Kalampa fall to Y/Arrows

Young Arrows 2-0 Nkana

Young Arrows regained top position on goal difference heading into the mid-season break ahead of Green Buffaloes who won their early kick-off game against Nkwazi. Green Buffaloes won by a goal to nil against fellow service men Nkwazi at Lusaka’s Woodlands Stadium.

Young Arrows started the match strongly with winger Lyainga Chiwanki and stand-in midfielder Whiteson Simwanza going close in the first 20 minutes.

Nkana then found their feet and finished the half strongly but were unable to trouble the Arrows keeper. Teenage sensation Allan Mukuka turned on the show with a bit of trickery on the stroke of half time but his end ball was snuffed out by an impressive Benard Kunda.

Green Buffaloes coach George Lwandamina appeared at half time and joined fellow Chipolopolo technical bench colleagues, Herve Renard and Patrice Beamulle in the stands.

Lwandamina was in a bouyant mood especially after hearing of the stalemate, his appearance brought with it news of Buffaloes success and spurred Arrows to life.

On 70 minutes, Simwanza intercepted a pass and lobbed the ball over the defenders for an onrushing Chomba who caught the ball in his stride before rounding the Nkana keeper and slotting home between the legs of a retreating defender.

Arrows then showed intent to finish off the game with Chiwanki and Judge M’kandawire shooting wide and the two men put on an impressive display. Second only to Simwanza’s man of the match performance.

Veteran substitute Douglas Chiwaya almost equalised for the Wusakile boys but his cheeky volley was tipped over acrobatically.

From the corner, Kalampa centre-back Whiteson Phiri headed passed the keeper caught in no mans’ land and started celebrating before he was rudely cut short by a brilliant piece of defending by Kunda. Kunda reacted quickest and charged the ball down clearing of the line not a moment too soon.

The Wusakile faithful reacted by throwing misslies onto the pitch and interrupted play for several minutes,as they strongly felt that it should have been counted as a goal.

Play was resumed and Arrows took control. In the 94th minute, again it was the trio of Simwanza, Chiwanki and M’kandawire that were involved for the airmen.

Simwanza picked out Chiwanki with a clean pass and Chiwanki played the ball into space for Judge to run onto, and the young winger confidently slotted the ball home and sealed three points and top position for the Airmen.
