November 23, 2007

Bidvest Wits’ attacking midfielder Noah Chivuta says he is positive that he will make it into Zambia’s 22-man squad that is still to be selected for January’s African Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Chivuta tells Kick Off that he is more than satisfied with his performance in the last two games that he featured for Zambia. These were against Mozambique and South Africa in the Cosafa Cup tournament. He adds that, based on his showings in the two games, he is confident that he would be selected. “I will keep on working hard and if the selection of the finals team is based on the performance, then I am sure I will go to the finals.”The 24-year-old adds that he is also confident that the Students, who are currently in 9th place on the PSL log, will be in the top four when the League goes into recess in December.

Zambian coach Patrick Phiri has indicated that the 23-man squad for next year’s finals will comprise 14 foreign-based players and nine locals.Meanwhile, the Zambian national team’s first choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene says he is looking forward to joining the Chipolopolo camp on December 27 when the PSL goes into recess. The 23-year-old Free State Stars’ minder says he is not in a hurry to join another team despite interest from other PSL sides.
