Chipolopolo centreback Billy Mwanza has attributed his absence from Golden Arrows’ starting line up last season due to persistent hamstring he suffered at the Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations.
Crowd favaurite Billy Mwanza at Queensmead Stadium last Thursday. The former Lusaka Dynamos ace was visiting his old pals.
With the emergence of 21 year old rookies Hichani Himonde and Nyambe Mulenga on the local scene plus that of fellow South African based Chintu Kampamba of Free State Stars, the 25 year old position as the first choice centre back was under threat.
“I had torn muscle which I suffered at the Afcon against Cameroon.
“I only started running last month and I was involved in the last two games,’’ the former Lusaka Dynamos ace said
But despite just featuring twice for Golden Arrows since the Cameroon match in Ghana, Chipolopolo trainer Herve Renard retained faith in the tough tackling defender and named him captain for the Iran and Libya friendlies in the absence of Chris Katongo.
“Renard is a fine and very good coach. He gives his players confidence,’’ he said about the Frenchman.
On the mouthwatering match against Togo on September 6 slated for Chililabombwe’s Konkola Stadium, the crowd favaurite was confident the Chipolopolo will triumph over Emmanuel Adebayor’s Hawks.
“Nowadays there are no favourites, every team is beatable.
“With the kind of quality we have in the squad and the home crowd advantage, I’m confident will beat Togo,’’ he told Zambianfootball.net
Is the partnership of Billy & Chintu Kampamba at central defence the best? Please leave your comments.

No, though Billy is good I think he is one of those players that has done his time with the National team. I stand to be corrected but his performance at Afcon as compared to Chintu was way below required standard and Hichani is a better option in my opinion.
