ZambiaNational team Under-20 trainer, Oswald Mutapa Jnr has named a relatively strong squad for this Sunday’s 2009 African Youth Championship qualifier against Mauritius.
Mutapa has handed the captain armband to Justine Zulu in the absence of Stophira Sunzu who has been promoted to the senior squad
Mutapa who was the first assistant to the ‘2007 Golden Generation’ head coach George Lwandamina has only retained the services of influential midfielder Justine ‘The Wadrobe’ Zulu from the squad that reached the last 16 at the World Youth Cup.
In his 18 man squad, Zanaco exciting trio of Chisamba Lungu, Banda ‘Thiery’ Henry and former U/17 captain Yorum Mwila.
Other notable inclusion are Nchanga Rangers ace Tom Bakala and anchorman Nathan Sinkala of Green Buffaloes.
Isreal based and Zulu’s teammate at Hapoel sheer Sheva, Bitwell Phiri, Mufulira Blackpool sensation Alex Mwiche and Evans Musonda of City of Lusaka failed to make the grade in a competitive battle to represent the junior chipolopolo.
Another surprise omission is Zanaco left back Luka Tembo who was part of the Cosafa U/20 Challenge in December last year.
Full Squad;
GoalKeepers;William Chibale(Lusaka Dynamos) & Kelvin Kabwe(Zanaco)
Defenders;Jimmy Chisenga(Red Arrows),Lameck Tembo(Lusaka Celtic), Derick Mwansa(Nkwazi), Boyd Chipeta(Lusaka Dynamos), Moses Mulambyia( Nchanga Rangers) Micheal Katongo(Kabwe Warriors)
Midfielders;Musonda Munaile(Young Zanaco), Nathan Sinkala( Green Buffaloes), Henry Banda, Chisamba Lungu(Both Zanaco), John Ching’andu(Zesco United), Tom Bakala(Nchanga Rangers) & Justine Zulu (Hapoel sheer Sheva, Isreal).
Strikers: Yorum Mwila(Zanaco), Morgan Kaoma, Daniel Kasongo
Do you think this U/20 squad can emulate the ‘Class of 07′ which included the likes of Rodger Kola, Fwayo Tembo, Emmanuel Mayuka, William Njobvu & Nyambe Mulenga?

Without Kola, Mayuka I don’t see them doing what last year’s group did.
Is the match going to on Znbc TV.
I don’t understand the rationale of excluding Mayuka and Kola just because they are in the senior team. I would think that we should name the strongest squad, and as these squads make it to the world stage to showcase their talents, we would have more players playing in the bigger leagues. Ultimately its about exposure.
Renard believes other players should take Mayuka & Kola’s places as they have already graduated to the national team.
Just wondering what happens if we meet the likes of Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon etc……recall them so that we can qualify to major tourney.
Cameroon used Arsenal’s Alexander Song at the African Youth Championship in Congo last year.
With FAZ , I assume the Kaumba SAGA ll prevail when Clifford Mulenga & Kalaba were omitted from Under 23 squad.
We need our strongest players if they are eligible!!!!!!
Steve, I couldn’t agree with you more. We have to realize that to make it to big stage we need our best elgible players. At big tournaments is where most of these players will be more likely to be spotted by the big clubs of this world. My worry is that if we do not feature our best players, they will not get the opportunity to showcase their abundant talents.
Mwana, Gibson.
How is our players doing in Angola. I mean the Harry Milanzi, Bakala, Dube Phiri
it is a well balanced side
We didnot know about Mayuka or kola, until the african cup and world cup, let wait and see ,what these player will do, let give them a chance
Lets wait and see the experimental squad result.i will be at the stadium watching the mutapa football formulae.
