UNZA Student’s under-20 ‘dream’ continues

August 25th, 2008

University of Zambia, UNZA student, Isaac Chiposo’s fairytale has continued after being named in an 18-member squad Zambia national under-20 soccer team for this year’s invitation Canberra Youth Cup in Australia which starts on Saturday.

Chiposo (pictured above in white jersey), student in the school of Natural Science made his league debut for FAZ division two midlands side K-Stars this year and has immediately made an impact.

Earlier this month, the midfielder cum striker featured for Kitwe based Afrisports FC as a guest player in the Supersport Under-19 invitation tournament in South Africa.

Chiposo is one of the three uncapped players at junior level in the squad.

The team is scheduled to leave tomorrow.

Major absentees in the team include Zanaco trio of Chisamba Lungu, Yorum Mwila and Luka Tembo, Tom Bakala of Nchanga Rangers, Zesco United’s John Chinga’ndu and injured Lameck Tembo of Lusaka Celtic.

While Mwila and Luka Tembo are believed to be in South Africa trying to secure professional deals, talented and skillful winger Chisamba Lungu has been left out due to ‘altitude problem’ according to some sources.

Chipolopolo Boys quartet of Rodger Kola, Emmanuel Mayuka, Stophira Sunzu and Banda ‘Thierry’ Henry have been excused after being with the senior team in Germany but are still part of the technical bench’s plans led by Oswald Mutapa.

Zulu is gearing up for the new season which kickoff this Saturday. The 19 year old signed a five year contract with an Isreali second division side Hapoel Beer Sheva in July.

While Israel based midfielder Justine Zulu’s involvement in the junior squad is still unknown. Zulu captained the Zambia to a 1-0 win over Mauritius in the previous round.

Zambia is using the Canberra Youth Cup to prepare for next month’s crucial 2009 African Youth Cup qualifier against Egypt.

That is good for him. And I believe that from his age being U-20, he should be in 1st or 2nd year at UNZA. He is in the School of Natural Sciences, one of thehardest schools at UNZA. I am speaking from experience as I have gone through NS. I wonder how he’s gonna manage his studies at UNZA on the other hand playing professional football. If he was mu fikwakwa (Humanities), I can understand. Good luck young man.

I agree Billy, it a little hard to imagine playing pro soccer and coming through the cramming in NS. Anyway this is good for him just hope he still is putting his studies first as they will last for his life as for pro soccer, it is at the most a 15 year career.
I would like to see Chiposa play though I wonder why he in particular is getting this attention is it becuase hhis at campus??

Its not easy to combine soccer with stidies even at high school level. The fact that Chiposo is at UNZA and playing football seriously will be even harnder for the lad.

Billy you can`t have it easy even in the school of Humanities and it is not really Fikwakwa for some courses under Humanities , you should know that better having passed through UNZA.

I wish the lad good luck even though I would like him to concentrate more on school first.

Dazz, I believe the tournament is a Canberra Youth Cup. Did you read the article up to the bottom? Obviously the tournament will be in Canberra. You should know that place better since you there. Chiao.
