Germany
After watching his striking partner Artur Wichniarek propel his way to the top of the league in goals, Birthday boy Chris Katongo scored his first bundesliga goal a mere 9 minutes in on his 26th anniversary. Following up a previous report, Arminia Bielefeld were defeated 4-2 by Hamburg SV on Saturday, despite taking a 2-0 lead in the first half.
‘Tsunami’ Katongo opened the scoring early in the first half after a beautiful lay-off from his Polish teammate. A long-ball from the right-side of the pitch towards the box was deflected up into the air by a Hamburg defender, Wichniarek beat the on-rushing goalkeeper to the ball on the left-side of the six-yard box and headed it nicely to the center to an unmarked Katongo. The Tsunami made no mistake from eight yards away and celebrated his birthday goal in style, as always.
A glorious home-win was not to be however as Hamburg pulled a goal back before half-time, and completed the come-back with three goals in the second-half. Bielefeld are still searching for their first win of the season, with draws in their previous two matches.

Andrew Sinkala played 90 minutes for FC Ausburg in the Second Division Bundesliga as they fell 2-0 to MSV Duisburg. Sinkala was in the central midfield, but unable to generate any offense. Ausburg has 1 win and 2 losses this season.
France
As was also reported earlier, Jacob Mulenga opened up his goal account this past weekend with a 90th minute consolation marker against former club RC Strasbourg in a 2-1 defeat on the road. A 2-0 defeicit at half-time proved to be too much for the visitors, while recently demoted Strasbourg maintained their perfect record at 5-0-0. The 5-3-2 formation of Chateauroux was unable to run the flanks as they hoped against the 4-3-3 of the home team.
Mulenga received a short pass with his back to the net at the top of the 18-yard box while he fended off a marker, a first touch to his leftside was followed by a quick spinning shot. The goalkeeper was unable to get down on the short properly, only to get a fingertip on it, but not enough as the ball powered into the back of the net. Jacob’s last minute spark wasn’t enough, despite an additional 4 minutes of play.

In Ligue 1 action, recently unsettled midfielder Felix Katongo was on the bench for Stade Rennes but did not make an appearance in a 0-0 draw at Toulouse. As reported last week on zambianfootball.net, Felix has grown tiresome of not making any appearances, and alluded that it may be better to get playing time in an African division of lower quality, then to sit on the bench in Europe. Rennes sit mid-table after 5 games, in 10th spot, with 1 win, 2 draws and 1 loss.
Sweden
Isaac Chansa was not involved in Helsingborgs IF impressive 5-1 victory over Hammarby. The midfielder was not in his usual starting line-up place, nor on the bench, no word yet as to why. HIF maintained their third place position in the table, widening the gap over 4th place Hammarby, unfortunately the two teams ahead of them were also victorious.
The day was not quite as good for Edwin Phiri at Ljungskile as they were defeated 4-0 at second place Elfsborg. Phiri played the whole match, his notable contribution being a rare yellow card, one of five for the squad in total.
In the Superettan, Boyd Mwila and Orgryte play on Tuesday night, check back for any updates.
Finland
Over in Finland, the Yobe brothers continued their alternating scoring ways for AC Oulu in a relatively disappointing 1-1 draw at last place KaPa Helsinki.

Donewell Yobe got the scoring started early, a mere three minutes into the match, on a set-up from his brother. Oulu couldn’t hold the lead on the road however, as the match was even on 22 minutes as KaPa scored only their 5th goal at home all season. Dominic Yobe did manage to find his way into the referee’s book as he was involved in a minor disagreement with Aapo Raninen of KaPa, resulting in a yellow card for both players in the 65th minute. Donewell was substituted out in the 78th minute.
The first division was equally as disappointing for RoPS as they fell to IFK Mariehamm 2-1. Chileshe Chibwe started at striker with Chanda Mwaba in the midfield, but were unable to produce any results. Veteran Zeddy Saileti came on in the 83rd minute, however he too was not able to produce the much needed spark. Star target man Nchuminya Mweetwa remains out with a knee injury. RoPS are level on points for 11th spot with Mariehamm, but hold the goal differential advantage, and are 12 points clear of relegation.
Portugal
Rainford Kalaba was an unused substitute for second division Gil Vicente in their 2-1 win at home against Feirense.
Israel
The second division Liga Leumit season got under way this past weekend, Justine Zulu and his team Ha’poel Beer Sheva drew away at Ironi Nir Ramat HaSharon, 0-0.
South Africa
New national team call up, Davies Nkausu played at right full backagainst Kennedy Mweene’s Free State Stars. The Supersport United put up a brave performance and helped his side to a 1-0 win via a first half penalty.
Nkausu’s teammate Noah Chivuta did not even make the bench.
Kalililo Kankoje failed to keep a clean sheet as the Clive Barker coached Amazulu went 1-0 down to Platinum Stars at home in the first match of the new season.
Elsewhere, despite signing a new contract last week, Linos Chalwe missed out on Bay United’s first ever match in the ABSA Premiership. United drew 1-1 with Moraka Swallows.
Chalwe propelled Bay United to promotion last season after netting 11 goals on the road.
Collins Mbesuma’s big spenders Mamelodi Sundowns won 1-0. The Brazilians beat Celtic and the Luanshya born was did not play.
Sundowns coach Trott Moloto said prior to kickoff that ”Collins is not yet ready.”

Big up Zambianfootball for these updates. Can I also suggest that you come up with some fantansy football league to add to the excitement?
The Togolese coach last time we played them was threatening not to sign a contract & their was confusion on who was to lead the team but they still beat us 1-0. Adebayor & the other chap Olufade(scorer of all 2goals for Togo in the qualifiers) are still with the team. These guys also have been training confusion or no confusion & whether the coach is there or not, nothing has changed. These guys are playing on our minds again.
We have to work hard for the win.
Monk Police, I think HH will start in place of Billy if Tana recovers.
I like ur line up.
Thanks Kalampa zibiggie, Sibs has brought up good points. I also remember that the last time we played there was confusion in the Togolese camp yet we failed to take advantage and they ended beating by 1 goal.
Renard should tell our troops not underrate these guys by any chance.
This game is all to play for, this is time we should revege….remember last time Togo won us 4-1 in 2006 world qualifying games i was so disappointed such that i ended up not eating nshima that night.
From that am sure u can tell how much i hate these guys…
Do or Die……….swim or sink…..what is it gonna be???
Chris lead us into victory
good update.
Am afraid Nkausu’s talent is going to be wasted like that of Sashi Chalwe. The boy is good but has received little attention so far from the senior national team. Renard pliz do something
Hope there will be no politiks at the stadium.Lets watch the game and win in honour to our beloved president.

before scoring Mulenga missed a penalty kick in the first half and then, as the captain of Chateauroux, put an official complain against the first goal of Strasbourg which seem to be unavailable (it came on a corner kick on which the kicker of the corner kick touched the ball twice before making a pass…).
News from France
who have any information about Ian Bakala who is a great player according to me?
yea, he missed a penalty and a good chance of a bysicle kick on the rebound too.
So we celebrate his goal yet he was suppposed to be on the score sheet more than once. Jacob is a very good player but I think one of these coaches must try and play him elswere on the field. He just canot get the back of the net when needed to. He scores way too seldomly for a stricker.
I looked at the BBC “African goals in Europe” but there is no mention of Jacob Mulenga under France. Only Katongo is mentioned. What is this?
Let’s start with Mbesuma & Tsunami upfront. Jacob & Felix be on the wings; Chansa & Kalaba 6/8; Tana, Musonda, Nkausu, Billy – defence!!
GO CHIPOLOPOLO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
John, I think Jacob is playing on a lower tier, most goals mentioned/shown are those for super ligue in France.
