For the first time since taking over the reign as Chipolopolo trainer on May 16, Herve Renard will atleast have time to asses Zambian players.
Barely 24 hours after recording his first victory as Chipolopolo coach, the Frenchman was at Railway Grounds watching Emmanuel Mayuka’s Kabwe Warriors 2-2 draw with 11 time league winners Nkana.
Instead of waiting for this Weekend’s matches, Renard is back on the pitch, this time as a ‘Technical Advisor’ to the Zambia Under-20 preparing for 2009 African Youth Cup qualifier.
“I have a passion for the pitch and I want to extend it to the Under-20,” he told Zambianfootball.co.cc at Nkoloma Stadium.
”I am happy they have a friendly against Young Arrows.
”It will afford me the chance to see some players in the U/20 and Young Arrows as well. Arrows are topping the table(FAZ/KCM League table) so they have good players,” he added.

When quizzed about which Under-20 players has impressed him, the 39 year old was diplomatic.
”I have seen a good player but the squad is very important maybe I will name him on Sunday afternoon,” he smiled.
Zambia U/20 will face Mauritius on Saturday in the first leg of the 2009 African Youth Cup.

i received the sentiments by coach renard that mayuka and kola shouldnt be part of the under 20 team that takes on mauritius with mixed feelings. in my view, those boys still need more exposure at that level to translate to national duty for they are still raw as any sane person can observe esp at higher level like national team. on the other hand, i hope the under 20 coach mutapa jr isnt being compromised in his drilling of the team. He needs the autonomy he deserves and in my usual view, he is capable of doing that with his coaching team at that level after all he is a coach. let renard concentrate on his national team unlike compromising the the much needed freedom of osward mutapa. Renard shouldnt relax after scoring that win; as a matter of fact, he still has insumountable work to do. For example, its high time he cast his net wider and come up with a real team. People like mbesuma should be called unlike throwing unnecessary adjectives at him such as he is unfit and all the insults. He is capable of perfoming better than these raw boys! Andrew must also be included to shield our frail mid field so as ian bakala as the match maker. thats why even if Diouf didnt play a lot of football in the english league last season, he is still in the senegalese team and scores-they know how vital the qualifiers are for they are not jokers like zambians. Renard please give us team that will restore our soccer pride. We are fed up with your team’s inabilty not only to score but also play the game considering the flow of modern football. Lwandamina showed us at under 20 that zambia can play fancy footbal. i end here but will continue to critisize until things are corrected with our team because i happen to be a passionate fan of zambian football
