Renard urged to include Milanzi for Cosafa Senior Cup

July 14, 2008

The Zambia Volunteer Soccer fans Associations (ZAVOSOFA) has urged National Football Team coach Herve Renard to include Harry Milanzi into the senior team as it prepares for the senior COSAFA quarter finals against Zimbabwe.ZANIS sports reports ZAVOSOFA patron Peter Makembo saying in an interview, Monday, the Renard led coaching bench should call Milanzi who is plying his footballing skills neighbouring Angola.Paster Makembo said the senior team’s coaching bench should also call German based Moses Sichone and Dan Haangunyu who is also based in Angola.

He said with the addition of the three players into the national team, Zambia’s scoring chances would be enhanced.

The local media in Angola reports Hangunyu as one of the leading scorers in the local league of that country.

The ZAVOSOFA patron said with the inclusion of the three players in the team, Zambia’s chipolopolo boys will stand a better chance of winning the championship for the record four times compared to Angola and Zimbabwe who have each one the cup three times.

The team regrouped Sunday night in Lusaka and started training for the quarter finals for the game against Zimbabwe under the tutelage of assistant coach George Lwandamina.

Renard is expected to join the team Saturday from a holiday in France.

All these guys should be called for firstly an assesment. This is whhat this tournament should be used for, assesmment and new talent/player identification for the National team. This is the one tournament that offers a massive opportunity to the coach to pick new big game players. Though it would be great to win the team in my oopinion should have non of the regulars. This is the platfoorm to use to see who is hungry enough to stake a claim in the nationall team set up. In any case how are Harry and Dube Phiri doing in Angola??
Lastly I sense a beginning of a shove players down the coaches throat here. Though we can chip in with names, lets allways be clear that the selection is entirely a tech bench decision.

My opinion is that Harry and Danny should not be called back, i think their time came and went, its unfortunate that we still want to experiment, i think we have enough talent that just needs to be nurtured, the U 20 squad of the Canadian World cup, and ofcourse the new discoveries should be given a chance. I agree that we need some experience but not at the expense of developing the youth, brining in Danny would mean Felix, Clifford, Rainford, Mayuka, Mudenda, Mkandawire will not get a chance to play, they helped the country in their hay says let them now concentrate on ensuring a good life after retirement

I would like to agree with Spaks that some of these players have served the nation and its time to try other players. Milanzi is almost 30 or over 30 years. Can Makembo tell us how many games has Milanzi played and how many goals has he scored. On Danny yes he is one of the top scores in Angola but i would rather have a player from our local league than someone in Angola. Now we have recalled Bakala who i have to say has served the nation faithfully in the past. Why not give that opportunity to a player like Mudenda or the Henry Banda (Zanaco)who is are of the future of Zambian football.
Yes we have a scoring problem but players called like F.Sunzu Jnr & F.Kombe are enough .Reinard will end up confused cos he has seen a lot of players come in and dropped. No wonder the coach has even forgotten about Mudenda cos he has seen a lot of players in his 60 days or so in office.

    Good Analysis Sibs

‘No wonder the coach has even forgotten about Mudenda cos he has seen a lot of players in his 60 days or so in office’

Renard is contradicting himself. A few weeks he said he wasn’t going to include Tana, Sichone and Sinkala because they are too old but today Tana has been recalled.

Lets see if Sichone will be chance….i doubt. Sichone and Kalu are not in good terms.

I agree with Sibs about Mudenda and Henry Banda… good point.

I’m glad some of the ‘older’ guys are getting a chance to show something as well. Glad that clubless Billy and Kapamba will be there. It will be an interesting mix of players. I think we must be hoping to further some of the playing experience of certain players by giving them key roles, solidifying the back, winning.

  6. Lovely shot on Tue, 15th Jul 2008 12:23 PM

Circle after another circle, and we have again start another one, by the time we finish it, it will be 2010 and Zambia will be missing there

We, in zambia do not distiguish between age and experience. Another factor we forget is that these player are not of the age we know then to be, today Milanzi is said to be +-30, but he looks much older than Lovely Shot who is 37

Am getting worried, this circle should not be allowed to continued, fans will now starting calling for the inclusion of Kalusha

PLEASE LET SOME ONE BE IN CHARGE

LET US GET PEOPLE TO ANGOLA AND ELSEWHERE WHERE OUR PLAYERS ARE PLYING THEIR TRADE IN ORDER TO HAVE INFORMED DECISIONS ABOUT SOME OF THESE NAMES BEING FLOATED. WE NEED TO MONITER OUR PLAYERS ON A CONSITENT BASIS. FOR EXAMPLE, GIVEN SINGULUMA WAS CALLED BUT WAS NOT EVEN AMONG SUSTITUTES USED AGAINST AK FC BY BAY UNITED. LINOS AND SASHI CHALWE PLAYED ON OPPOSING SIDES BUT HAD A GAME TO FORGET. LINOS MISSED A PENALY AND A CLEAR ONE ON ONE CHANCE. ZAMBIANS AND SCORING…. SASHI FOULED A PLAY UNDER PANIC WHICH HIS BROTHER OF COURSE MISSED.

  8. Mwape on Tue, 15th Jul 2008 2:45 PM

Danny could not make the grade when he was in Z what makes you think he can play now. Milanzi’s past his prime thats why he is always just drinking in Chilenje at BUTTLERS while hie friends Tana, Kilambe, Dabwitso, Gift kapamba, Matsauso are trying to discver there form of yesteryears

  9. Zulu on Tue, 15th Jul 2008 5:38 PM

Guys,we need players with stamina as well, not just skill. Most of these players we have only posses skill and when they meet big guys eg,Cameroon, they cant match. So,players like mudenda only posses skill. Most leagues in Europe want both skill and power both in the air and on the ground.

  10. spaks on Tue, 15th Jul 2008 7:10 PM

Ba Zulu, i beg to differ, what do we mean when we say stamina, i hope its not physical strength associated with body build, it has to do in my opinion with endurance and the ability to withstand pressure, Deco, Messi,Ronaldo, Fabregas are all the same body build more or less with Mudenda, Allan Mukuka, Judge Mkandawire so i dont think that is the issue if you scroll upwards you will not i said we do need experience and that we have in the likes of Tsunami, Isaac Chansa, Billy, Joseph Musonda, i personally would include Tana to enable him teach something to Hichani, Nyambe mulenga, william chinyama but the rest have seen their time and gone, youth development is the key, we dont need to start experimenting now, cosafa and CHAN teams should be the nursery for the 2011, look at how we came up with the now late 1993 team, progression, basically 3 different grupos made one hell of a team, so we have the class of billy and chris, then the group of clifford and rainford and now the group of mudenda and mayuka, wat more do you want???????

Milanzi ain’t got no game ! Keep him away from the National team training ground. Even in his younger days, the guy couldn’t score with – any consistancy – in International matches.

Where is Masauso Tembo, Dabwitso Nkhoma and Sandrous Kumwenda these days? Anyone knows and are the still playing?

  13. Mwape on Wed, 16th Jul 2008 12:14 PM

Killen !!! Masauso Tembo is at Lusaka Dynamos, Dabwitso at Zanaco and sandrous at Petauke Bullets

  14. Dinamo on Wed, 16th Jul 2008 4:06 PM

Zulu is my man, skill has to be combined with stamina if we are to win any big tourneys. On future players, in 1999 when the under 20 played at the world cup people said we had the team for the future.9 yrs down the line only Chintu,Bakala and Sinkala are active players and we are saying they are old & we need to focus on making the team for the future. How many times are we going to do this?.Teams like Ghana,Ivory coast & Mali used their 99 class as a turning point and to day we admire Essien , Menssah & Diarra when we can’t account for the likes of Mbambara,Mulife Sitali,Emma Zulu & others we prepared for the future which is now the present.I think its time we utilised what we have either old or new so long we at least play to win then the next AFCON

  15. woodpecker on Wed, 16th Jul 2008 5:41 PM

Does anyone know where these players are, Mbambara and crew from the youth world cup of 99. please let us know.

  16. Dinamo on Wed, 16th Jul 2008 7:08 PM

To answer woodpecker’s request to know the whereabouts of the 1999 class that played aganist the likes of Ronaldinho,Adriano, Ze Roberto,Casilas & Guti etc at the Nigeria under 20 world cup.Mbambara,Emma Zulu& Amon Simutowe stopped playing.Milton Tembo is rumored to be in Germany.Makufi is in Sweeden but stopped playing due to injury,Chaswe died.Japhet Makayi & Stanly Mumba are extra laggage at Zesco,Gerald Sakala’s whereabouts not known.Mulife sitali is playing in Swaziland,Gift Kampamba is at ‘Kalampa’,Chintu is active & currently with Chipolopolo,Sinkala is in Germany and Ezzie Lundu was at ‘Kalampa’ last season.Hope the class 07 will be gurded propery to avoid what has happened to these guys

who ever thinks sichone is too old to play they dont know anything about sichone he can play very well and no problems with any team in africa hes been a player with ambitions but like i said zambian soccer has been turned into bussiness ,then people with a ambitions withdraw , so stop pin pointing and fight to get rid off the businessmen thats what has hit zambian soccer the last 10 years

  18. Dinamo on Fri, 9th Jan 2009 10:30 AM

Big KUNDE nice to hear from you.I share the same views with you on Sichone he is the experience we need in our defence. Are you still in the States? & what are still in football or doing something else?

  19. Big Steve from SA on Fri, 9th Jan 2009 11:53 AM

Peter Chitila nice to hear from you. I would also like to know whats happening with you.

  20. Big Steve from SA on Fri, 9th Jan 2009 11:58 AM

I agree about Big Mo. We just dont have players like big mo anymore in the national set up. The sad thing is that we have a coach who listens to people who have beef with big mo and as such he is not called to camp. It took almost a march to Football house for sinkala to be called. I agree with you peter, these days Football house is a business, it is an agency for shady player sales/deals. It is not about making Zambia a great footballing nation.

  21. Amuna Onzuna on Fri, 9th Jan 2009 12:32 PM

I think Sichone has an atitude problem, thats why he is slowly sinking down even where he is in Germany. He has been a good player, but the fact that,he is being released by clubs, speaks volumes about this player. We might as well cry foul when he comes.I believe, discipline is the most important aspect in a Player. As For Milanzi,Im sure, everybody knows his abilities, but he seems to be in the afternoon of his career. We can easily substitute him with other versitile young Plyers around.
