10 man Zambia National team got a morale booster after recording a 2-1 victory over 2004 African Nations of Cup champions, Tunisia.
Angola based winger Felix Kotongo scored a brace in a space of two minutes to silence the Carthage Eagles home crowd while defender Joseph Musonda was given matching orders in the 78th minute Katongo got his first goal in the seventh minutes and two minutes later he scored his second. Tunisia scored through Chikhaoui in the 48th minute.
The result will boost Zambian morale ahead of the tournament in Ghana from January 20 to February 10 after an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Spanish regional side Andalucia in Jerez late last month.
It was the first warm-up game for Tunisia, whose French coach Roger Lemerre said this week that his team are capable of lifting the Nations Cup for the second time in three attempts after hosting and winning the AFCON in 2004.
“Tunisia is in line to achieve its best results at the African Nations Cup,” said Lemerre, who led France to the Euro 2000 title before being sacked following their first round exit in the 2002 World Cup finals.
“The squad are responding to the demands of the highest level and are determined to go as far as possible.” 2004 edition.
Egypt began their countdown on Saturday with a predictably comfortable 3-0 win over Nations Cup outsiders Namibia in the southern venue of Aswan through second-half goals from Amr Zaki (two) and captain Ahmed Hassan.
Both teams are preparing for Ghana 2008 and they will face each other on Tuesday in another friendly. Zambia will then face Morocco next on 12th January while Tunisia will be facing Iran.
Squad which played:
Kennedy Mweene, Clive Hachilensa, Billy Mwanza, Kennedy Nhketani, Joseph Musonda, Jacob Mulenga, Rainford Kalaba (William Njovu), Ian Bakala (Isaac Chansa), Felix Katongo, Dube Phiri, James Chamanga (Emmanuel Mayuka)
To some of you, it may as a surprise that Zambia beat Tunisia 2-1 in preps for AFCON. The truth is Zambian is a huge threat this time around and they did it all without Tana. Ask SA coach, he will tell you why ‘Z’ is a squad to look out for. Go Zambia Go!
Zambia is capacble of beating any team when they play without intimidation and this was one such case.
I am not sure that you got your facts right though. It seems it was Felix Katongo and not Chris who scored the brace. At least that is what BBC, Reuters, ESPN and DSTV say. But you could be right. Just confirm your source.
i think zambia might cause an upset at the AFCON.THIS WAS REALLY a suprise but after the bafana win and this win, we have got chance.
Chipolopolo iye!

Well-done chipolopolo for silencing Tunisia in the friendly. May the same spirit continue even at the actual tournament. Young Felix, continue with the same spirit.
