him can’t do.
All the best.
ENOCK SIMUKONDE on Tue, 28th Oct 2008 10:17 AM
Thumbs up to Kalaba.
Its good headache for HR, who does he choose, between Rainford and Isaac in the attacking midfield role?
Ba Ole on Tue, 28th Oct 2008 10:31 AM
Interesting to see kalaba using 20. I use that number all the time. 20 Legend all the way!
