Zambia’s crucial 2010 African and World Cup match against Togo have been set for September 10.
The match was initially scheduled to take place on September 6 but FAZ asked FIFA to move it to a week later after reservation were made that it fell within the 21-days of national mourning declared by government but surprisingly enough it’s the same weekend which the Zambia under-17 will battle it out against Nambia.
Trying to avoid the club v country wrangles over the release of players, FIFA have settled for September 10, a date reserved for international football and this should also give Chipolopolo Boys trainer Herve Renard extra three days to access his professionals.
Meanwhile the Zambia national team broke camp on Friday afternoon and are set to regroup on Monday to start preparing for the must win match.
And the Zambia under-20 team’s departure for Austrilia to participate in the invitational Canberra Youth Cup has been deffered to next Tuesday. This is after the tournament organisers made changes to the tournament which was initially scheduled to kickoff today.
They could have just let it played on September 6 instead of 10th. Its a working day as result many Chipolopolo fanatics won’t travel to Chililabombwe to cheer the boys.
I think govt should declare it a public holiday so that we can go and cheer the boys to victory.
Should we lose this match, who will be blamed FAZ, FIFA or Govt?
Govt to declare 10th Sept a holiday? dream on, they are busy looking for jobs u think they care about football right now? its up to the boys to play with there hearts, ika kosa
Yes it’s up to the boys to honour Levy but govt should also reason. The boys’ need the 12th player-FANS to deliver.
By the way the acting President Rupiah Banda is life member of FAZ. in fact he is the one responsible in taking Kalu and Charlie Cool to Belgium. Come RB declare it a public holiday
People just take sick leaves…lol
I am not sure why the U-17 will be playing their game during the period of National mourning. It’s like Faz were under political pressure,it might as well been good to let the Seniors play on 6th Sept & let the young ones play on the 10th.
Cos the big boys will need more of the support & weekend more people can find time to watch da game.Any way nothing can be done now.
Public holiday because of a soccer match (hahah!!!), sure glad that some of us will never be presidents otherwise we will even have 4 day weekends yet the country has over 70% unemplyment. The boys will do us proud on the 10th and we will have mourned our president without any question marks, cant seem to figure out why so many people have an issue with the date, C’MON if we are good on Saturday doesn’t mean we cant be good on Wednesday, people lets stop moaning about a day, gosh.
The 12th man will be there regardless of the day.
