Chamanga was given the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award but was a goal short of the 15-goal mark set by ABSA to receive the R50,000 (about K22.5 million) prize.

However, ABSA paid Chamanga R1,000 (about K450,000) for each of the 14 goals he scored in the league as a token of appreciation for his efforts..

Last week, Chamanga, who signed an eight-month contract with China Super League club, Dalian Haichang, was named Moroko Swallows’ Player of the Season and Top Scorer to pick up R30,000 (about K13.5 million) for the two accolades.-Times of Zambia

Pressure is on Togo – Renard
And the Zambia Daily Mail’s wrote NATIONAL team coach Herve Renard says pressure will be on Togo in this Saturday’s 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier because they have a better profile having played at the 2006 World Cup.

“We have trained hard for the game against Togo and we will play for a win. We want to start the qualifiers with a win so that we are motivated for the other qualifying games,” the Frenchman said.

The last meeting between the two teams ended with Togo winning 4-1 in Lome in 2005.

Meanwhile, France-based winger Jacob Mulenga was last Friday operated on his nose which broke after he was elbowed by a Racing Stransbourg teammate during training.

“I’m feeling much better although I’m breathing through the mouth. I will be going to the hospital on Tuesday or Wednesday to have the cotton removed from the nose,” said Mulenga in an interview from France.
He hoped to join the national team for the game against Swaziland on June 14.

Under-20 impress ‘Mourinho’.…as team draw 1-1 with Saudis

UNDER-20 national team coach, Osward ‘Mourinho’ Mutapa junior says Sunday’s friendly game against Saudi Arabia was an eye-opener for Zambia ahead of the Africa Youth Championship qualifier against Mauritius.

Stoppila Sunzu scored Zambia’s goal after 65 minutes but the Saudis equalised five minutes later.

“The game against Saudi Arabia was very important because at least we managed to look at 14 players and we know which players can play in the Africa Youth qualifiers,” Mutapa said. -Daily Mail

Togo preps suffer another setback
TOGO’s preparations for their 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier against Zambia on May 31 in Accra, Ghana suffered another hitch with the postponement of last Sunday’s international friendly match against Libya.

This follows Frenchman Henri Stambouli’s departure on Thursday after he failed to agree terms with Togo Football Federation (FTF) over a long-term deal as head coach.

“The friendly was cancelled because all the convened players are not there, and even more Mr Stambouli returned to his home country,” Actualite said. -The Post
