Tsunami opens his Bundesliga account

August 30, 2008

Chipolopolo Boys skipper Christopher ‘Tsunami’ Katongo scored for his new club Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday to open his Bundesliga account.

Katongo in the starting line up for a second successive Bundesliga match, scored in the ninth minute to give Bielefeld an early lead over Dutch Coach Martin Jol’s Hamburg.

Bielefeld went to the break leading 2-1 but squandered their lead and allowed Hamburg to score three goals in the second half. The match fininshed 4-2 in favour of Hamburg.

With France based striker Jacob Mulenga being on target earlier on Friday for his club Berrichonne Chateauroux, Chipolopolo Boys coach Herve Renard should be happy with news that his top two strikers were on target ahead of a must win joint 2010 World and African Cup Qulifiers against the Hawks of Togo on September 10.

Katongo and Mulenga are expected to join the rest of the lads this week.

I predicted that either Chris or Mbesuma will score. Hats off Chris. Add 14 more goals you will be in the EPL.

    Hope mbesuma plays today.

Chris Katongo is going to be a star. He is the next big thing to come out of Africa. With Drogba now 30 Katongo looks set to take over his mantle. I predict Katongo being an African Footballer of the year in the next few years. He will take the Bundesliga alight. I agree with Kalampa at that rate he will find himself in the Premiership. The Bundesliga is a huge league and he can rise to stardom in Germany and create a big name for himself.

Chris should stay in Germany. The Bundesliga is huge and he can be a star there. The Germans tend to give unkowns a chance ,in England Katongo might be on the bench.

Guys let’s not get over board. African footballer ofthe year??!!!! You need to be in serious league and play for a big team to even be considered for that. In my books, the Bundesliga cannot be considered a big league anymore. When was the last time a Bundesliga team contend for the Champions league? Chris would have to perform exceptionally well for him to move to a more decent club but that will be very tricky considering the calibre of his club. Don’t get me wrong, I do wish him well but we just need to be careful about how we rate him and our expectations.

Hats off to our service man.
If i may add, no one is getting overboard- Cho said “I predict Katongo being an African Footballer of the year in the next few years.” note that this is in a few years to come not that it will be this year let alone next. so for nw, we cu stick to praising our our Tsunami coz he deserves it. any data on Ntofo?

DaMwiinger you are entitled to your own opinion but as far as I am concerned the Bundesliga is huge. Look at the great sides that compete in it. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke, Hamburg, Weder Bremen the list goes on. Those clubs are huge and Bayern Munich have won the Champions league several times. So have Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga just does not get the publicity it desrves but it is huge.

cho, the guy has just scored one goal, lets not get over the top here.
Gilbert, Ntofontofo is yet to start making his mark. There are now calls for him to be used so maybe Trot will be put in a corner and use him.
DaMwiinger is on the ball here, Chris has to play exeptionally well this season and we all know he can do it, but he has to play exeptionally well to get anywhere near being African foootballer. one thing is the club he is in is not a champions league contender and the african players who cut it as african footballers of the year 80% of the time are drawn from this tournament. This league is huge but of late has not produced a team that seriously has the grade to win the champions league as such, naturally, it has devalued.
Chris congrats and keep the fine form, bang in more goals and believe you me champions league will be in your sights soon.

I just hope the Tsumani destructions have just began….
Am still believing in Mbesuma to start getting back to his normal form.

Mbesuma should have played this weekend especially due to the fact that almost the entire Sundowns frontline was out largely due to injury. mbesuma is by far a more established stricker than Ngwenya yet Trot chose Ngwenya ahead of him. I said it before and I say it again. local is lekker in Trots head and this is going to slow down Mbesuma’s debut for the Brazilians. He should have at least played two games by now and though it has nothing to do with Sundowns, would have been a fantastic yard stick for us Zambians to measure if he has got it to get back in the Chipolopolo.

This is good news for Zambia,as this is a moral booster for the rest of the zambian players and the fans as well.If only keeps the consistency in scoring he is surely heading to a bigger club.
