Wenger tips Ivory Coast for Title

January 3, 2008

Arsenal FC manager, Arsene Wenger has tipped Cote d’Ivoire to reach the final of the African Nations Cup billed for Ghana.
The Arsenal boss, wished his players Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue, both Ivorien to beat all comers in their group to reach the final on February 10.
“Cote d’Ivoire is a very strong side. So, I expect them to come back after February 10 with the trophy,” he said. “You want players to be happy and if they have a good African Cup then they will be. We can benefit from that, so let’s wish them well.”

The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire will play alongside Nigeria’

s Super Eagles, Mali’s Eagles and Squirrels of Benin Republic in Group B of the tournament.
The French tactician however, said that there will be no panic over the loss of players who leave for the African championship this month.

With Africa holding their major tournament during the European winter; one of the busiest times of the season, many managers are set to lose some vital players.
In the Premiership, Portsmouth are without doubt, the worst hit by the tournament, followed by Chelsea.
Arsenal will lose just two players, but one of them is the highly regarded Kolo Toure.

Emmanuel Eboue is the other, but Wenger has insisted there is no reason to panic.
“We’ve known about this since the start of the season and I’m confident we can come out of it in a strong position,” he said.

“I’m confident the players who come in are strong enough and have enough experience to make sure we don’t pay with points. Toure is a real rock, consistently motivated, consistently up for it. He is highly focused every day and in every game.”
