Drogba’s Chelsea career in doubt as he reveals plans to play in Beijing Olympics
Didier Drogba has put his Chelsea career under fresh doubt after insisting he will lead the Ivory Coast in next summer’s Beijing Olympics.
The Blues marksman has been unsettled at Stamford Bridge since former manager Jose Mourinho parted company with the King’s Road club at the start of the season.
Reports from abroad quoting Drogba as declaring he would be happy to join one of Europe’s top clubs have already infuriated the Chelsea hierarchy.
And the Daily Mirror claims today that feathers have been further ruffled by Drogba’s announcement that he will be competing at the Olympics next summer.
The three-week tournament at the Beijing Games will rule him out of a chunk of preseason and the start of the Premier League campaign.
Chelsea are already unhappy they will be without their most potent attacker for up to a month at the turn of the year when he will lead his country in the African Nations Cup.
The 29-year-old will miss five league games, the start of the Champions League knockout phase and FA Cup and Carling Cup ties while at the tournament in Ghana.
Ivory Coast thrashed the young Chipolopolo 4-1 to seal their first olympics berth

The Ivorian striker has a duty to his country. It’s about time that African players stood up for themselves and put their nations as first priority. After all,he might lead his country all the way to victory in Beijing and therefore do Africa proud!!By the way,’BIG UP’to the brains and brawn behind ‘zambianfootball’,it’s about time that we got a chance to air out our views about the beautiful game…..
