Renard recalls HH, & W.Njobvu

July 22, 2008

Zambia national team coach  Herve Renard has recalled back Lusaka Dynamos’ dynamic duo of Hichani Himonde and William Njobvu to his squad preparing for this Sunday’s Cosafa Senior Challenge quarter final against Zimbabwe.

The towering Hichani makes a return to the squad after being dropped from the home win over Swaziland while midfielder Njobvu earns his first call up under the Frenchman after recovering from a knee injury.

With Chintu Kampamba withdrawing from camp (left for Dubai yesterday) and Elijah Tana being late down by his ageing and tired legs, Renard had no option but to recall back the highly rated, agile and tall centre back.

In Njobvu’s case, it’s a question of ‘raw midfielders’ ; Green Eagles’ Kebby Hachipuka is poised to travel but this is his first time he will represent Zambia at any level while Francis Kasonde of Power Dynamos and Young Arrows’ Whiteson Simwanza are both centrebacks by trade but Renard has hinted at using them in midfiled.

The trio are defensive minded and with communication breakdown between FAZ and Ian Bakala, the 2007 World Youth Cup graduate, Njobvu has found himself in the puzzle.

The energetic midfielder scored for his club over the weekend and he is the only box to box midfielder Zambia has at the moment.

The duo has to impress in today’s training sessions.

Players in Camp

Goalkeepers: William Chibale (Lusaka Dynamos) & Mike Poto (Green Buffaloes)

Strikers: Morgan Kaoma (City of Lusaka), Rodger Kola (Zanaco), Felix Sunzu (Konkola Blades), Emmanuel Mayuka (Kabwe Warriors) & Francis Kombe (Power Dynamos)

Do you think Herve Renard has enough time to asses each and every player, looking at the rate he has been handing players call ups this week? Maybe he could have done that last week; anyway he was on holiday in his native country last week. Have Your Say

I think Renard can assess player one or two days, its a matter of a fitness trainer to tell him which player is fit or not, what remains is system and fomation to the game and assessing players Psychological preparedness. He can do all these in two days

Of course he can, but it’s not ideal. We have to remember that now is the time try out some things that we might not have under pressure! So it means giving chances to certain players and not necessarily the ones we know can perform.

Tana deserves an honorable farewell, if he is on his way out from the national side, he deserves to go out on a high. Not just for him, but for the sake of all future players who make it as far as he has done.

Why is he ignoring Kennedy mudenda ? Tana was included because of Kalu’s influence but now Renard has seen that Tana has served this country to the best of his ability and there is little more value he can add now.

Ba Kolokombwa are you sure Tana came in on the basis of Kalu? what of the Oranges and Apples comment? I however am compelled to agree with seen from afar, i think it would be a bad idea to allow Tana play for the last time, i think we owe him that and seeing as he is the most experienced in the team it would also be of immense value to HH, Nyambe, William etc.

He may be the boss but i do not agree with the manner he is handling senior players partcularily those that have served this country honourably like Tana.Surely is it necessary to tell the press what he said while Tana is still in camp with him?In case you do not expect Tana to run as fast some young players but you surely can expect him to bring some experience to the team just as he has done at Nchanga Rangers (He is on 3 goals so far).
Some players are slow like Campbell at Portmouth but very good markers,Elijah Litana was a slow defender even at his peak but very effective in territorial defending(Good man markers). So please lets drop these issues of humiliating players in the press and release them honourably, after all some players like Tana deserve a good testimonial send off like Nigeria did for Jay Jay okocha.

We must understand that Renard is new and as a coach he still needs to have a look at has many players as possible. To do this he cant call everyone at once coz its not easy to asses a big number & when he finds some guys raw he has to recall better players he has already seen like in the case of HH. For William Njovu,he is Lwandamina’s student & I guess he must have advised coz after the departure of Kalaba to Portugal, William must be the most suitable player to fill any gap in this role.

Renard may be wrong in hjis dismissal of players, but more questionable are his call-ups, i share a question with kolok… why ignore Kennedy Mudenda? he is an excellent and decisive inclusion in our team i believe.

Tana? í have no comment but thank God he found William Njobvu. that young man is the backbone of the future, with proper tutilage he can be the zambian abu traika or Kaka or Okocha. he has the talent and the humility, replacement player? he is better that those he replaces in my view.
