Zesco’s match against Forest, kicking off at 15:00 hours, is one of the four Barclays Cup pre-quarterfinal double-header clashes that will be played at separate venues along the line of rail from Chingola to Mazabuka this afternoon.
The defending Barclays champions and current FAZ Super Division leaders will be hoping to advance to their second cup competition after recently reaching the BP Top Eight semi-finals on September 20 in Ndola.
Zesco begin their Barclays title defence without the inspiration of midfielder Rainford Kalaba and last year’s Barclays Cup joint top scorer on three goals.
Kalaba has since moved to join Sporting Braga in Portugal but is currently loaned to second division side Gel Vicente in the same country.
Striker Enoch Sakala, who also scored three goals in last year’s tournament, returns to try and extend the record.
However, Sakala will have to overcome what is turning out to be a poor 2008 season in which he has only scored two competitive goals following a prolific 2007 campaign in which he hit the target 12 times.
Zesco coach Wedson Nyirenda will also call on strikers Lottie Phiri and Nicholas Zulu to try and stop their Ndola rivals who are under coach Mathews Njovu.
The other pre-quarterfinal match at the same venue will be an all-Barclays Cup debutant 12:30 kickoff clash between Power Dynamos and Kalulushi Modern Stars.
In Mazabuka, 2007 Barclays Cup semi-finalists Green Buffaloes take on Kascol Rangers.
Kascol will be hoping to avoid another embarrassing pre-quarterfinal exit after 2007 quarter-finalists Green Eagles thumped them 6-0 to record the biggest Barclays Cup win to date.
The other Barclays Cup pre-quarterfinal match at the same venue at 15:00 hours will see Nakambala Leopards and Young Arrows square off.
At Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Mohammed Fathy will be hoping for better fortunes in the Barclays Cup following Kabwe Warriors BP Top Eight quarterfinal exit a fortnight ago.
Warriors, who were beaten 1-0 by Nkana in the preliminary stage of the 2007 Barclays Cup, take on tournament debutants Paramilitary in a lunch-time kickoff.
The 15:00 hours kickoff at Nkoloma will see 2007 Barclays Cup quarterfinalist Riflemen face newcomers Red Arrows.
At Railway Grounds in Kabwe, Zanaco will be looking for an improved showing in this year’s Barclays Cup following their elimination at this stage last season by losing finalists Chambishi.
Zanaco take on Barclays Cup new boys Zamtel at 12:30 in a match that will pit two teams with player-coaches on their respective benches.
Zamtel will be led by Yorum Kasempa while Zanaco will be under the helm of Numba Mumamba and Kelvin Kaindu.
The final game in Kabwe will be between 2007 Barclays Cup quarter-finalist Lusaka Dynamos and debutants Nchanga Rangers.

Today the Ndeke boys,Power Dynamos take on Kalulushi Morden Stars in the Barclays cup tourney.Kalulushi is a treaky side not knew to many Dinamo fans.In the days of ZCCM,Kalulushi was like a nursery behind the grooming of most star players for Dinamo rivals Nkana Red Devils & most Dinamo fanatics believed that Kalulushi Morden Stars & Kalampa were one & the same team. When John Soko joined Power in 1990 from Kalulushi ,Kalampa fans never accepted the move & always shouted “Soko Zambia uli wesu bali twibila ba Ndeke, uka bwele pa Chilata” whenever Power faced Kalampa. This made our most prized right back think as if he owed the Devils something until he painfully left Arthur Davies in 1993.The Kalulushi products include the likes of Gibby Mbasela,Godfrey Muselepete,John Soko,John Mubanga,Mannaseh Mwanza(later joined Dinamo),Joseph Musonda,Sylvester Musonda etc.The match to day reminds me of such memories & I expect Dinamo to sort of the morden stars.”MWAPYA BA NDEKE BAISA”.DINAMO!!!

Bane I watched Katongo and his club yesterday and I should say I was disappointed with his team mates, cause they were really crap. The boy Katongo was good but was at faulty in his clubs second goal. My GOD the club is crap, the game was full of errors, God knows. Today I will watch Isaac live at 16:00 hours and I just hope his team mates are not as crap as what I saw last night, ati Germany league no, ilya takawaba, hope it was just an off day cause if that is the way forward then ni gear 1

I am very impressed that Barclays has increased the price value. This will surely give the teams a good reason to RUN for the money! I would however like to echo what one blogger (sorry I cant exactly recall the ID) on this website saying we should be having these games played midweek to let the super league continue as scheduled as well as creating an opportunity for the clubs to try out their reserves. This really makes a lot of sense if you ask me.
I hope ba FAZ will take note of that brilliant suggestion.
Anyways good luck to the teams playing. If there is anyone one out there to update us on the proceedings pliz do so.

As a Kalampa fan, I just have to watch these Barclays games from away. I would have loved to go to Nkoloma though but we had a Madalas game against Club 5ive at Barclays Sports Complex. Hope Nkana works hard and makes it to the top 8 next season at the time of the cut-off.
