Ntofo-Ntofo, Gattuso & Tsunami join camp

September 4th, 2008

Zambia national soccer team has received a massive boost ahead of next Wednesday’s mouth-watering clash against Togo after the ‘Big Three’ of skipper Christopher ‘Tsunami’ Katongo, Isaac ‘Gattuso’ Chansa and Collins ‘Ntofo-ntofo’ Mbesuma all linked with the rest of their international colleagues.

Katongo of German side Arminia Bielefeld was the first of the trio to join camp earlier in the day whilst Swedish based Chansa and forgotten burly striker Collins Mbesuma joined after 18:00 local time.

The news that the trio have joined will really lift the morale in the camp. While the duo of Chansa and Katongo have been used by Frenchman Herve Renard already, this match marks the return of prodigal son, Mbesuma who many believe can find the back of the net even if he last had competitive game time in November last year.

Jacob Mulenga and Rainford Kalaba of Chateauroux in France and Portuguese side Gil Vicente respectively are scheduled to arrive this evening to give Renard a full strength squad to choose from.

The match against the Hawks of Togo will be beamed live on Supersport 3 at 14:00 Zambian time while Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, ZNBC will televise the full match as a ‘delayed’ match, starting their broadcasting at 14:30 ZMT.

L-R: Jacob Mulenga, Chintu ‘Modibo’ Kampamba, Isaac ‘Gattuso’ Chansa & Felix ‘Feli-Gol’ Katongo during a training session in September last year. Chansa missed his club’s league match after sustaing a thigh injury.

Zambia needs to get all the maximum three points to top Group 11 which also has Swaziland. For Togo a draw is enough guaranteed they beat Swaziland in October in the last match of the qualifiers.

Players already in Camp:

Goalkeepers: Jacob Banda (Zesco United), Bob Banda (Roan United) Kalililo Kakonje (Amazulu, RSA), Kennedy Mweene (Free State Stars, RSA)

Defenders:Francis Kasonde (Power Dynamos), Clive Hachilensa (Carcas Kicks, RSA) Elijah Tana (Nchanga Rangers) Joseph Musonda (Lamotville Golden Arrows, RSA), Chintu Kampamba (Kabwe Warriors?), Hichani Himonde (Lusaka Dynamos), Davies Nkausu (SuperSport United, RSA)

Midfielders: Henry Banda (Zanaco) Felix Katongo (Stade Rennes, France), Noah Chivuta (SuperSport United, RSA) Isaac Chansa (Helsingborg IF, Sweden),

Strikers: Emmanuel Mayuka (Kabwe Warriors) Francis Kombe (Power Dynamos), Christopher Katongo (Arminia Bielefeld, Germany),Rodger Kola(Zanaco) James Chamanga (Clubless), Collins Mbesuma (Mamelodi Sundowns, RSA), Collins Mbesuma( Sundowns, RSA),

Players Yet to Join: Rainford Kalaba (Gil Vincente, Portugal),Jacob Mulenga (Chateauroux, France).

Dropped: Kebby Hachipuka, (Green Eagles), Lyianga Chiwanki, Whiteson Simwanza (both Young Arrows).

Ruled Out: Felix Sunzu Jr (Knee injury), Nyambe Mulenga (injury), Mike Poto (ankle) & Stophira Sunzu (Just signed for Chateauroux)

Apology- the staff at Zambiafootball wish to apologise for a headline we carried that hard tackling centre-back Billy Mwanza had been dropped from the squad, BIlly is still in camp according to sources in the upper echelons of the Football Association of Zambia.

I agree with the two guys just above me. LT reported that Chansa has not been released by his club. Zamfoot please confirm. Zambia will carry the day. My prediction 3-0. Although I would have loved to see Sinkala in this game.

Personaly I thnk Mbesuma should not hav been included, the chap doesnt even play @ Sundowns! Why pick him & leave out Sinkala who is active @ his club. There’s also Boyd Mwila who shld be given a chance 2 prove himself, the boy is scoring goals! Abash Mbesuma

looks beefy, good luck to Togo looks like they are in for hellfire barring poor team selection by Renard. HE should choose a team to work around their strongman and create the chances we need to take this game.

    2-1 is my scoreline

    GO GO Chipolopolo!

mbesuma should be be on bench, let the young man Kola start upfront with chris and jacob on the flanks in our 4-3-3 formation.

    ………………………mweene…………………………

    clive………..chintu………..billy…………….musonda

    ………kalaba………chansa………Felix……

    ……chris………………………….mulenga/mayuka

    ………………………kola……………………………….

Tana is unfit and will only harm us against the likes of adebayor who is at the top of his game. thats a fact we saw it against swaziland and they scored us tho ref judged offside for the goal

lets be practical and face facts, Tana is not the experience we want.
Released from Sudan and benched even by our very own Nchanga Rangers!

Looks like no Gatusso for this game, why didn’t they listen and call Sinkala!! guess Noah will make it into the first 11 and in his natural midfield row. Its funny how in Zed soccer we always seem to have a big number of attacking midfileders but always very limited defensive midfilders. Mbesuma shud play about 15/20 minutes of the second half not a full 90 minutes. lets be part of the recovery programme to bring him back to match fittness. Mayuka and Jacob can swap around and Chris should siit just behind the two strickers.
Ba zambia iye!!!!!!! Ba Zambia chipolopolo!!!!!!!!

I also saw the report in the Post & on LT about Chansa but the Times of Zamb & Daily -mail both have reported that he arrived last evening with Mbesuma. The even interviewed him.
Though he says he has been carrying a thigh injury. That’s why we wanted A.Sinkala in the team cos if Isaac’s injury persists we might have problems with our midfield. This game is a final apart from Qualification
/3points there is a lot at stake .The team is playing for our Late President LPM & other pioneers of the Zambian game the Late Wilfred Wonani & the late Hubert Chime May their souls Rest in Peace. We can’t afford more tears come 16:00Hrs 10th Sept.

Nikolai why are you saying abash Mbesuma let the coach look at the player & access his fitness cos the football brain never dies.He may not have played for a long time but don’t be fooled the man is still deadly. The are football politics at his present club which have kept Mbesuma from the team,i am sure you won’t understand. By the way Nikolai Mbesuma is Zambian.

Jayda i feel Kola is still raw you saw for yourself when we played Swaziland & COSAFA.Yes he has scored during the last games but those were friendly games with amateur teams. When the “real sfuff” comes he seems to freeze.Otherwise he is a good player for the future.Personally if i was to choose between starting Kola or Mayuka i would go for Mayuka to satrt and Kola comes in as a sub.For this game no experiments please.

l feel the line up should be like this.

    ——————–mweene—————-

    Nkausu——–Chintu ———–HH——–Musonda

    Jacob——–Kalaba——–Isaac———Felix

    ——–Chamanga————Christopher

Noah should come in for either Jacob or Isaac in the second half ;Mbesuma , Kola or Mayuka in for Chamanga.

Mbesuma is our golden boy so whatever he may have experienced is in the past we should support him and allow him to come on as a sub for the last 10 minutes.

Sibs, Kola is a wonderboy, yes there is no denying he was more than wasteful against the Swazis’ but he is the best goal getter we have at the moment.

He is yet to break his duck for the chipolopolo boys in the qualifiers but if anyone can score goals for Zed it is him.

i would go for Kola over Mayuka becoz i think Mayuka is less of a team player and without good supply is at best just an average player.

Nikolai thanks for your reply i appreciate your earlier contribution. Its good to know your have nothing personal with Collins.Yes lets not play names. Lets wait for the Coach’s final team he is the one with the players.I am sure he will access each player.

Jayda i noticed during the last game in COSAFA that Renard played Kola on the Right wing.Maybe he thought that the boy was not ticking as a Central Striker. Jayda are you a Zanaco supporter?.For me a striker has to score no matter the opposition not just weak opposition. Don’t get me wrong i am no saying one has to score in every game cos that’s not possible. But their some Strikers even when the haven’t scored the still create problems for the opposition defence and the able to hold the ball for other other supporting Strikers/Striker.
Any way lets agree to disagree we all see/analyze the game differently.
    Cheers Guys.

As deadly as Mbesuma is we simply canot shy away from the fact the guy is not match fit. He has not had game time for way too long for us to just take a gamble and throw him in a game of such magnitude. people we have to win this game, I think some people dont realise what not qualifying means, it means 2 years of no international football. If togo wins they are auutomatically through regardless of the swazi result, and with 4 points and only one goal to show for it there is a large likelihood we wont be one of the second best. A win in this game is a must, a definite, we really cant throw in a player with no game time. I say let the other boys play and Mbesuma will be a super sub regardless of the way things are in the last 15 minutes. He is good but lets be realistic, he has had no game 4 way 2 long.

NiKolai please we are not talking about Monze swallos here but the team for the whole nation. Sibs can`t believe you also addicted to this Nikolai.

Mbesuma is just one of the many strikers in the team you should not be just saying no to Mbesuma provide us with an ALTANATIVE other than the strikers who in your opinion is more derserving of a place in our National Team than Mbesuma.

Gntlemen MBESUMA HAS RECOVERED ,let the coach decide who to play on wednesday. He is a proven scorer at the highest level of international soccer and that is enough reason to give him a chance just like the other strikers have their own reasons to be considered. Why show so much dislike for your own zambian player who has saved this nation and made you smile before? What is the difference between him and Felix katongo’s situation?Lets encourage them!

Vincent Numbwa i still stand by what i said earlier & what i have been saying in the past that No one in Zed at the moment can match Mbesuma in terms of finishing, positional sense, shooting you name it the boy is a natural.Even at 80% he far much better than a lot of the strikers we have in the team.
Lets just wait & see what the coach comes up with but with out a doubt i know Collins will play on Wednesday & i know he won’t disappoint.

Sibs, i love Red Arrows and would have had Simon Lupiya in the squad if it were up to me but lets face facts.

in Swaziland Kola was more potent than Mayuka and he has the sense of position to be were the ball will land which is more than i can say for the others.

Mayuka like Jacob are better off on the flanks and yes Mbesuma is the best striker we’ve had since the the hey days of Kilambe and Milanzi.

If chansa is injured as they say, we might have to bring in a Holding midfielder from the back and only Tana can fill this role as there is no room for the elderly at the back.

I kind of like the way White playsd football and it was a shame to see him dropped

  32. Sibs
    September 5th, 2008 at 21:56 | #32

Jayda so you like Red Arrows. On Tana playing as a Holding midfielder i don’t know if he can last cos that position requires a player to run for the entire 90 minutes. One needs to track opposing Strikers & Midfielders as Mabbwana says well as support the midfield when we attack.

I agree with u SIBS ,Mbesuma even at his worse fitness levels would still be a better altenative than some of the young strikers that we have.Out of all the games that have been played the young boys still have not convinced at the highest level.Every one is putting too much pressure on the young boys.Mbesums will not disapoint!

Am also in support of the fans who are in support of the idea for mbesuma to start. The guy is fat for sure but his ability to score is very sharp.Remember how much we have suffered with our frontline evr since the guy was dropped. He doesn’t miss out anyhow like ceartain chaps.Let him play so that he can retain the lost glory. And for Tana, the guy deserves a place aswell. He knows how to hundle strikers without making silly mistakes. Moreover he is experienced with leadership skills.Am confident with the team will carry the day
