Portugal
2007 Zambian Player of the Year, Rainford Kalaba did not make even the substitute bench for Gil Vicente fc as the Portuguese second division outfit drew 1-1 away against Oliverense in the opening fixture of the 2008/9 season.
Kalaba has been famed out on a season loan from Portuguese Super Liga side, Sporting Braga.
Finland
The Yobe brothers of Dominic and Dornwell, were not in action over the weekend as their club; AC Oulu did not have any fixture. Promotion chasers, Oulu play their league match on August 30.
Both brothers have played 16 matches out of 18 this season, scoring 5 goals each. Oulu is currently placed second with 33 points in the Finnish second division.
In the top flight, the Zambian contingents were on the losing side as RoPS were clashed 3-1. This was RoPS’ fourth successive loss.
Defender Stephen Kunda returned from suspension was in the starting line up alongside Chanda Mwaba, Chileshe Chibwe and Zeddy Saileti.
Talisman Nchiminya Mweetwa is still out injured.
Sweden
Edwin Phiri’s Ljungskile SK beat GIF Sundavall 2-0 to record their second successive win and the struggling side is out of the relegation zone for now.
The 24 year old Phiri played the full match at right full back.
Still in Sweden, Isaac Chansa is available for Helsingborg after featuring for Zambia. Chansa scored from the spot kick on Thursday as he helped the Chipolopolo boys to a 3-0 win.
Helsingborg will play its league match on Wednesday night.
Last weekend’s hatrick hero Boyd Mwila will have to wait for Thursday and hope to add to his goal scoring heroics. Mwila’s Ogryte IF take on Mjallby AIF on Thursday night.
With 10 games left, Ogryte look set for promotion as they are currently top of the second division table.
France
After two successive losses, Jacob Mulenga captained French Ligue 2 side; Berrichonne Chateauroux finally recorded a win, their second this season after beating Aimes 1-0.
Jacob played the full match, his third in a row. And this Friday, Chateauroux is up against unbeaten and league leaders, Racing Strasbourg; were Jacob spent a seasonal loan last season.
Despite returning to France earlier than expected subsequently missing Zambia’s Thursday’s friendly match against Germany amateur side so that he can increase his chances of making the Rennes squad for the weekend, Felix Katongo did not feature in his club’s dramatic 2-1 win over Lille.
Germany
Christopher Katongo played 89 minutes for Arminia Bielefeld but again it was his strike partner Artur Wichniarek who scored and handed Bielefeld a valuable point against Hertha Berlin.
Last weekend, Wichniarek equalized twice as Bielefeld drew 2-2 against Bundesliga giants Werder Bremen.
In Bundesliga 2, Andrew Sinkala completed 90 minutes for FC Augsburg. Augsburg won 3-0 thanks to a brace from Sanders Torghele and Imre Szabics.
South Africa
Davies Nkausu was unluck as his side Supersport United were denied a place by Sundowns in this year’s MTN Top 8 despite winning 3-2 on the night.
United lost the first leg 2-1 and thanks to superior away goal, big spending Sundowns booked a ticket for the final.
Collins Mbesuma did not play while Nkausu put in a splendid performance at right back.

zambianfootball.net u doin a good job, thanx so much,u always has latest information and updating all the time. i wish all the premier league clubs in zambia had wedsites .its hard to market zed clubs if u not hooked to the internet.please zed clubs come up with sites so that u can sell yall replica jerseys on the web hence earning revenue.i love kabwe warriors so much but like the zed national team i dont know where i can buy their replica jerseys.
Its always good to see these updates on how the Zed guys are doing abroad & thumbs up to Zambianfootball.net for the good job they are doing.I think FAZ should consider organsing an international friendly were only the forgotten players in Finland,Sweeden & others like Nkausu,Fyayo Justine Zulu etc will be given a chance to showcase their talents. This should come after the Togo game & I believe we can identify players with the potential to add great value to the current team.
It nice to learn that Jacob Mulenga is a regular at is Club now. My dream line up for the Togo Game would be:
1. kennedy Mweene
2.Davies Nkausu/Edwin Phiri/ Francis Kasonde(anyone but not Hachilesa)
3.Joseph Musonda
4.Billy Mwanza
5. Moses Sichone/Tana
6.Andrew Sikala
7.Rainford Kalaba
8.Isaac Chansa
9.Collins Mbesuma/Jacob Mulenga (who ever is fit on the day)
10.Chris Katongo
11.Felix Katongo
subs:
1.James Chamanga
2.Clifford Mulenga
3.Kola
4.Mayuka
5.Kalililo Kakonje
I also hope FIFA would be able to postpone the game as we are mourning our head of state.
THE SPIRIT OF ZAMBIA WILL LEAAVE ON.
A little surprised that Rainford is not making first team. Thought it would be a piece of cake for a person of his skills at Gil Vicente fc. As for Felix, I hope the duration of him getting first team call ups will not affect his motivation to keep trying. Monk your line up looks good only change I would make would be Chintu for Billy and Hichani would make my substitutes bench.
ZED football theres not enough thank you’s in the world for the good work you are doing here.
As long as the current state of player selection persists, Zambia’s dream of qualifyin to the FIFA WC will not be realised. We have so many players plying their trade in Europe especially those in the scandinavian countries. One would argue that the level os soccer is low. Yes it is low but better than the south african league and of course ours in Zambia. For instance, if Zambia qualifies to the next round, FAZ should summon all potential players. We should have a large pool of players (say 35 to 40) from which the coach chooses the best. This is what normally happens from our brothers from west africa, e.g. Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal etc. The problem is Zambia is that we have a program (located at Football House in Lusaka) which specific chooses specific players that the coach use. Shame.
Thanks Zedfutball for the update.
It worring indeed that Rainford is not playing despite being loaned to lower division team worse still Felix has also not played a single game at Rennes.
It is indeed worrying that F.Katongo & R.Kalaba are not featuring for their respective clubs. However i think it would have been impossible for these guys to play over the weekend. The guys were out for a week and did train with their friends.Other wise the guys who trained would feel offended if these guys featured unless you are a Lionel Messi or something.
Though i believe Felix will take a bit of time to walk into the Rennes starting 11.The have tremendous players and Felix is among the 9 foreign players at the club. For the club to keep Felix i think the know the potential in the player.
They haven’t loaned him,he just has to keep working hard he is still young.
It’s really worrying for the duo especially for felix.
Lets imagine if both players were invited by their respective clubs (Rennes & Sporting Braga) for TRIALS initially
I don’t think they could ve been signed on a permanent deals…..reason is the training methods improred by clubs in Zambia are different to our Euro counterparts.
wat the local clubs do on training is run; ifilayilayi!!!!! And when our boys go to Europe they lack the tactical ability despite possessing the skill i.e both Kalaba & Felix are skillful….
As long we don’t improve and uprade our coaching levels, our boys won’t make the grade or pass trials…Mayuka, Kola, Sunzu, Clifford, Seba Mwansa have failed trials in France, Portugal en Germany.
Lets also invest in coaching……..Kalampa 4 life.
I for one am happy for this site, its great site for Zed soccer update.
Kalampa ni devil, your point here is solid. It goes back to coaching methods as well. Our boys are born with the talent, this element is in their blood, God given, but as for the science in todays game, this is coached into the players and that is what is lacking I also believe. Our coaches are not equiped enough to train players on the proffesional level the game is at today. This 1 month in Germany 2 weeks in England thing should not be seen as the training the coaches need. This should be addiotional training over and above the actual training.
Thanks zedfootball.
This issue with Felix and Rainford is exactly what I was saying a few weeks ago when people were complaining that some of the boys were invited for trials in Cyprus. They were saying that the Cypriot league isn’t good enough and it was a waste of time going there. Well, as we can see with both Rainford and Felix, the more established European leagues aren’t a joke. We think that our boys can walk into those sides just because they do well when playing for Zed? The guys need time to adjust and learn European football, that is why I think it is good that the boys go to smaller leagues first and if they are good enough and work hard they will be picked up by bigger teams.
Ba Whisper, Yes let them go to smaller leagues but not Cyprus. Let say Norway, Sweden, Danemark, Finland, Russian and maybe second division in France, Portugal, Italy, Germany and probably England though I doubt it if they can be granted work permits in the later.
As for the players please Renard give chance to Edwin Phiri, Davies Nkausu, Boyd Mwila etc
Whisper, dont shun the big Leagues. Truly our boys have a lot to learn before they make it big. Both these boys are learning a lot in these teams and once they get refined they will break into their respective first teams. It may take some time but am optimistic it will happen. So there is no need of rushing to Cyprus when there’s an opening in a big league.
zambian players shud not be rushed to play abroad coz they dont even warm those seats on the bench.why shud they be xperinced and reliable wen they dont even play.let them jst come back hom.
The biggest problem is Our Football Administrators. They like reaping where do do not sow.The demand very high transfer fees for our developing players which makes it impossible for big European teams to get the Boys.Example,we recently heard that Kabwe Warriors refused the fee Porto FC offered for young Mayuka;saying it was too little for a player of Mayuka’s calibre. We hear our Coleagues from West Africa send these Boys to European clubs for Development, why not Zambia?.We like money too much, and hinder the development of these Players.By Now,we could have Mayuka,Fwayo,Mwansa,Kola and many of the ‘Class of 2007′ playing in developmental teams in Europe and thereafter being poached by Bid Clubs like Arsenal,Man U,Madrid etc.Let us think again, money is never enough.
Everyone needs to relax and be patient. If the guys are good enough they will break the starting 11. Just because they play for the national team does not mean they will walk up to these other clubs and command starting positions. It simply does not work that way, they have to earn it only great players can make that quantum leap and sorry to say but these guys are not there yet. When Issac Chansa went to Sweden he was on the bench the first year learning and waiting for his time…….how far he has come! Question for anyone out there, Why is Edwin Phiri not in the national team or being called up? He is playing in a decent European league and starting on a regular basis facing strikers who are pretty potent and skilled! Just a thought i had………
