Will Lamisha emulate his father; Charles Musanda?

July 14th, 2008

In recent weeks there has been talk about the possible inclusion of former KK XI’ s midfield maestro Charles ‘Charlie cool’ Musonda’s son, Lamisha in the Zambia Under-20.

Former International midfielder now based in Belgium, Lucky Msiska and veteran coach Borniface Simutowe have endorsed Lamisha’s selection and Junior Chipolopolo trainer Oswald Mutapa has promised to give a call up to the 17 year old in Zambia’s next assignment most probably against Egypt in the 2009 African Youth Championship.

Like Father, Like Son

They say growing up under the shadow of a sports super star Dad comes with a lot of pressure due to high expectations. Many Zambian soccer legends such as Dick Makwaza, Dick Chama, Freddie Mwila, Alex Chola and more recently Emmanuel Munaile to just name a few could not raise boys who would at the very least replicate their fathers’ renown soccer talents…

Dick Makwaza’s son Linos was part of the Chipolopolo squad in the early nineties; remember a thunderbolt from the edge of penalty box in the 3-0 thrashing of Bafana Bafana in 1993.

Fred Mwila Snr’s son Fred Jnr is now academic coach in Egypt; He was part of the late Ben Bamfuchile’s 2000-2002 squad which went unbeaten in African qualifiers and and more recently Emmanuel Munaile’s son Musonda made his under-20 international debut in the 2-0 win over Mauritius on Sunday.

Efford Chabala amd Estone Mulenga’s sons are with local premier league teams. Nyambe Mulenga is with Zesco United and Freeman Chabala is on the books of Lusaka Dynamos.

Charles Musonda is hailed by many as Zambia?s best ever attacking mid-fielders, who was the unsung hero of an architect behind the success of Kalusha Bwalya. The name Charles Musonda brings me priceless nostalgia, as I reflect a weekend some 20 years ago, listening to an ITT Supersonic 2 Band Radio in which a crisp Dennis Liwewe voice would emanate; Young Charles Musonda, Mufulira Wonderers??.and Zambia! It?s a goooaaaal!
Should the Lord tarry, there shall be another Musonda headlining Zambian soccer, and beyond, by the name of Lamisha Musonda.

Charles has been reincarnated into his oldest son; 17 year old Lamisha, who plays midfield for The Royal Sporting Club of Anderlect reserves. As one can easily see, one of Zambia?s next stars, Lamisha is officially playing some two years ahead of the game, literally.

Lamisha was one of two soccer starlets chosen from Belgium, among other countries, to film a soccer documentary entitled Really Bend It Like Beckham in Madrid Spain, with non other than David Beckham himself.

The international stage is already set for Lamisha in his frequent soccer matches all around Europe. Lamisha has a dream of playing for Zambia in 2010 when the Soccer World Cup is held in South Africa. Well, time and chance may not exactly be on his side, but he definitely has a bright future.

Not too far behind both in talent and in age, Lamisha’s younger brothers; 13 year old Tika and 11 year old Musonda are quite a spectacle to watch on the soccer field as well. No one can discount the possibility that nature has bestowed the Musonda Family with the soccer gene, but the nurture provided by supportive mom Angela and Charles himself go a very long way in the manifestation of the said talents.

It is without a doubt that even if the Musonda family soccer dreams were not realized, Charles and Angela will raise responsible boys into productive young men. We as a people of Zambia shall not relinquish our soccer dreams to pessimism.

For without a dream, without a vision, we perish. As has done many a Zambian in various fields, the Musonda family will do Zambia proud as they are poised to excel, in soccer, and in life as a whole.

I dont understand why we keep on dragghng the inclusion of Lamisha into any of our young teams. The likes of Mayuka,Kola,Stophira and other talented young players are in the same age group with Lamisha and its important that he blends with them

Here we go again heaping praise after praise before we even see what the kid is made of. I think it is good he gets a call up and then from there we can make the call on weather the boy is praise worthy or not. In any case this sort of publicity is not exactly good for the kid cause it will cause unecessary pressure on him to live upto expectation which I should say has been set rather high. Is he Charles Musonda? No, unless Charles was cloned. Is he Lamisha, Yes!! give the young man time to prove himself and blend with the rest of the boys, stop this paparrazi nonsense. This is the same press that will lambast should the boy not live to expectation. Let him be and he will shine.

First of all is the Father willing that the son plays for any of the Zambian youth teams? All i have heard is Lucky and Coach Simutowe ask for his inclusion. So far we have heard nothing from Charles though i would also like to see the young man prove himself in a friendly game for the Zambia U17’s or U20’s.Most of these players born out of the country would want to play for European National teams. In conlcusion it would be good to see the boy play for Zambia if he meets the grade cos after all he is Zambian.

He is just 17, his life is Beligum. It’s great that he dreams to play for Zambia. Maybe the time is not exactly now, but he should get called to play/trial for an Under-20 side at some point. People have talked about this, so i hope it can happen and is organized well.

Atleast maybe he already knows how to trap a ball, some of these players lack even the basics the time they are called up to the junior squads.

John, “Musonda cannot be Musanda!!”……Musonda being a Bemba name and Musanda a Tonga one….am sure its one of those typing errors.

People, the lad is only 17! Plse, let the Tech bench give him a chance to prove himself. I totally support this motion. Remember what happend with Jeff Witely, I think he was playing for Cardif at the time. We need to utilise this boy’s talents, woza 2010

Look at the potential before anything else. Thats the problem us Zambians have once the is an imaging player, Everyone expects them to deliver straight away. If he is included in the under 20 for sure he will need time to adjust and indeed blend inn. This is a kid who was amongst two kids picked to participate in Spain and above that is coming from a well structured youth development programme that can not be compared to any in Zambia. He is one for the future and may just be our main man should we qualify for SA 2010.

Realistically he will end up playing for Belgium instead as I am sure he has dual nationality.

This is the best time to tap talent for the World Cup 2010 from any Zambian where ever they can be in the world. Lets give it a shot, you never know the next ”Ronoldinho” can be Zambian.
