In recent few weeks, Zambian players have been linked with moves abroad and over the weekend almost all Chipolopolo stars based abroad made it to the bench.
Zambiafootball.com contributors Travis Mills and Francis Alisheke takes a look at how the copperbullets stars performed.
France-Ligue 1
Ghana 2008 revelation, Felix Katongo was an unused substitute in Rennes’ 2-1injury time win over Monaco on Monday night. The Rennes’ number 25 has yet to make his Ligue 1 debut but he is close after being named on the bench for the second successive week.
Rennes are now placed fifth on the ligue 1 table, 23 points behind Lyon but just five points behind Marseille.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Jacob Mulenga is expected to lead Racing Strasbourg tomorrow its quest to avoid relegation.
Germany- Bundesliga 2
Moses Sichone – Despite carrying the flu for the past week, Sichone played the entire game for Kickers Offenbach as they fell at home 3-1 against former club, FC Koln. Sichone’s misplay with the ball in the 52nd minute led to the winning goal for the visitors. ‘Big Mo’ started his Germany career at FC Koln.
Finland
Dornwell Yobe (pictured) started his European adventure at forward for AC Oulu in a pre-season against RoPS. He played a solid match, but failed to breakthrough. Dornwell, who joined his younger brother Dominic at AC Oulu two weeks ago on a free six months loan move from Lusaka Dynamos had his debut spoilled by countryman Chileshe Chibwe’s brace for RoPS. Nchimunya Mweetwa, Zeddy Saileti and Chanda Mwaba featured for RoPS while Dominic missed through injury.

Denmark
Chris Katongo played as the lone striker up front for Brondby in their 1-0 loss to AAB, despite a couple opportunities he failed to find the back of the net. A sharp angle strike was in the 21st minute was calmly handled by the AaB goalkeeper, his best chance came in the 51st minute on an intercepted ball, but he struck it just off the mark. Chris also helped his team as he drew a yellow card in the 28th minute as a defender was grabbing his shirt.
Sweden-Chansa scores
The Allsvenskan(Swedish top flight) season opened up on a high note for Helsingborgs IF as they defeated GIF Sundsvall, 3-0. It took Kitwe’s favourite son Isaac Chansa only nine minutes to break the ice as he finished a beautiful play from the wing. Christoffer Anderson provided the cross and Chansa neatly headed the ball inside the post.
The story was vastly different for Ljungskile as they fell 1-0 at home to Hammarby. Edwin Phiri started the match on the right wing, and 25 minutes in was already on the referee’s book with a yellow card. Despite that being his only recorded contribution to the match, he was still voted as fourth best player of the game for Ljungskile on the teams website in an online poll. The next match is April 10th against fellow national team player Isaac Chansa and Helsingborgs IF.
Turkey
Forgotten hitman, Collins Mbesuma at last made the Bursaspor bench but did not feature. Bursaspor lost 2-0 away to Ankaragucu. Bursaspor dropped to 12th place.
Malasyia
Former national team and Lusaka Dynamos striker Philemon Chipeta failed to add to his 10 goals in 20 games for Perlis they went 2-0 down to Selangor in the Malasyian Super league. Another Zambian Kamuzati Kabwe played.
South Africa
PSL clubs were involved in the Nedbank cup thus some clubs have been eliminated. First Choice shot stopper Kennedy Mweene returned to the side and the former Zambia national high School striker coveted a penalty that led to Free State Stars thrashing a division 1 side 8-1.
Second choice goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje’s Amazulu beat Vasco Da Gama 5-0 to advance to the quarter finals of the Nedbank Cup. James Chamanga played the full game Moraka Swallows’ 3-1 loss to Santos. Compatriot Songwe Chalwe is still missing from the team sheets though he is fit.
And finally 2007 Caf Young player of the Year, Clifford Mulenga has sined for PSL side BidVest Wits on a two year deal while Emmanuel Mayuka is heading to Egyptian glamour side Zamalek.

Mbesuma at last!!! just when I thought he should come back to SA. Mbesuma is such an amazing talent I think it is so sad that his carrer should suffer cause he cant keep his weight down and basically not keep the profesionalism the career demands. Hopefully this is a start we have all being waiting for siince he left SA shores.

you are an inspiration to zambia soccer and a symbol of what it should be as a professional footballer. maintain your first team place and fly the zqambian flag high. felix will soon follow suit his beginning on the bench brings him closer to a call up.
