Chamanga demolishes Stars

December 10, 2007

James Chamanga scored five goals as Moroka Swallows beat Platinum Stars 6-2 in an Absa Premiership encounter in Germiston on Sunday afternoon.

The Swallows striker completed his hat-trick in just six minutes, with Sandile Ndlovu adding one more before the break, before the Zambian added two more in the second half, while Sipho Mchabe and Edward Williams netted for Stars.
Chamanga started his demolition job in the 20th minute with a simple tap in after Sandile Ndlovu failed to control a Japhet Zwane cross. The striker added his second four minutes later when he rounded Wayne Sandilands to slot the ball into an empty net after running onto a superb pass by Tsweu Mokoro and he completed his hat-trick in the 26th minute when he scored with a low shot into the far corner after receiving a pass by Ndlovu.
Swallows were 4-0 up in the 32nd minute when Ndlovu headed home after Bevan Fransman headed the ball back across the face of goal following a good cross by Zwane.
Stars had the ball in the back of the net in the 39th minute, but the goal was disallowed after Phumudzo Manenzhe was adjudged to have fouled Swallows’ keeper Greg Etafia.
However, the visitors made it 4-1 seconds before the break when Mchabe scored with a low shot from inside the area.
The score remained 4-1 at the break.
Stars pulled another goal back in the 51st minute when Williams scored with a low shot from outside the area.
This goal seemed to spur the visitors on as Swallows seemed to take their foot of the pedal, but Chamanga changed that in the final five minutes of the game.
First he drilled the ball into the bottom corner in the 86th minute, before he slotted the ball into an empty net after Sandilands could only parry a shot by Alton Meiring, to round off the round score.
Stars, remain on 11 points and are in danger of being overhauled by last placed Thanda Royal Zulu unless their form takes a drastic turn for the better.

Former Zambia international striker Songwe Chalwe, who is also at swallows did not make the substitutes bench. Both Chamanga and Chalwe have not been included in coach patrick Phiri’s 28 man provisional AFCON squad.
In another PSL match, Zambia first choice goalkeeper saved a John’Shoes’ Moshoeu’s spot kick to earn his club Free State Stars a goalless stalemate with Amazulu. His clubmate Chintu Kampamba played the full game while Dennis Lota did not feature for Amazulu. And BidVest Wits Zambian midfielder started the match but was substituted as he helped his club beat Black Leorpards 2-1 in another PSL match.
In the Gemany bunbesliga second division, Andrew Sinkala’s SC Paderborn stayed second from bottom as they could only manage a 1-1 stalemate with SV Wehen and recalled defender Moses Sichone’s Kickers Offenbach also managed a 2-2 draw against TSG Hoffenheim. Kickers are 14th placed.

Even if chamanga managed to score surprising pool of five against platnum star, patrick phiri should not make a mistake of calling him up to the squad that travels to Ghana in january. In my view, chamanga is not national team material.
