Mayuka transfer saga…Porto or Macabi Tev aviv?
Last week, Zambianfootball.net put a hint (Mayuka v Kola) that Emmanuel Mayuka might have signed a two year deal for Israeli giants, Maccabi Tev Aviv.
Though Kabwe Warriors are yet to confirm the deal, which is, believed to be worth $50, 0000, Zambianfootball.net crew can confirm and reveal that the 17-year-old striker has actually put pen to paper.
Mayuka has told close friends that he wanted to play for Porto but with the way things have twisted, Will he feature for them?
And according to reports from Israel, the Football Association of Zambia, FAZ have already cleared the player (International Transfer Certificate, ITC has been sent by FAZ) to start featuring for Macabi Tev Aviv.
When contacted last week, Kabwe Warriors officials denied and expressed ignorance about the reports.
However, why are they not confirming the Macabi Tev Aviv deal?
It is simple, Portuguese giants FC Porto tabled a new offer last month and both Kabwe Warriors and Porto reached an agreement.
In fact, Zambianfootball.net understands and can confirm that two Kabwe Warriors officials did sign the contract which is modeled from South American type of deal-mostly used in that region when a player is heading for Europe.
In the deal, Porto will pay an initial fee of 140, 000 euros to Warriors with both parties having 50% economical rights.
In addition, it was agreed that Porto have an exclusive and first option to purchase the other 50% at a fee of 110, 000 Euros. Meaning, Porto was going to sign Mayuka at 250, 000 Euros for two years.
According to a highly placed source in the Kabwe Warriors executive, there is also a clause should Porto sell Mayuka to another club before 2013, the Kabwe based team is entitled to 20% of transfer fee.
“The problem is that Mayuka has now signed for that Israel side but we are yet to sign the deal though FAZ has already sent the ITC.
“We wanted to use the Israel trials to auction Mayuka and the day the boy left for trials to Israel, that’s when the offer from Porto arrived,” the source said.
“The Porto offer is definitely a good deal…the best ever for a Zambian player. And it’s the reason why the bosses are failing to come out in the open to confirm that the boy has actually signed for Macabi Tev Aviv,’’ the source added.
According to the source, Kabwe Warriors is hoping that maybe there is a slim chance that the teenage sensation can make his dream move to Porto.
What’s the way forward for Emmanuel Mayuka ? Have your Say

Let Mayuka go and play in Israel so that he can find first team place easily and mature quickly. Its better than sitting in the reserve side at Porto for all the games. If he plays well in Israel,he may stand a good chance of playing in bigger european leagues.Good luck to the boy…
My initial reaction was ukushishita but after reading what Daaram said, I totally agree with him. Mayuka has a better chance of developing a good player if he plays in Israel than at Porto where he will never see first team action. I think he should not rush for the cash, if he becomes a sensation in Israel, all the big clubs will be hunting for his signature especially after they hear that Porto was a serious contender, he will be on the radder for most of the top manager in Europe. That’s when you make the real bucks! Just go to Israel and get some game time. Take your time to develop your career, big clubs sometimes tend to ruin developing talent.
If this is what actually transpired, what I can’t understand is, why didn’t someone simply call Mayuka and tell him that Porto had tabled an offer? The boy could then make up his mind about what he wanted to do.
I dont think Mayuka has a chance of going to FC Porto. He has already signed and FAZ has cleared him and ITC sent. Its finished. Let him just go to Isreal for now. He is still young. He needs to have international exposure and Isreal is a good place. Its too late to go to Porto now.
When Warriors turned down the initial FC Porto’s offer for Mayuka I was one of the people who condemed them for their decision.I noticed that people at Warriors were lacking the negotiating ability & this was I even suggested that they seek advice from teams like Afrisports who have some experience in player transfer matters.Today Porto are back with a better offer & it appears Warriors never expected it ,hence the decision to send Mayuka to Israel.Warriors are now in a limbo coz it appears a reverse of their decision is impossible .Lets hope Mayuka wont do a DENNIS LOTA (signing for two clubs).Warriors executive please improve on your negotiating power.
It looks like Porto wanted to get the boy cheaply ($10,000) but when the heard that Maccabi Tel Aviv was signing the player the rushed back to better the deal.
Where were they all this time since the showed interest a long time?. Other wise this boy is a good investment for any team. Though it would be good for Emmanuel to build his career from a smaller team. But where does his heart lie? Israel or Portugal?
All the best Emma.
Dinamo is correct, this shows that Warriors are either inexperienced on transfer issues or are just useless at player management. I like what Whisper says, if the player was still sitting in a plane the day the offer came why was he not informed before hand, on landing for example, before he put pen to paper. I was one of the people that stood behind Warriors decision to reject the initial offer (it was ridiculus) but looking at how screwed up they seem to be handling this issue I am getting very concerned at what sort of player management happens at this club. The new offfer is good, not the best like the article mentions (Sinkala to Bayern was a better deal). With this new offer he should go to porto. If he is really the star we make him out to be then he will rise through the ranks in one of the Europes biggest but if he has already signed, Warriors should not fight it and leave him to play in Isreal.
Let mayuka play in isreal where he could get first team action than go to porto where he would be in reserves just like felix is at rennes. He is still young and maybe after two seasons or so he can then go to better team
Porto had definitely under rated Mayuka with their initial offer, its sad the boy might not get his dream move to Porto. Though as it stands now I would prefer the move to Porto, I guess he will have to do with the Israeli deal. Mayuka should just work hard as Porto will definitely follow his progress there and his dream move will then come his way if he continues on the ladder of good performance.
porto wanted to use emma for their own benefit knowng well how emma can be the force to recon with in future.porto hve great strikers from argetina and brazil which means emma will be warming the bench for the two years of his contract.Let the boy go to isreal so that porto shud know how weathy our footballers are.07 boys are doin so far, stophira france, fwayo tunisia, justin isreal, clifford bidvest and emma go …. boys ….go …..boys.
Porto forget , if Mayuka has signed with Maccabi and the ITC is in Israel hard luck too late.Honestly guyz if Warriors were still in negotiations with Porto , why then allow Mayuka go to Israel? Reasoning below is shallow,
The problem is that Mayuka has now signed for that Israel side but we are yet to sign the deal though FAZ has already sent the ITC.
“We wanted to use the Israel trials to auction Mayuka and the day the boy left for trials to Israel, that’s when the offer from Porto arrived,” the source said.
Big Steve, Whisper educate us here when does a player internationa transfer valid, is it when the player signs and contract or the selling club? Also is Mayuka on written Contract with Kabwe. How and at what stage is an ITC released.
Porto would be a good destination for young Mayuka, but as things stand I guess a move to Israel wouldn’t be such a bad idea. We really do not need another talented youngster warming the bench or playing for the reserves in Europe. That phenomenon began with Sinkala at Bayern, Mbesuma at Pompey, and now Felix at Stades Rennes. Further, the offer that Porto initially tabled was an insult to Warriors [K50m for their starlet???? Hell No!]. Like Munee has said, lets have clarification of the ITC procedure. If also there could be a clause in the Porto offer concerning the players progress into the first team I would be more comfortable with it.
Munee, basically this is a done deal unless Porto start negotiating with Maccabi. The guy is Maccabi’s player as he has signed a contract and FAZ have issued the clearance certificate. The clearance certificate basically means that the players former association (FAZ) is clearing (allowing) the new association (Isreali Football Association) to register the player. Think of it as a reciept from one association to another.
If Porto really want the boy then they can make an offer to Maccabi and see what happens.
One thing that does surprise me though is that this deal seems to have gone ahead outside the transfer window? If Emma was under contract with Warriors then he isn’t allowed to move until January. Only if he was a free agent (not under contract at any club) would he be able to sign now.
I guess all will become clear in the days ahead.
No wonder Zed doen’t have a FIFA Registered Agent if this is how clubs operate. These are basic FIFA regualations governing the transfer of players.
if warriors knew the deal between them and porto’s was penidng they could not hve allowed him leave zambia for isreal.i can assure u,this will be dennis lota saga
I had strongly condemned the pending trials to Isreal for Mayuka right from the start. Selfish warriors you will only wish you had acted in good faith from the start. You can not eat with both hands at the same time. You will surely only see the good offer from Porto on paper.
Mayuka had said it himself that he wanted to go to Porto but without recouse for any negotiation warrios went to Israel where they thought they would get more money. Porto coming with a better offer and the poor lad has already signed the contract with FAZ sending the clearance certificate before warriors can agree to the deal! I shadder to think such a thing can be hapening at a club this age.
The consetioning of the Railawys has done little if not nothing to improve warriors. We hear the same names as executive members for the club may be they are tired. Its time to shake the club executive and bring in fresh people with new ideals. Shame on you warriors you can not swallow your vomits accept the situtuation it Isreal for your prized star as the deal is done!
Intresting read and comments from all and sorry to say we have yet again dealt ourselves a blow in zambian football, for now let mayuka stay where he is on moral grounds.
1. Lack of FIFA agents, i must say that perhaps the reason we dont have such agents is coz of the cost, after passing the exam which from 2004 has seen 6 zambians pass, the next step which is paying a deposit of $ 100,000 USD has not been done by any of the 6 and thus we do not have any agents in zambia.
2. Managers/Agents- this is wat we have in zambia and i would like to disagree with Dinamo, for the 1st time that is when he says warriors should have gone to afrisport which has experience in transfers, let it be known that the very same pipo you seek to consult have been the ones that have dealt us the worst distraction, as we speak now, im sure most of us do not know the state in which kalabas contract is in, also one such zambian agent who has since migrated openly boasted of how he made his money over the moses sichone and sinkala deals, the figures we see in the papers are not the real figures, alot of money is has been kept away from the clubs and the players, Nchanga rangers today would not be in the state that it is, some pipo have impossed on themselves exiles from there, if we can do this to ourselves, what do you think outsiders plot for us? transparency bane, thats the only thing that we need if we could be honest with ourselves we wouldnt get into such issues, Mayuka signed because someone is getting paid, another one is the one trying to reverse things because he has been promised something, now look at what these greedy chaps have done at power, francis had to hide the fact that he was leaving why not do so through the proper way? anyways, the truth of the matter is that we shall expose them for who they are
Spaks, hey interesting, expose them.Which manager for Sinkala/Sichone migrated and to where.I too suspect to nchekeleko move by warriors officials.
Spaks, i will let argue this one because you seem to know what’s going on, i agree with everything you said. Can it really be $100,000 to register, even for third worlds, can’t a country association be entitled to one for free? I have always said we should have respect for our players and in this i mean the transparency Spaks is talking about. Not to sell players for to little or try to get to much…
This is quite a confusing mess, between Mayuka, Kabwe Warriors, FAZ, Porto and Macabi Tel Aviv. It’s not the first time and won’t be the last.
i think the young man is surround by gold diggers …..!!!! i think porto would have been a best place for mayuka…!! the problem in zambia is that we want to rush players in europe and expect them to make a mark their and then…..Daaram says mayuka should go to macabi to command a first team place? i think mayuka is still a young man who needs to learn more soccer and that the only way he is going to break into a big league by going to porto which i think can attract big teams as it is a big team look at players that have come from the porto reserve team Anderson and deco and are playing for big teams . if things can be changed i wish he goes to porto
Spaks, it seems that you know quite a bit about this, I think we know many of the same people.
However, on point one. The rules have been amended and agents are asked to either:
i) Secure and maintain professional liability insurance. This would mean a monthly payment to a suitable insurance company. The premiums can vary, but in most instances are about £500 p/m. This is do-able for a lot of Zambians. It’s just that a lot of the ‘agents’ don’t know that this option is now available.
ii) Provide FIFA with a bank guarantee of 100,000 Swiss Francs. This will be held by FIFA to cover the cost of any damages that might come about due to the agnet not acting responsibly. This is the traditional method and the one that you refer to above.
Oh yes, apart from parents and agents the third group of people allowed to negoitate contracts on behalf of players are lawyers.
Also, I know who you are referring to in point two. The person would argue that he was also taken for a ride by the player (Moses) and a European based agent. The guy isn’t a FIFA registered agent, so he had to rely on this European to do all the negotiations at Koln. Once the negotiations were concluded he wasn’t renumerated to the level he had agreed, allegedly
Guys, the truth of the matter is that domestically our football is in a shambles. We are speculating on whether or not these players are actually under contract at their clubs. Zambian footballers live a hand to mouth existance and there are a lot of things that go on that are contrary to FIFA laws.
My recommendation to FAZ is that they should engage a law firm to ‘audit’ every premier league team to find out what the current situation is.
The Porto issue should be forgoten and let the young man play in Israel where he stands a better chance of regular match play.We dont want another Felix Katongo issue again.Porto never offered $10,000 AS PEOPLE SEEM TO BE SAYING ,it is the politics of agents concealing the real deal and offering peanuts to clubs and players.Let him play in Israel is my verdict.
Very interesting comments indeed, prooving that we are well vested in football Management issues, the point made on this forum by far only prove that as a nation we have the knowledge but greed always takes its tall, if we took we were not greedy we were going to look at the players plight first before the clubs or the agents thats why the west africans are always ahead of us because they take the players to europe for free and get the money later, comeon zambians we can do much better.
By the way for Francis Kombe to play for golden arrows means that some clearance was gotten somewere unless you are saying FAZ is devided, remember he was training with City then Lusaka Dynamos then Power cried foul that he is there player funny huh.
He is already there and for his careers sake let that be.
SPAKS interesting comments you have made.I still insist on my reference to Afrisports as an experienced club in player transfers coz so far the majority of Zambian players in Europe are from Afri’s Mapili grounds. They are the only club at moment which has sent the likes of Jacob Mulenga,Rainford Kalaba,Stophira Sunzu & the two players at RoPs in Finland direct to Europe.I think from these deals Afrisports have gained some experience on what exactly goes on player tranfers.I agree that some of these deals were not too good but the fact is that Gabriel Kunda & Afrisports have learnt a lot & can advise teams like Warriors who have never sold a player direct to Europe since their inception.
Most of u think Mayuka should go to Isreal, that’s wise thinking considering Mayuka’s inexperience overseas But imagine how good it would be for the guy if he went to Porto and was in the first Team, i don’t know about u? but i think his good enough to play for Porto’s first team. He would hav the chance to play in the Champions league, meet great players and FC Porto sounds better than Maccabi Tev Aviv. Just imagine how profitable it would be for Zambia…..then again u guys probably know more about zambian football than i do.
Whisper & Spaks, if you are a good agent, it’s like having a nice saving account.
Sounds like it’s time for FAZ to lay down some ground rules. Players should be under contract and these should be simple and transparent for all to understand. Every team should use same types of contract. Every team should use the same procedure for selling players. I am all for clubs getting their returns.
Hope this particular case gets sorted out.
Comrads lets be serious. We all know that players differ as well as coaches.Look what is happening at arsenal? You cannot be experienced just becoz u are always in the team.I believe wenger is admired the way he identifys talent and keep it to tick.Porto will also think the same and look at walcot of arsenal.Porto is university of football where you can met, play and learn with best brains in teaching staff, exposure and status of team. This is where mayuka and zambians shud think of playing.Bane ku porto eko chalila na ndubwi! Mwalaba shani! Mbesuma is not mayuka.
JO3 agreed it is of course better to play for porto than haifa, my concern is the fact that those negotiating for the boy do not have the boys interests in mind nor do they have the interests of the country but their own interests, that there is the problem, that’s why we have players in Nigeria now, honestly whose interest has been taken into account? definitely not zambia or the player, what will he learn from there? not even the money is worth talking about
Maccabi is just okay for Mayuka, Going to porto would have been a bad idea because he would be sitting on the bench/stands for 2 yrs. Knowing Zambian players, he would be finished by then.
Go on and do your best in Israel, you are a good lad
Which ever team Mayuka was to sign for, he was to start playing for the reserve, as he has already done at Maccabi and scored a goal. Understand he will play in the reserve for the whole season before being promoyed to the senior team. This could have been the situation at Port too. Football is not bad in Isreal. In any case the boy is just 17 ?
