Yobe Joins his brother at a Finnish Club

Lusaka Dynamos midfielder Dornwell Yobe has joined his younger brother Dominic Yobe (pictured) in Finland. The Lusaka Dynamos defensive midfielder has agreed terms with Finnish first division side, AC Oulu.

Dornwell left for Finland last week. He featured in Lusaka Dynamos’ league opening match against Nkana on 15th March but he missed the 1-0 loss to Red Arrows last week on Friday.

The Queensmead stadium bred midfielder was primed to make his debut on European soil against famaliar faces in the RoPS fc line up in a pre-season friendly tomorrow but his international clearance has not been sooted. RoPs a top flight side has five Zambian players on their books. 39 year old former Nkana and Zambia striker Zeddy Saileti partners Nchimunya Mweetwa in attack. And the rest are Chanda Mwaba, Chileshe Chibwe and Stephen Kunda.

Dornwell’s young brother, Dominic is highly rated by Oulu management and it looks like he recomended his sibling. Dominic started his European adventure with Swedish side Ogryte before trekking to Finland.

In 2003, Dominic together with South African based Davies Nkausu attended trials at English Premier league giants Manchester United.

Elsewhere in Zambian football related news, exciting teen striker Emmanuel Mayuka will finally feature for his hometown club, Kabwe Warriors. Mayuka was on a seasonal loan to Green Buffloes but the hottest striker in the local league changed his mind later.

Mayuka missed Warriors first two league games as he was registered as a Buffaloes player at Football House. On Wednesday, Mayuka scored the first and created Zambia’s second and third in the under-23s 4-1 bashing of Mali.

The 17 year was a marvel to watch alongside emerging midfield magician William Njobvu at Nkoloma stadium. Mayuka and Njobvu are expected to lead Zambia under-23 against Swaziland on Sunday.

Turkish based striker Collins Mbesuma has been named in an 18 man squad in a mid table crash in the Turkish Super cell between Bursaspor and Ankaragucu. Mbesuma has not featured for Bursaspor since November last year. This is due to a knee injury and off late he has been out of favour.

In other related news, 34 year old defence kingpin Elijah Tana might pulling the blue and yellow jersey of Nchanga Rangers this season. Tana made his name at the Chingola based club and won the FAZ Premier league in 1998 with Rangers.

Earlier on this month, there were rumours that he might heading to Iran or joining his mentor at Power Dynamos, Fordson Kabole. Kabole groomed Tana and the likes of Moses Sichone and Andrew SInkala at ‘Brave’ Nchanga Rangers.

Tana has been clubless since August last year after being released by Sudanese giants El Merriekh. He has also has spells in Angola and United Arab Emirates.


And finally, Zambia under 23 left for Swaziland today for The preliminary round of the maiden edition of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) which kicks off this weekend across the continent with the first leg matches.

The backbone of the team are Ghana 2008 Afcon debutants, Emmanuel Mayuka, William Njovu and Hichani ‘Undertaker’ Himoonde. Goalkeeper Mike Poto is the only player over the age of 23.

CHAN, the latest addition to the tall list of the competitions organized by Confederation of African Football (CAF) is exclusively open to players playing in the national championships of their respective countries.

The participating countries are drawn into six zones based on their geographical location, with one team qualifying from each zone for the finals with the exception of Southern Zone – two teams.

The other zones are Northern, West (A), West (B), Central and Central-East Zones. The tournament will have 8 teams.

Cote d’Ivoire has qualified automatically as host of the first edition, scheduled for February 22 – March 8, 2009.
