Former international defender Moses Sichone has spent the last four days training at Germany Bundesliga outfit VFL Wolfsburg.
Sichone’s league experience is the key factor in tempting the Wolfsburg coaches Felix Magath and Bernd Hollerbach as his young team lacks experience.
Wolfsburg is currently placed fifth with four points after two matches played in the Germany top flight.
With only three days remaining before the transfer window closes, the ex-Nchanga Rangers player is desperate to find a new club after parting company with a third tier side Kickers Offenbanch after they were demoted from Bundesliga 2 at the end of last season.
In July, ‘Big Mo’ failed to agree personal terms with second tier side St. Paulis.
Sichone has been in Germany since 1999 and has had spells at FC Cologne, Alemannia Aachen and kickers.
Should he secure a contract at Wolfsburg, the 31 year old will be the fourth Zambian player playing in Germany.
Chipolopolo Boys skipper Christopher Katongo signed a three year old contract with another top flight side Armenia Bielefeld while Andrew Sinkala plays for Bundesliga 2 outfit FC Augsburg.
Former international striker Milton Tembo plays for an amateur side.
He last featured for Zambia in the 1-0 loss at home to South Africa in which he gave a stuttering performance.

Germans are recognising Big Mo’s experience but his own people doubts his potential. It hurts him & when he speaks out people say he is arrogant.I hope he get sighned in the next 3 days.Maybe that will make people realise that there is still a lot of football in him

i think our stars under value themselves, good for big mo to find a second tier team, hope they sign him.
Zambians have short memories, even the late president(MHSRIP) said it. we are quick to recall a highly unfit tana but cant even look at big mo and sinks, its a shame

All the best mose. Prove them wrong by clinching the deal.

Moyo Sichone was in Zambia recently & he personally expressed his desire to play for Zed if given a chance by the tech team.Lets not say things that he has never said
Vincent Numbwa on Fri, 29th Aug 2008 3:08 PM
I will only surport Moze when he has a platform to prove that he is not finished and changes his mentality and atitute torwards his country but looking at his age I think he is too old to change. If it were true that his experiance is well recognised in Germany Moses would not be desparately looking for a club at this eleventh hour.
Besides his last game for Zambia was disatrous to say the least. He had come from no where after his self imposed exile and the Coach then appointed him as captain for the game, the guy could hardly run we lost the game mostly as a result of his poor perfomance.
Jayda I agree with you only on the memory aspect for most us Zambians, we have forgoten so soon that this is the moses who prefered goin to Spain for a pre season training when the country was crying for him to play. We should give credit where it is due, Tana can not be compared to Moses even in the later prime time. Tana was and has remained committed to our Zed team unlike Moses. I can disclose how much but Tana was getting alot more money in U.A.E. but remained committed to zambian. I don`t hate Moses it just that betrayal for our country has left me wondering what contribution he can make now in his late afternoon of his career when he did not do a thing at the pick of his career.
People have blamed FAZ for his absence but the administrators and coaches for Zambian Nat. taem have changed a lot during the career of this uncommitted, finished player he surely would have fould time to mend up with at least someone. He is 31 and finished not to have a club at this last hour and people expect him to make a meanifull contribution now which he did not do in his hey days! Come on guys don`t make sick!

Haahahahahahaha,
Mabbwana and Vincent Numbwa, I laughed a lot at what you have written above. I agree with you and we forget easily yes. I have just remembered when Moses went to Spain yet he was on holiday and be in camp with Zambia. I remember when he was required in Zambia when he refused to play over something, and that week I found him in Manda Hill shoprite. The man is just not committed to the national cause. Let him prove himself in Germany, then we shall give him to represent us. One day on this forum, I said something like Moses came begging to Nyirongo former Sports Minister to nplay for Zambia coz he was desperate with the FIFA rule regarding people playing in Europe to make up at least 70 or 80% of all games played in every season. Do you remember? I have lost faith in the man but he is our son, we shall get him back when he proves himself.

VINCENT, I dont agree with you that we lost aganst RSA coz of Sichone.I watched that game live & the problem was our strikers who wasted a lot of chances, the game had nothing to do with our defence. The goal we allowed came from a corner & Mukoena utilised his chance.Poor defending is what was shown by the likes of Hachilesa & Nketani in the Cameroun Zed game at the 2008 AFCON & I dont think Big Mo is in that class. Point # 2,at 31yrs today Big Mo was 22yrs when he started playing in the Bundesliga & its normal moving frm Chingola to Colongne might have turned the then young man around but its unfair to think he is the same at his age. # 3, to say he is too old at his age is being unfair, what about Tana,Hachilesa,Joseph Musonda & even Chamanga(turning 3o)??.# 4, lets not bring back the old Spain saga.Chamanga was in the same scenario recently, what are your comments??.I know we want our pros to be patriotic but we should also understand that they make a living from their clubs. Shex Chipoya’s career ended after he was injured at a National Team training session & no one even at FAZ remembers him . #5, the clubless issue,Chintu & Billy are also clubless and they are with the squard,I dont know why this is a big issue with Sichone, please lets be fair on these issues for the benefit of our team

Vincent Numbwa. thumb up man, u have said enough, those with ears will hear and those witheye have ready
Mo. its time you declare that you have retired from national team to concetrate on club football. You my man, if you do this. you will bring this whole debate to rest
THE BODY OF OUR PRISEDENT IS BACK IN LSK, IT DOES NOT LOOK GOOD. I WONDER WHY HE WAS TAKEN AROUND THE COUNTRY WITHOUT A COOLER?

I personally think it’s high time Herve Renard and his BOSSES @ FAZ gave us their plan both long & short term.
For instance for short term, they can let us know that Zambia’s priority is to qualify for 2010 World Cup then we can’t achieve this with youngsters only so we will need a bit of experience in the mode of the Tana and the like.
Or our priority will be buildin a team for the future; Let say target 2012 Olympics & 2014 WC, then there’s no need for Tana & co.
But for now I see no road up excuted by FAZ and Renard. I really don’t were we are heading to.
Back to the Sichone saga.I ve always admired Sichone but he has let us down during his prime together with Mwape Miti en Andrew Tembo during his stay in Germany.
Imagine a centreback pairing of Sichone/Tana at the 2006 African Cup, but the guy choose to go on holiday(but maybe there’s more to that since kalu was the coach). Moze was supposed to report the same way sinkala did.
For now let Renard tell the boys that whoever commands first team football at club level stands a beta chance of a call up not the way things are at the moment.
For now, I will support the inclusion of Sinkala because he is playing first team football.
Let Sichone start playing competitive football first and lets not base his inclusion on past glory.
I followed his campaign in the second half of last season. He was fantastic and arguably Zambia’s best player abroad but Please No past glory!!

Firstly Jayda, Wolfsburg is a top-flight team not a second tier team. In my opinion this is a bigger deal than the club he could not agree terms with. Today the transfer window has closed. hopefully I am typing this and Moses signature is still drying on the contract.
Dinamo, totally agree with you and to go further, a whole lot of our players have been down the patriotism road before, even the great Kalu. I know a lot of us have short memories but remember the Kalu and Ziese incident!! If we are not going to use the best we have got and use pathetically lame reasons like, he should be in a club first, were are your comments on Chintu?? If we are going the route of age, please don’t get me started on the Joseph Musonda’s, grand papa Tana etc. If patriotism is the issue please say something about Chamanga and Chris on the recent Germany trip. Please lets not heap it all on one player when the others we heap praise for have done or continue to do EXACTLY THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!! Dont get me wrong, I am not justifying the actions of these players but lets not pick out players and disregard them for national duty for crimes a whole lot of other players have committed. The same TANA who seems to be regarded the player that exemplifies patriotism in Vincent Numbwa and Mabbwana’s books turned off his phone when the tech support were trying to call him from the airport, remember the trip to the last Afcon?? Gentlemen to say the least your reasons behind not calling up Big Mo are tired and worn. If you want to justify him being dropped please come up with something else.
In my opinion lets use the best we have got to get the results we want, not to pick and experiment, bring in ego’s and personal issues and bring out ancient stories of not being patriotic, I think if we drop players on such flimsy issues what does that say about us. Big mo is still one of the best we have, had he been in the local league and this club showed interest we would be signing praise songs and keeping fingers crossed for him. C’MON PEOPLE, a Zambian in Germanys top flight actually getting game time and you still think he is not worthy of a call up if not then I dont know who is.
K Blades. on Mon, 1st Sep 2008 9:32 AM
Boss, there is a big diffence between a friendly game against a division three team and a qualifier for a world cup of Afcon. Moses stayed away from important qualifiers and therefore you cannot compare this with the recent friendly. Bottomline is that Moses has not been patriotic enough. If he wants to play for Zambia again let him come out in the open and tell the nation that he wants to play for Zambia. Recently Benni McCarthy told the SAFA that he was sorry and further commited himself to Bafana Bafana, Sinkala has also done the same. Leave Moses alone and let him make his own decision about playing for Zambia. Most people blame FAZ, but how many executives have come and gone and the Sichone saga has still been outstanding?
Big Steve from SA on Mon, 1st Sep 2008 9:58 AM
K Blades, he did that just a couple of weeks ago, he said he was available for a national call up, so tell me if in your opinion this qualifies him for a second chance.
By the way Benni never apologised he just committed to the national team and he has been included. Sorry to say but Bennis ego will not let him apologise for any of his actions so lets not compare because Benni has done by far much worse when it comes to not showing patriotism to bafana bafana and yet because he is one of the best he is in the team and what a marvel he was aganist Ausralia. But us Zambians awe sure, we prefer using jockers like Hachilense to seasoned pros because the pro went to spain in the 1800′s.
Dinamo on Mon, 1st Sep 2008 12:14 PM
Thanx Big Steve for coming to my rescue on this topic.Big Mo recently availed himself for a national team call up & I cant understand why some people are still insisting that he apologises for their perceived evils he committed in 1999-2002.Are you people sure this is really important??.If he wont apologise as you wish then forgive him yourselves so that we move on.What we need is a strong team to take us to the world cup & if a club like Wolfsburg are considering sighning him then that tells us that he can be that exposed player we need to provide experience to our current raw squard.Lets not cheat our selves that the likes of Hachilesa are better than Big Mo.Why are they not in Europe themselves??.And why does the issue of patriotism only comes up to footballers ??
K Blades. on Mon, 1st Sep 2008 1:17 PM
Thanks for the info Big Steve, I didnt know that he had availed himself to Chipolopolo. If he has and proves himself where he is then he should surely be included. What I would not like to see is a player holding a nation to ransome by making unrealistic demands. Personally i think Moses is a good player especially when player as a defensive midfielder as he sometimes did for Nchanga Rangers and FC Cologne.
We should also consider calling in Harry Milanzi, he holds the ball very well and can create chances for the Young Mayuka’s, Kola’s and Sunzu’s.

who has idea on the where abouts of our forgoten son milton tembo?there was talent in that young man

We dont harry milanzi, this no time for poor finishers and tired legs.he had his chance and he failed.let us look at the mayukaz.milanzi is just like nkhetani these 2 are a late down.
